  1. Temps that low, but where? No good to us if they're in East Anglia or the south east. Sorry - responding to post giving RJS forecast but forgot to link to the quote.
  2. For us tonight's storm turned out to be a bit of a non-event,windy but nothing special. Disappointing. There's still snow at Four Winds, ex-snowmen and piles of snow from where people industriously cleare their drives.
  3. Kicking off in belfast now. Heavy squalls and high winds.
  4. Nice to hear of snow in Derry and thereabouts. Here, it's grey, gusty and showery. The real fun comes tomorrow......
  5. There's been little or no mention of the lows heading our way this coming week except in relation to wheher they do (or do not) have bearing on a future cold spell, yet-they look nasty, the GFS in particular looking quite dramatic. We're in the firing line.
  6. It was fun in the run-up to the snow event and while the snow was fresh, but then it iced over and became dangerous. The rain is welcome. However, despite the downpour there is still a considerable amount of lying snow. Next week could be interesting for different reasons.
  7. Indeed, ppn on its way, but I would have thought it unlikely it would snow near the coast. However, the parts of Belfast with elevation might be hit again. I've been sitting here trying to make sense of skew-t/w and e diagrams so this is perhaps a timely opportunity to post one and comment. Never ever stuck my neck out before like this so be kind to me, lol. The comment is very brief: are the temps at the higher levels too high for snow? Temps above zero there. Feedback appreciated. Oh dear. No diagram! It showed temps just above zero between 1000-850.
  8. Er, Watcher, the last cold spell hasn't finished yet. It's snowing again in Four Winds. Very grey skies.
  9. Snowy _ in answer to yr query. Hopefully, one of the more knowledgeable members will pop online and be able to help you more directly _ I'm crawling off to bed having had almost no sleep last night _ but till then, look in the learning zone. John Holmes ha a good guide on what to look for if it might snow. dew points you can find on sites like www.xcweather.co.uk. Come back with questions yr sure to want answering_the more you learn the more questions you have.
  10. nice one, snowy. shows it like it was and still is tonight, the only difference being it's not snowing, at least yet. Been out allday so not really caught up but I can see some showers heading onto the east coast.
  11. Well, I can't hear any traffic moving. Don't know what overnight temp was (sensor disappeared from garden) though now circa 1C according to xc's reading for Aldergrove . Cloud overhead and radar shows ppn on its way. More snow? Looks as if the main body of it is going to the north of Belfast this time.
  12. Disaster! The local pub has closed for the night because of the weather. We went out for a walk in the snow and a dram and it's shut. On the way down the hill met many disappointed people out on the same mission. Amazing sights outside, and its still snowing.
  13. FYI for people in Belfast - www.translink.co.uk - list of transport cancellations. Twitter feed providing additional information.
  14. Hugely impressive snowfall out there, much more so than Friday. Needless to say, there's traffic chaos. Where's this going to end, looking at the radar, as it keeps coming. For sure, the Skywatchers aren't going out tonight, though not from choice. The lying snow readings from Casement make painful reading in contrast. There does seem to be some activity heading towards Dublin. Perhaps something tonight if temps/dp fall?
  15. Just back from town where it's raining. Even at Forestside it looked like game over but walking up the hill to Four Winds, the ppn changed from rain to sleet to snow as I climbed. In fact, the snowfall has intensified in the last few minutes and is now moderate, with fairly large flakes. Getting home from the city centre is going to be a nightmare for those who live in the outskirts or the outlying towns and villages as they may not be aware what the situation is out here in the sticks.
  16. Just walked down the hill. Persistent lying snow falling at the top,, not lying at the bottom. So this is fairly marginal and elevation important.
  17. The ppn could well reach you. whether it falls as snow or not depends on local temps etc but hang on for a short while and then look up at the sky!
  18. Slow and steady here but settling. Having looked at the radar I'd advise anyone working in town to get home sooner rather than later if they can. The roads may be clear in the centre but it's looking like a rerun of Friday out in the suburbs. The gentle hum of traffic we can normally hear in the background is already conspicuous by its absence.
  19. the main band, no by the looks of it, but showers are streaming off it and heading down the east coast towards you.
  20. oh boy! Just checked the radar. Heads down everyone, we're about to be snowed in.
  21. Snowing here in Four Winds but not nearly as heavily as in Carryduff, by all accounts. Will MS be walking home for the second time in a week? Gingercat, I sympathise. We're up a steep hill which was impassable the other day - got home just in time but spent anxious hours at the window watching cars slide backwards down the hill towards our car parked outside -
  22. Snowing here again at the moment. We were going to go up to Belfast Castle this afternoon but something tells me this isn't a bright idea, esp after hearing Watsy's experiences.
