  1. All the showery activity is to the northwest of me and the flow is taking it further away! So frustrating! :-( Karyo
  2. I think you are right! It's just the way that the report is written which is a bit misleading. Nevertheless, the volcano is constantly smoking http://www.sat24.com/en/et?ir=true Karyo
  3. Thanks for the update.I find that quite surprising, as apart from the first day or two, the eruption didn't seem to be that major. I wonder if this is going to have any climatological consequences, especially as the eruption is continuing. Karyo
  4. Nebro is still smoking but it's a low level plume: http://www.sat24.com/en/et?ir=true According to this BBC report http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13847054 many people in Ethiopia are sick from the gasses and dust. The prevailing wind is from the east which brings the volcanic dust from Erithrea. Karyo
  5. Not sure why he mentions a few days ago. He is saying that this swarm doesn't necessarily suggest magma movements. Karyo
  6. The update on Jon Frimann blog is a bit underwhelming if yesterday's events got you a bit excited: http://www.jonfr.com/volcano/ Karyo
  7. I'll check his blog later. I suppose very little is known about volcanoes that haven't erupted in hundreeds or thousands of years. Uncharted territory comes to mind. Karyo
  8. Thanks Bobbydog, so we potentially have the awakening of another prehistoric volcano! Very interesting! Karyo
  9. Do we know anything about the past eruptions of this volcano?
  10. Yes John, I'd say the Nabro plume looks similar to Thursday's at the moment. Karyo
  11. Sat 24 shows a new plume over Nabro! http://www.sat24.com/en/et?ir=true Karyo
  12. Some latest info on Nabro (Erithrea) http://www.irishweatheronline.com/news/earthquakesvolcanos/satellite-image-shows-nabro-volcano-eruption-is-ongoing/20515.html She is still awake with a low intensity eruption. Karyo
  13. Interesting article about the possible climatic effects of the recent volcanoes (especially the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle). This volcano seems to have calmed down now and no plume from Nabro either despite yesterday's earthquake. Karyo
  14. Is it confirmed that Nabro was/is a VEI4 eruption? It had a notable eruption on Sunday and a secondary yesterday but I didn't think it would be classed as VEI4. The Chile volcano on the other hand has been erupting almost constantly since June 4th, although it seems to have quieten down since yesterday. Karyo
  15. This is also mentioned in the Irish weatheronline http://www.irishweatheronline.com/news/earthquakesvolcanos/nabro-volcano-erupts-again-friday-following-moderate-quake/20220.html which also states that the volcano has now erupted again! However, there is still no sign of a plume on the satellite which I find puzzling... Karyo
  16. We have the first picture of the volcano! http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/reports?ARCHIV=0&LANG=en&MENU=207&FILE=your.txt&DAY=20110617 It's from yesterday's eruption and they say the plume mainly consisted of water vapour and SO2. No plume can be seen today from the satellite. Karyo
  17. Thanks John. There is no plume today on the satellite image http://www.sat24.com/en/et?ir=true Karyo
  18. That's a good sign for the activity to continue. What magnitude? I can't find it on the list. Karyo
  19. Yes, me too! I think once again we have to face the fact that this area is sparsely populated, poor and not monitored much. I mean, it's been days since the first eruption and there is not a single picture on the web! Karyo
  20. Indeed John! The link says that this eruption was preceded by two small earthquakes. It's looking good for continued activity I think. Karyo
  21. I am glad Nabro livened up again. I was starting to lose hope! Karyo
  22. Thanks John, the satellite now shows the darkness appearing from the southeast and the plume as well as the thunderstorms have a shadows. It looks nice! :-) Karyo
  23. hi guys, it seems that the info is scarce when a volcano is not near a highly populated area and there is total lack of webcams. I wonder if there are any reports on recent seismicity on this area. Karyo
  24. The satellite shows a weak plume (narrow and faint line) from the Nabro volcano moving westwards. It's a bit more evident that yesterday or this morning but nothing major. http://www.sat24.com/en/et?ir=false Karyo
  25. I am a bit disappointed with Nabro! I was hoping for a lot more action from it but it seems to have eased significantly... Karyo
