Very interesting that the models have shown mainly dry air and very much marginal conditions for the coast. Nothing marginal about the 2 inches we’ve had from nowhere this morning 3 miles from the coast in teesside.
gives me confidence in two things - that anything that falls will likely be snow this week even here and that I won’t be expecting to know In advance of enough disturbances for precipitation

Hello, just an update. I wont be continuing my forum here, its more for techically advanced people than me an old analogue person who only uses farenheit still. So I dont really fit in. Just to say, I have seen quite a bit of snow in Wigan today, more than for several years. Its lovely to watch and blackbirds were sitting in the snow at 7am in the day awaiting their first food. After that I managed to feed 36 in total of robins some tits, and more than the usual sparrows.
I end my time here, with a longer range forecast I seen online today. The High pressure to the left of us for so long heading towards Scandinavia while low pressure remains in Europe. this leads to strengthening North Easterlies, which forcasters prompt may be here to stay. Further it will bring even colder air over the uk and of about 5th or 6th January will start feeding heavy snow showers that will get as far as the Manchester in the early days. Is this a possible "Beast from The East" scenario?I will come back to see any replys, but wont be posting again, my abilities to understand what's being discussed is way beyond me. Im a general analogue Michael Fish!!!.
happy new year to all, and hope a severe spell doesn't happen we dont want covid high and broken bones adding the NHS crisis......!!!!You shouldn’t pack in. I’ve been here since 2005 and only pop in every winter in the hope of snow. I understand a little but much is over my head. I just pick the posts that give me a sense of whether my chart reading is right

Depends where you live. Not in my manor it isn’t!
I’m guessing that your use of the term ‘manor’ indicates you live near London ?

in 15 years of lurking around this forum i'm a little bewildered by what i'm seeing at present. On the face of it some of the charts look spectacular, high pressure to the north and an obvious E/NE fetch. For us up here on the north east coast first glance would indicate a snow fest. Very rare we've been able to enjoy models like this and some charts seem extremely rare. Close inspection reveals that the cold isn't quite there at present though and this morning we have rain, even the amazing 06z shows milder sectors wrapped in the low that descends late on and conditions again look marginal. Could be climate change or just bad luck i guess - strange days

Fresh snow overnight but think it's starting to melt today.
Got a trip to Billingham later but not sure if I should go with the chance my car, instead of my daughter, ends up ice skating
Roads are fine in Billingham . Snow didn’t settle on roads this am

Had around 30cm over the last three days in the north east. Still a little envious of thy radar!

Wired I was expecting a few scattered showers today, it’s pretty much constant light snow plus the odd burst. I’d this in like this for the day? It’s not fit to be outside

Complete whiteout - awesome. Had a snow day so me and the wife took the kids for lunch at the pub. Came home at 3 and there’s already 2 inches on the car , amazing how much these showers can drop; we’ve only had five

I’m going for a kip with a 3am alarm to check the radar , if there’s nothing showing I’ll go back , if it’s two hours out I’ll be up at five - genius

I agree you're better off coming up the A19 and coming off the A1231 through Washington to the A1. Stick to the main routes and you'll have a better chance.
Agreed - if it’s work I’d set off early. If it’s a holiday I’d be booking into an airport hotel. They hardly ever close a runway , traffic is another matter

To me and I am no expert the showers seem to be dieing further in land you go then intensifying again.
Definitely dying as the make landfall then probably intensifying with a bit of height inland

I think Stockton and surrounds areas need there own thread now consisting of......
nothing here and envy of the north.
Yes there’s heavy stuff to the north and just to the south. There’s a chance it’s early and pot luck but worryingly it matches the warning maps

I’ve feeling we will do ok here in Teesside. Main frontal stuff will probably focus on the usual suspects of East Anglian, SE and midlands. Ours will be shower activity which over 5-6 days with little thaw could build up. I’m expecting 4-6 inches over the week with drifting and much more up in the Durham dales etc. that sound about right?
