  1. Looking like another very mild month on the cards. Hard to see how the CET is going to be dented that much with such an unsettled outlook. The trend for the month has been for the odd cooler day offset by a series of mild ones- looks like that's going to continue.
  2. Average of 5.1C here across the month which may explain why it felt like a mild month to me. Seems like it was cooler further south which brought the average down.
  3. It is about perception, but it really hasn't been cold by day here. Only 2 days failed to reach 5C in the whole month- certainly a push to call that chilly. But yes it hasn't been as mild in the figures as it has felt, with so many bright, windless afternoons.
  4. It certainly felt like a mild month here- and most people I've spoken to have remarked on how mild the month felt to them. Clear skies meant cold nights at times but not excessively so. By day it has been mild here with hardly any days that would be classed as 'cold'.
  5. Not sure about elsewhere but in these parts it's the relatively cold nights that have kept this month close to average. A lot of days have been above average consistently, with temps in the 8-10C range quite common after frosty starts. Apart from the last few days that have bucked the trend, most of the month has been noticeably windless around these parts.
  6. Last January was awful- so much cold, wet weather. Puzzling how anyone could enjoy it. If we're going to have snow, at least make it proper snow as opposed to a sleety mess which is how I remember last Jan. January 2012 stands out as one for me.
  7. It might balance out some of the ridiculous downward adjustments we've had recently. November was a total joke and very suspect indeed. The statistics have been on the lower side of reality if anything in past few months,
  8. Yes the odds are always against many cold days with the high in the position it's been in for most of the month. Some seem to believe the myth that any high pressure in January = cold and the potential for ice days. I find it's always very unlikely for most of us in this sort of setup. You're relying on lingering fog to suppress maxima. That's another thing that has been notable about this month- very little fog to speak of, even first thing in the morning.
  9. Looking like an above average finish to me with a bit more cloud cover meaning less cold nights from now on. Probably a drop today and then more or less holding steady until the end of the month. Certainly one of the most benign Januaries I can remember ever. Also one of the most windless after the first couple of days. For a sunny month it's also been unusually mild. Yes there have been a few frosts, but no real hard frosts here and it has generally warmed up to the 7-9C range by the afternoon.
  10. Not discounted but unlikely- they are certainly very rare in these parts, even in ideal setups. Probably relying on fog lingering for that to happen. We haven't had one here in the last two of winters, despite some rather cold setups.
  11. While the all time max didn't go, the 1st was the warmest January day on record by some margin in the CET zone. Extraordinary 24 hour period and record-breaking in a big way.
  12. Bala recorded 16.5C overnight according the Met Office, smashing the New Year's Eve record again.
  13. You could be well placed for a record max today, some very warm air hanging on there until the afternoon.
  14. Looks like Rhyl reported a temperature of 15.7C at 7 am this morning- absolutely incredible
  15. It's been memorable for a number of unseasonably warm days for me. Wednesday 15th will live long in the memory for me. A maximum of 13.2C with clear blue skies and very little wind- I can't recall a day like that during winter outside of February before. Normally you don't get the sunshine with the mild temps in December, but we also recorded 5.3 hours of sunshine. Then this late spell has been mighty impressive too. It hasn't been all dull around these parts by any means. More sunshine this afternoon to go with temps close to 15C. Makes a mockery of the idea that we need colder air to get sunshine. Our sunniest day this month had a max of 13.2C and the coldest day (the 19th) recorded no sunshine at all.
  16. Has anyone got the official figure for Humberside? It's being reported as 16C but not sure if that's a rounded 16C or not. Sounds like there's a good chance it's beaten the Great Yarmouth figure.
  17. I'm enjoying it, quite a novelty to be staying in the teens day and night- nice to barely need a jacket as well! Last night would have been a fairly warm night in summer here, let alone late December!
  18. And to think some coldies jumped down my throat when I suggested date records could go...
  19. It hasn't been completely dull by any means- there have been some bright spells. Wednesday in particular was a bright, dry afternoon in these parts and remarkably mild feeling at 13/14C, with very little wind for a time.
  20. Thursday is looking like the day when many of us could record some of our highest ever December temps. Rare to get anything above 14C in these parts in December, but looks highly likely on Wednesday and Thursday.
  21. Still some record breaking warm temperatures potentially on for this coming week- no matter how much people try to play it down in here! Certainly some local and date records could be broken for maxima, even if the all time record for December probably won't go. Could be a very mild start indeed to 2022 in the south.
  22. I can't see this downgrade at all- looks very mild indeed to me next week
