Peninsular Italy and southern Balkans

Video shows wildfires lashing over edge of highway in Sicily WWW.NBCWASHINGTON.COM Fires are raging across the Italian island of Sicily, prompting evacuations and threatening drivers. Sicily seems to be having lots of issues with fires also during the intense heat they are suffering -

Funny old day for showers again. Left Folkestone around lunch and it was a bit drizzly, drove over to Canterbury and on the way it poured - the kind where you have to drive 20mph if that as you can’t see - but got to the A2 near Canterbury and it was bone dry! Saw a few images of funnel clouds off the coast of Kent too, one near Gravesend and another off Dungeness I think. Will try and find them to share. Edit: see they’re all on the storm thread, that waterspout off Dungeness was amazing!

I got 22.1c yesterday and the closest station I can find to you said 22c. But it did feel very warm, was plenty warm enough!

Just thought I’d pop in here given the woe about lack of heat in the main model thread. Seeing what’s happening on the continent, I can’t understand the desire for heat? If it comes, it’ll be brutal all the time mainland is seeing the temperatures that are occurring g at the moment. Last years 40c weather was brutal, I do not want a repeat of that any time soon! More than happy with 20c and sunny spells.

Well done! Where have you got a job? It’s so hard for under 18’s to get a job these days. My son had a trial as a kitchen assistant at a restaurant and they messed him about, finally got them to pay him for the 8 hours of trial he did. Now he’s got another trial with the Folkestone Harbour company tomorrow so fingers crossed for that!

Thank you for this post - just been looking at the Wunderground stations on the Canaries and it is awful there at the moment. On Gomera for example, multiple stations have recorded and increase in temp since mid-evening to around 40c but the DP is around 0c and the humidity is crazy low around 10%. Must be an extreme fire risk there right now?!

My in-laws went to a small town near Lindos, Rhodes and came back Thursday. They normally love the heat and will sit out in any sunshine but even they said it was too hot at times. Just looked on the weather station local to where they stayed and it was 37c yesterday and is already 30c at 8am so its going to be another hot day. Stay safe Athens Heat.

After expecting nothing last night, ended up with an impressive light show and some near overhead thunder -

Pouring here in Folkestone now, loads of lightning and thunder. Looks like it popped off just off the seafront and is on its way over to you -

It’s been 48 days here since we had rain. Expecting a hosepipe ban any day now (the surrounding area was notified of one starting next week). Hoping for a storm just to get some rain in if nothing else!
