  1. This is exciting stuff! I like the fact that this volcano is near the equator and it can make good work of blocking sunlight. Interesting extract from theweatherspace.com : TWS Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin questions what this might do for hurricane season. "We know volcanic eruptions can cause global weather pattern changes due to the ash in the stratosphere," said Martin. "But this volcano is located where tropical systems are born. Now by born I do not mean named, but the convection comes from Northwestern Africa and the ash clouds is heading into the Atlantic over the next week." There is no way to know for certain on the effects of an African Volcanic eruption but Alaska and Russian volcanoes have been known to tamper with the global temperature and patterns. http://www.theweatherspace.com/news/TWS-06_13_2011_dubbi.html They were talking about Dubbi volcano as they thought it was the one erupting. 2. Interesting extract from this website about the Chilean volcano eruption: Andrew Tupper, of the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin, told the ABC that the Chilean ash cloud and its westward drift was an “exceptional eventâ€. “It’s got a very strong satellite signal and it’s right up there with the big, big eruption clouds ... It will keep going. I would suspect it will do a loop of the globe.†“The last time we saw anything like it was 20 years ago with another eruption from South America but this is actually a larger ash cloud. It’s pretty major.†The eruption of Chile’s Puyehue volcano more than a week ago had disrupted flights out of Buenos Aires. However, the westward drift of the ash cloud appeared to have caught passengers and some airlines off-guard in the middle of the Queen’s birthday holiday weekend in Australia. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/1110fbee-94f0-11e0-a648-00144feab49a.html#axzz1HuaG46lX I can't find any info on whether this eruption is a VEI4. 3. This sounds interesting! I wonder if we are having another VEI4 eruption about to happen. Karyo
  4. A weak La Nina would be nice this time! Karyo
  5. It's an impressive eruption! It's a shame it is happening during the southern hemisphere winter as the impact of blocking the sunlight would be greater in the summer. Karyo
  6. According to this article the eruption continues and there is a slight increase in its seismic activity! The authorities are evacuating the remaining residents from the exclusion zone against their will! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-13735661?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Karyo
  7. Many flights are cancelled today in Argentina and Chile but no reports about the current state of the eruption. http://bfbs.com/news/falkland-islands/volcanic-ash-cloud-disrupts-falklands-airbridge-48482.html Karyo
  8. I wonder what VEI number would it have? The biggest eruption from this volcano was a VEI4 but most are smaller. Karyo
  9. It's showing part of the plume now! Impressive! According to Wikipedia the largest eruption of this volcano in recent history is a VEI4 in 1960. The rest are 2's and 3's. Karyo
  10. Thank you for the update. Are there any webcams that show the eruption? Karyo
  11. The boredom returns! Oh well, I just hope Katla will follow soon... Karyo
  12. That's sad news for me! I was hoping for some more excitement during the boring summer months! lol Karyo
  13. Thanks for the link! Those photos are amazing! You can see the plume forming mamatus formations similar with a cb cloud! Karyo
  14. Thank you! :-) So it has gone down! Yesterday, it was reaching 20k! Karyo
  15. The sky looks rather clear there! Are there any webcams that show the plume? Karyo
  16. It looks amazing! I'd rathen go in the winter when there is snow around and I can still swim in the warm water!
  17. I like it when when volcanic eruptions in northern latitudes are happening in late spring and early summer as they block some sunlight. Also more hours of daylight means more chances to observe the plume. Does anybody know how long the eruptions of this volcano normally last? Karyo
  18. This is really impressive! I wish we could see the top of the plume! Hopefully, we'll be able to see lightning there soon! :-) Karyo
  19. Well, today is my kind of day! Blue skies allowing me to appreciate the developing cbs! The shower in northeast of Wales should pass to the west of me butI am eyeing the the other showers in central and south Wales as they are heading north/northeast! Karyo
  20. That's good! Some showers are now breaking out in parts of east Wales and west of Stoke-on-Trent! I can't see any convection from my balcony though... Karyo
  21. I like your optimism! :-) Did you get any thunder yesterday? I had a brief thundery shower around 7:30pm and then rain. Karyo
  22. Sunny spells are developing in Manchester after earlier rain. There is no convection at all at present and the radar doesn't show any showers either. Also, the satellite shows a lot of high based cloud moving up from France which should limit our chances for home grown storms. Karyo
