  1. For sure, our friends in Derry and thereabouts are going to have interesting weather tonight.
  2. Not surprised to hear the news from Derry - it's freezing in Belfast, temp has dropped fast.
  3. Now that's a nice chart to wake up to on a Sunday morning.
  4. Aha, another Belfaster. There are a cluster of us around Castlereagh if you're in that area. Too much information!
  5. Speaking as someone who has an extreme reaction to wasps, be cause's post is downright scary. I thought I was safe once October had come and gone and that windows could be opened without screens over them. I shall dig out from the garage, where it was put away for the winter, a wonderful spray bought in France. It is such a powerful wasp killer that they veer away when it's put out on the garden table with the lid off, without actually being used - seen this time and time again. Heaven only knows what's in it. Is anyone interested in the upcoming Chinese moon landing? If so, try this link: www.cctv.cn then go to English and then to Space. There's some marvellous video footage. Batten down the hatches for the weekend.
  6. A windy night on the cards but it should be ok tomorrow.
  7. Couldn't believe my eyes - saw a shrub in flower this morning. It looked as dead as a doornail a week ago.
  8. I seem to remember that in our competition to guess the first snowfall I picked Dec 8. I might not have got this quite right - Next competition: guess the place in Ireland with the highest temp during the next two weeks. Place and date required.
  9. I'll second that about the cold in Belfast - absolutely wicked in the wind.
  10. He was chasing my dustbin!Great photos, bobbarley.
  11. FYI - this is a useful website: http://www.windfinder.com/report/belfast_harbour, the official wind, wave and weather report site for Belfast Harbour.
  12. I spoke too soon. I've been out in the street chasing our dustbin up the road. The winds are so strong I had trouble closing the front door when I came in. We have strange objects in the garden, who owned them originally I don't know.
  13. Yes, the cold's here. Can't report any temps as the magpies made off with my sensor again but skies clearing dramatically and wind dropping. The waves must be quite a sight in North Antrim.
  14. Just had a couple of considerable gusts. It's recycling bins day and the street is covered in red and black bins and litter. OH's motorbike has just been blown over. Be careful everyone, this is actually quite nasty though should be through the worst of it soon.
  15. A lively autumn storm, great fun. xcweather report gusts of 58mph out at Aldergrove.
  16. It's a gorgeous day. "Weather" doesn't just mean cold and snowy weather, it's all interesting and enjoyable - well, to be honest, some is more enjoyable than others but a day like today is near the top of the list.
  17. We might see some sleet on Friday. If we're lucky.
  18. A stallholder at Belfast Christmas market is selling some really good artificial snow. You add water to some powder and hey presto, realistic looking snow! Just thought I'd share this in case anyone gets desperate…..
  19. It was almost worth losing the cold spell to hear Smithy's take on things in Post 74 above.
  20. Doesn't look good but there's still volatility in the situation. Not yet clear cut.
  21. We're always civil but we sometimes define on topic more broadly than in the other threads.
  22. Brrrrr. Cold sharp showers here in Belfast. Feels very wintery and totally different from the last few days.
  23. Don't despair, there are many more runs to come. That's one possible scenario which may or may not be the correct one. As to Ronan's idea of some tekkie explanations, I think this would be great if someone could do it. Where's Su Campu? I start to get to grips with something then forget it and am sure of nothing but would love to learn more.
  24. I'm actually happier with the slow evolution of this prospective cold spell than the more dramatic events which are sometimes forecast .. . . which have a nasty habit of dissipating at the last moment. Some way to go yet but we're gradually creeping towards it.
