Definitely thinking further north, I reckon Durham north may do well tonight and tomorrow
-
Hi all
really interesting we have 60% chance of heavy showers from 6. Just a few miles inland and four miles north, serge field is 90% and in the Amber warning. That bizarrely seems to match the greater number of showers showing north of the tees valley. If it’s right it’s impressive forecasting !
-
Convection seems in line with the warning being further north. Not as much activity in the south of the region

Do you usually get hit by an easterly with showers? I know you get your fair share from a Northerly, sticking out like that
No sure really not always lived in teesside

Later on it will be " How deep is your SNOW" !!!
The way it’s going I can see the Meto doing a version of ‘I started a joke ‘

Hi all
about 5 inches on the car and some rarely seen icicles hanging from traffic lights - very cool! Feels lovely in the sun.
what are people’s expectations for later and tonight? Forecast yesterday was also for showers turning heavier but it never happened. All snow was from the low system
-
It looks to me that the ‘main band’ may be the northern arm of the low. The rest seems to be building as we speak

I think that's a forecast not actual, this is the Meto radar.
Maybe there’s something behind that initial lot?

Just sitting here thinking. I will be up tonight til it starts, god knows why because I know exactly what it looks like and it's only a couple of weeks ago since the last lot, but I guess you all know, you all understand don't you? Come on, admit it, you'll all be doing it, if you can.
And of course you'll be up "for a pee" at 03.07, then, as if stirred by some magical invisible being, you'll be awake for the day half an hour earlier than usual ("oh, sorry darling, I set the clock wrong by mistake")
But you've seen it all before, like me. You've been hypnotised by a snow-filled lamp post beam, and watched for passing car headlights to see if it still snowing. You all been told " leave the bloody curtains alone, it's only snow".
And we all been told that we're just a big kid, and none of us can argue. None of us can deny any of the above, and none of us can promise not to do any of the above again.
Right, back to the radar, how sad!
All true. My wife thinks I’m obsessed

Wow 34 members viewing this thread ive seen the mod thread less busy in the summer, something must be brewing
Let’s hope so!

I had snow forecast from 1am so that may be accurate give or take. I’ve always thought that they looked quicker over the years but generally arrive as forecast

I was hoping to get an early night tonight............
Haha I hope it continues to beef up as it won’t give 4 hours as forecast. Come on!!

This morning forecast snow showers to get heavier during the afternoon and evening. They’ve gone completely with nothing forecast the rest of today - got the first day wrong!

I wonder if many local schools will now decide to close tomorrow and Wednesday on the strength of those met office amber warnings ? ...it would certainly put me back in my daughter's 'good book' after my recent comments that she will be most likely having a couple of snow days
Hi
no it’ll be morning checking-
whether staff can get in to maintain contact ratios
the site is safe
kitchen staff can offer the mandatory hot option
etc

One thing I'm unclear about is that I've always thought we needed a northerly element to any Easterly for it to really be good for our region (or, at least, most of the region). This event has no such element from what I can tell.
A straight easterly should be a long enough drag given the conditions, at least that’s what I’ve been reading on the model thread. 4 degrees here now, very odd
-
Getting a bad feeling about this event. Surprised that the temp is still 3 degrees here. Tonight’s snow seems to slip south of teesside and Wednesday’s showers look to be mainly expected further north . Fingers crossed but even summaries on Netweather forecasts have changed to light showers with all mention of moderate or heavy gone throughout the week
-
Wind is picking up now. Light dusting of polystyrene balls this morning which melted quickly. Temp was 1 on way in to work. Radar looks busy but producing nothing at the minute. I wonder what time the bigger showers will start to build? maybe late afternoon?

T Is it me or is the low a tad further north on the 18z than on the 12z at 30h?
Definitely, it’s back to centering over teesside - where it was two days ago
