  1. Well, that was a nice surprise. Looking out the window I can see the car covered once again in white. It also looks from the radar as if Larne might have had a few flakes but no report from there that I know of.
  2. Tks, Watcher, for the explanation. I didn't understand it even more than I thought I didn't understand it but I do now. It's snowing very lightly here and settling. Just checked the radar and seen what's coming our way. It's VERY good news re the south if JS is right.
  3. Just maybe for Dublin area. Fingers crossed for you all. It's still very snowy here in the suburbs though cars can now with care negotiate this side street, which was not possible yesterday. Su Campu, you wrote earlier "With T850 cooling to -7 °C or lower later today streamer activity should increase over the Irish Sea, but it will be suppressed by divergent flow in the low-mid levels" At first sight this seems obvious but then I realised I didn't truly understand. Divergent flow from where and to where? How can you tell? Which chart/diagram gives this info? Sorry to keep asking (dumb) questions but trying to learn....
  4. Now that's what I call a streamer heading towards Belfast - you can clearly see it on the radar. Conditions atrocious outside. Nothing moving, as far as I can see. Lights still flickering.
  5. Traffic chaos in Castlereagh. For anyone in the area thinking of driving up the Saintfield Road (that's probably you, MS) - don't. It's gridlocked. Lights flickering so candles are to hand. And still it falls . . . . with a fair bit to come by the look of the radar. Great news that Dublin area is getting snow.
  6. Snow lying readily at Four Winds and along Ormeau Road in Belfast so I assume it's the same in other areas. Coming down like the clappers now.
  7. Can confirm wet snow central Belfast. Not lying yet. tks su campo for the explanation. very clear and helpful.
  8. Last night Su Campo posted a very useful chart which I think was called a theta-W. I've scoured meteociel for it but can't find it (not a morning person, lol). Can anyone advise? Also, how the heck do you read these properly? Any info appreciated. pm me if The Watcher thinks it will clutter up the thread but there may be others who'd like to know more about this as well. Su Campo, if you're around, perhaps you could help here????
  9. Sleeting in Four Winds, which for those who don't know Belfast is 3 miles down the road towards the city from Carryduff, but lacks its elevation.
  10. Sleeting here in Belfast (Four Winds - Castlereagh). Very snowy sleet too, I might add.
  11. Good morning. Good to hear it's sleeting in nearby Carryduff and snowing in Dundrum. Temps and DP still look too high to me but at least they didn't rise any further overnight. The front was always going to rotate though it looks as if the bulk is in England/Wales and what's left here is thin and fragmented. Still, there's time for it to pep up if it;s coming to us from the SE over water.
  12. From xcweather - temp/dp at Aldergrove 4/ at 12.30am. Too high at the moment. If these start to drop we may be looking at something interesting.
  13. there is a concern for lowlying coastal areas but so much will be down to local conditions.
  14. We.re still stuck into a bottle of wine. OH thinks this is a joke and isn't going to happen. Will enjoy seeing him dig the car out tomorrow.
