  1. Still nothing up here in the NE, but the Czech Republic had a good show last night.
  2. Ive been following this for a few days now and the GFS still showing CAPE values around 600-800J/Kg and Li -4. These storms have the potential to unleash large amounts of rain as they'll be slow moving in a slack southerly wind.
  3. Thats exactly where we went. We did go further up towards the mast but I felt we were a little to exposed to some of the dangerous lightning around so decided to come down.
  4. Got as far as Stanley (near Durham) glad we went as wegot to see some Cg's and a turbulent sky. Had to cut the 'chase' short as the car developed a turbo problem and had to limp back. Here on the coast the storm diminished very suddenly as the 'cruel' North sea easterly killed it off.!! Approaching the storm. Closer..!
  5. My brothers just arrived in his TT, away out to get on that squall. With structure as amazing as that which is about to hit York, this is certainly not one to miss. Be back with plenty of photos..
  6. Thats one intense squall line developed.. ©Netweather V6 radar
  7. Seen it all last Wednesday, if it wakes me then I'll watch it.. Nah just kidding love storms, Ive set my alarm for 4:00am..!!
  8. Small storm approaching Tyne and Wear from the warm front..who'd have guessed..!! Sporadic thunder and lightning.
  9. This is pretty much the situation now, ..Earlier fax chart for 00z aint that far off the mark. 00z fax chart. Present situation
  10. It was only 16℃ on the coast with an onshore breeze here when the storms arrived on Wednesday with very little feeling of humidity but the storms arrived and jeez what a display. So don't be downhearted at the moment because when/if the cap is broken the development will be explosive..Keep watching satellite images and the radar.
  11. Amazing amount of hail fog. Could be a scene from the midwest in the US..!
  12. With no easterly influence here on the coast today its almost 10℃ warmer, so as the rest of the country gets cooler ours temps increase. Its a sticky 25℃ outside and dew points at 16.5℃. Compared with yesterday it feels like a storm could pop up but without certain parameters present today they may struggle.
  13. As most people try to catch wonderful lightning shots I'm more interested in structure and yesterdays cells didn't disappoint especially the 2nd storm. The late storm around midnight showed its marvellous structure in the 'strobe' lightning which was a sight to behold. Here's a couple of photo's of the rear of the 2nd storm (possible supercell) as it slid just to the west of me.
  14. Have to admit its been a long time since ive witnessed 'strobe' lightning like what we've experienced this evening/night. Although the core of these storms weren't directly overhead the lightning certainly was as it streaked across the sky. Fantastic anvil crawlers and shotgun thunder. Still booming away as I type.
  15. Heat...It hasnt reached 20℃ here at all today on the NE coast but still we got a decent storm.. expect the unexpected..!!
  16. Although the storm that passed through these parts a couple of hours ago had an impressive lightning count it really didn't look that menacing here. Being right on the eastern edge of the storm I managed to take a few pictures.
  17. Most Sferics from that storm thats just pushed through our region were pretty much elevated, plenty of lightning reaching the ground though. Thunder still crashing overhead but looks like Newcastle city centre was hit hardest, not the best storm ive ever seen but not bad here, sure people in Newcastle would probably disagree with me as the thunder boomed constantly.
  18. The North sea is keeping temps pegged way back here along the NE coast, pretty much little difference between temps on the surface and 5000ft..!!
  19. Went over to the Cheviots, got a suntan..!! Hot at 26℃ at our destination in Northumberland. There was cloud development but only around mid levels these being mostly cumulus castellanus and small groups of cumulus congestus no surface based convection and very hazy. Could be a day to remember tomorrow with a level2 issued by ESTOFEX, but as they say its all depended on certain factors coming into play capping and nothing to help upward motion being greatest concern for storm initiation but if temperatures at the surface get up into the mid to upper 20's then there's a chance it will go bang especially as upper temps cool slightly during the late evening into the night. Its not a dead cert for sure but whilst the potential exists then i'm happy to watch this unfold.
  20. Temperature bouncing around like a rubber ball here on the coast. Around 08:30 it was around 18℃ then an onshore breeze developed and knocked the temp to 16℃. The wind direction has veered to the south now and the temp is currently 20.2℃. Ganna be a wa'am un the day, like..!!
  21. Even the 'supercellular' storm on the 28/06/12 that hit the North east was a let down for us on the coast. Newcastle City which is only 10 miles away from South Shields was hit pretty hard. There was no indication that this storm would die as quickly as it did, you can imagine my disappointment when a rare powerful storm is heading in your direction only to die in an instant. At least I got some great shots of a very turbulent sky.
  22. Even up here on the NE coast we are now at 17.2℃.. and the NE is favoured for storms today. I'm off to Northumberland and because of the potential we're not travelling the usual route (up the A1) but heading west then North and get into the predicted storm area.
