  1. This must be colder than the first week of 1997 at 5.2c below average.!!!! http://www.climate-uk.com/index.html About 3c lower to 1997 for today for here a catch up.
  2. 1 out of 2 ain`t bad considering how much the temp went up in the night with cloud and a west wind at 2.6c. Then cloud cleared at dawn, very very close to another air frost at 0.1c widespread ground frost, and still some frost left now in the shade at 3.6c clear and sunny. The landscape is now green as snow has thawed quicker on the grass still a little left, but the frozen yard is still white over with very little thawing and it`s out of the wind like a sheltered hollow.
  3. Average mean here 1st to 7th is -4.5c. I actually make it 12c colder than the first week of January 1997.
  4. Very different to the last 2 winters thats for sure. I was expecting a 1999/00 type winter with la nina it`s not going by that far from it although there was quite abit more snowfall during december 1999 to this past one as there was cold zonality, but as you say this is another dry one yet like 2005/06. December 2005 gave less snowfall to this one, november 2005 was much better/colder though. This is a much longer colder spell with severe frosts to 3 years ago like 1996/97 but even one or 2 colder nights and days. But that gave alot more snowfall to this. Only snowfall during January 2006 was from the 5th to 9th when it thawed, there was slightly more snow to this one, but this looks like lasting a few days longer with some snow lying about I would say frosts permiting .
  5. Upper air are even higher than that now at -4, <_< -10 at sennybridge, this was a late afternoon, like february 1991 for plumetting temps although didn`t reach the dizzy lows of that here. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rmgfs092.gif -3.5c here at total cloud now.
  6. December 2001 Cet was 3.6c So looks like 3.5c, the coldest for 12 years. We are really on a cooling trend this year. :o
  7. Tomorrows maxes look very low,may be nearer the mark for here and not low ground. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn3017.png
  8. -1.7c here now and cloudy did drop to -2.7c an hour ago when clear. Cold NE wind all day still quite brisk. Max was 0.4c coldest january day with snowcover for quite a few years.
  9. Cloud come back here sun is still yet out but will be going in, but temps have lifted, thats to be expected at 0.3c
  10. Got down to -2.2c with a covering of snow better than expected really Temps are currently 0.0c with sunny blue skies,it was cloudy for most of the morning with no thawing until the sun came out it`s thawing quickly in the sun where roofs were facing and steep fields are now, otherwise it won`t be in the shade.
  11. Yes I have to rate that cold spell much higher than this for the snowfall and drifting snow, nothing of the sort this winter yet  , but temps on the other hand are just as good if not colder if these very cold temps this coming week verifies.
  12. Hasn`t been alot of frost here either until the last 4 day,not much last night but thats to do with cloudcover temps still got below freezing, thick ice like I havn`t seen since the mid-90`s that`ll be after this coming week, same goes for the ground being rock hard which it is now.
  13. The CET zone is still below freezing at midday.
  14. So december 1996 was 2.9c with January 2.5c This december we don`t know yet 3.6c so if we were to say HP was around for most of January it`s possible, giving frosts and cold days to even out, it could be the coldest first 2 months of winter since 1981/82 along shot but it`s possible.
  15. Credit goes to GP though for forecasting a cooler than normal december firstly. As for the final figure it`s getting rather confusing after reading some of these posts 3.6c I`ll say maybe 3.5c if we`re lucky.
  16. Was that as much snow as you had in april 1989. For me I`ll go through the highlight for each month. January, easterly with temps at -0.1c with a covering of snow on the 4th,today was colder still though Feb, it has to be that frost and different range of temps, warm high then a colder high never known it like that. March, for being colder during the 2nd half with snowshowers at times been missing for years. April, best snowfall since 2000 and it was a wintry month best of the decade on average. May,for being the most easterly on record. June,Actually had some severe gales on the 22nd  July,The only hot spell of the summer lasting 10days but then giving some amazing torrential thunderstorms on the 28th. August, dullest on record thats how I`ll remember that. Sept,Pass. Oct,biggest snowfall ever and record cold days. November won`t be remembered for much in the way of snow here, but cold beginning and cold end it will. December will be for ice at the beginning and cold beginning, cold end.
  17. That must be the coldest January day in shawbury for a good number of years. Made -0.2c here and sunny all day, although my other only got upto -4c  -1.8c now.
  18. It`ll be back below 0c by tommorrow and the next day.
  19. It`s a repeating pattern to the last 3 months except october, december had colder starts, this month looks colder still first 10 days anyway this HP will be stubborn, this looks to test that first week 10 days of 1997 aswell, especially where freezing fog is.
  20. Been a sunny and clear afternoon with a light E/NE wind still some rime left on some of trees, which most of it has fell off leaving some underneath which won`t be thawing, gone cloudy now at 0.5c with a max of 1.6c looks to be a clearance coming back in from the east.
  21. -1.1C was the low last night and cloudy, had some snow grains this morning given a very slight dusting,it`s brightened up today with the sun come out at 0.8c in an east wind.
  22. Happy new year to you too a very cold one. I think even I may have gone slightly too high on this even should`ve gone below 3c but I won`t change it now,got december`s just too high aswell when I went for 4c
  23. Still cloudy as temps slowly fall -2.6c, wonder if the sun will even come out next few days.
  24. Tonight is looking rather interesting to say the very least, looks like being the coldest night of this cold spell so far but with cloudcover -1.6c as it was -1.8c the other night and clear.
