  1. Wise words Be Cause. For those with eyes to see there's plenty going on. Our garden is alive with bird life pecking away at red berries on bushes I tried and failed to uproot during the summer. They get the berries. I got strained ligaments! There are squirrels stocking up for the winter and there's reputed to be a sparrow hawk in the neighbourhood. I can enjoy all this because I know that there will at some stage during the winter be a cold spell. I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that it won't be like 2012 but it will be cold and could well be snowy, so I'll enjoy it when it comes and meanwhile look for the positives in this mild grey murk. For excitement and amusement there are always the Model threads.
  2. Agreed. And a cold and possibly snowy blast this early in the winter is a bonus.
  3. Woke up to a light covering on the ground and looking out over Belfast to the hills to the west, a much more substantial covering on the tops. It's probably all single figure cms but it's nice to see.
  4. Beautiful clear skies here over Belfast. No rain, sleet, snow or anything else falling out of the sky.
  5. Can't give you a temp reading but it feels arctic here in Belfast.
  6. Just woken up to a white world and a beautiful blue sky. It's actually nice to see frost again.
  7. Wasps are often drowsy at this time of year and settle on surfaces rather than flying around, so be careful when putting your hands down or what you step on with bare feet. I've seen some around as well.
  8. Nice thunderstorm out in Holywood at about 3.30pm plus some very dark looking clouds over Belfast at the moment.
  9. Hello everyone. Just back from a long trip to Spain, Portugal and France. I took my eye off the ball on this one, didn't check the weather here and discounted stories from back home of heatwave so landed yesterday expecting grey skies and rain. Oh boy did I get this one wrong, lol.
  10. hello everyone, and greetings from Spain (again). It's a balmy 24C here but a few days ago the weather in Spain was memorable - it snowed across the country from the Atlantic to the Med, with the exception of the extreme south. That is where we now are, having fled from a cold and rainsoaked Barcelona, pushing through driving snow between Zaragoza and Madrid, which you would hardly expect at this time of the year. Locals are saying it's the worst spring for 60 years.
  11. There's more snow still on the streets of Belfast than there is on those mountains - Stacks of snow 4 -5ft high along the pavements where the snow's been cleared from the roads (by the residents, not the council). Snow in the gardens. Snow on the roofs. Residents in this area still walking down roads as the pavements are too dangerous. I have to say, this is in the outer suburbs - the centre is mostly clear. Beautiful video, though, and a welcome reminder that spring is on its way.
  12. Great news that Dublin is getting some snow after patiently listening to us wittier away about our snowfall for the last week. A very light new covering overnight here but nothing to write home about.
  13. Snow shower over Belfast - more than just flurries.
  14. We've had a few large lazy flakes but nothing settling but a quick look at raintoday suggests things may be about to change!
  15. I have to say, it was almost competitive neighbourliness here - all the fit healthy young(ish) men were out with shovels clearing a path down the pavements and roads and digging out the drives of anyone unable to do so themselves - all very impressive. Everyone has watched out for those in need. If people hadn't taken this action the road would still be impassable. As far as I'm aware, no-one organised this, people just came out and did it off their own bat.
  16. Amazing scenes here, the pix of piles of snow already posted say it all. 12ft drifts reported up near Divis area of Belfast. Some neighbourly co-operation yesterday means our road is passable today, albeit with care. There are 5 or 6 ft piles of snow along each pavement and even now, snow on the road itself. And, of course, it's still snowing, albeit very lightly. Which leads to the interesting question of whether/where it'll snow later in the week. I hope it's now the south's turn to have some fun.
  17. Just started snowing here, though very lightly. Nice to hear all of Bangor is getting some settling snow.
  18. Beautiful pics, Ronan, well worth the effort you went to in getting them. Here we go again, according to the radar.
  19. This one should give an idea of how snowy it is.
  20. Let's see if this works. There should be a photo attached to this post.....
  21. Good morning, every one. It's still snowing! Unbelievable amounts of lying snow - photos later.
  22. Lights still flickering. We've finished the Jamieson and are on to blended we were given as an xmas present. About a foot of snow as far as I can see - may be more but no way am I going outside tonight to measure it. And it's still falling!!!
