  1. Well one thing is certain I`ve never seen the white stuff in september. http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_06_UTC/66_30.gif http://www2.wetter3.de/Animation_12_UTC/66_30.gif
  2. We have just 2 years ago which look even better charts except there was no extreme cold over russia during this spell. Had quite a number of snow showers later this day which became more frequent but just gave a dusting at max temps of 2.3c. First time I saw that chart from feb 1979 was last autumn when Steve Murr posted it.
  3. I can see it ending up below 14c now coolest since 2001 just a gut feeling.
  4. Yes feb 86 was the last great long freeze as BFTP said there`s been 2 since but shorter Jan 87 and Feb 91 with temps below -10 and clear frosty days well below freezing. Jan and Feb 1985 winter stands out as another great example I can remember with dry clear skies with HP after heavy snowfall with severe frosts with Dec 81/Jan 82. Earliest I can remember though was Jan 1979 after the New years eve severe blizzards then severe frosts. Except you`d get frozen water pipes and diesel freezing which was a problem then. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119790102.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119850108.gif
  5. It does indeed look a chilly night north midlands but milder under the rainband/cloud it`s clearer here now but still quite abit of mid-layer cloud also and light winds. http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/Rmgfs184.gif
  6. Remember it well with easterly gales/blizzards big time days before
  7. No days reached 25c here this year. Had two 24`s. June 11th 24.1c August 4th 24.5c warmest day this summer.
  8. I say it`ll be the coolest september since 2003 which was 14.3c hopefully it`ll be 13.9c instead and I`ll be on the nose.
  9. Tuesday night looking the coldest in the south with light winds and cool upper air temps.
  10. Same here with a covering of snow in the morning which thawed but it was a very disturbed couple of days from this deep low with severe gales torrential rain/hail flash flooding aswell as a sleet/snow shower later on the 30th with a severe squall to boot. 11. Oh to see another autumn and winter like that again winter would be a shock to the sytem. A couple of classic charts from that autumn mentioned though from summer to winter in a month. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119851001.gif
  12. Since I started recording temps in Jan 1990 just checked back and I make that the the 5th coldest night/daytime temps which is impressive. And I remember that day very well too it felt perishing with a slight SE breeze.
  13. It was a great March there`s not doubt about it best for cold/snow for a good number of years. Coldest night/day however during the whole winter was this day... http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120051229.gif As it got down to -8.2c with a max of -2c(-9c min and -3.5c max on the old mercury one) making it the coldest night/day since not 1996 very close mind but... When -5c was the max and -9c the min and what`s uncanny is it`s exactly 10 years to the day.
  14. A very dry colder winter 2005/06 was and it`ll be interesting if it happens again. Just a few very blocked charts from that late autumn/winter each month which were very chilly to recent years. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120051118.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120051228.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120060126.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120060201.gif This just looks like a normal chart just above but it never got above -1.1c that day. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120060303.gif
  15. Well it certainly was an interesting summer for cool/cold wets dark days and gales on 2 occasions. May started that off by those very cold days at the end of the month for the time of year. June for me was definately the most interesting best for weather of the whole year let alone summer with a warm settled fortnight to start then the fireworks expolded starting with almost 1 inch of rain on the 14th then amazing torrential thunderstorms 15th with 2.2inches causing the biggest flash floods in 50 years in a village where our streams go. :o Followed by more fantastic thunderstorms 4 days later then more very heavy thunder shower on the 24th then 25th the N-ly gales never to be forgotten what a month. :o July was much less dramatic but still was interesting and cool but I wanted nice weather then which was getting annoying with the endless rain and floods but there was some thunder days too and also the 2nd biggest flood ever here!!!!! with another gale early in the month. August made up for the dry part so overall it was a very good summer except for some of July.
  16. Last winter was forecast to be colder and look what happened one of the most disppointing mildest winters ever mind you we did have our heaviest drier snowfall since 1987 but it turned wet in the end started off powdery(only lasted 4 days), and the heaviest snowfall otherwise since 1988 which was the worst winter as it was very wet snow yuck! all 1 foot of it causing all sorts of damage which lasted just a couple days. Every winter is different and it`s hard to say at this long range what`ll happen it changes as you get to a closer timeframe so if it says very mild now it`ll say something else a weeks/months later and change for the better. I take what comes anyway just as long as we don`t get so many mild wet SW winds like last winter.
  17. Well it`s the coolest august since 1993 with sunshine 100% and rainfall below average at 84%. August 1993 was quite alot more unsettled and wetter as I`ve only recorded 0.7inches this month as 1993 made 2.6inches here anyway. Well I was too high at my stab at 16.7c August 1980-1984 were all warmer also. :o
  18. Seasonal weather of yesteryear first. Winter Nov 21st - april 22nd Spring April 22nd - June 21st Summer June 21st - August 21st Autumn August 21st - Nov 20th. :o As for the average season now. Winter Dec 1st - March 15th Spring March 15th - May 15th. Summer May 15th - September 21st Autumn September 22nd - Dec 1st. And this year I`d put it like. Winter about 20 days(25 days) Spring in March just and Summer in April and early June and most of august and the first half of september perhaps. The rest was a very very very long autumn.
  19. Last september was 16.8c and was the warmest on record smashed. The 2 previous years were warm too. 2nd warmest was 1953 We`re due a cooler september this year and a dry one I think. Considering I`ve overdone the last 2 months which looks likely for august also I`ll go for 13.9c.
  20. An autumn like 1986 would be nice cold and dry with lots of ground/air frosts down to -5c and 42 days without rain I wish. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119860919.gif An week/10 day indian summer is always welcome in October but not outstaying it`s welcome like last autumn. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119850930.gif Expect it`ll be cooler overall to recent years and wetter to normal but maybe some warmer drier spells aswell. As for november well thats too far out yet.
  21. Nothing noticeable here since had a light shower/a sharper one yesterday evening and an extra 1mm of rain. I did notice the wind change direction to a north/NE as the lower clouds were seen all of a sudden this morning but a light wind. I would describe this low as a gentle giant in most places especially here. Heavy showers about on the radar though in bands.
  22. There`s no doubt about that this is the deepest summer low so far our glass hasn`t been this low for awhile 990mbs now and still going down. http://85.214.49.20/pics/brack0.gif Heavy rain in northern england now dry and sunny at times here and humid 18.6c.. looks like more patchy rain or a few showers heading this way on the radar.
  23. Looks like you`ve had 1 inch then. Overhyped so far just light patchy rain here amounting to 5mm(0.2inches) And a gentle S-ly maybe moderate at times. Slowly becoming somewhat brighter from the south as this light drizzly stuff has stopped and it feels muggy.
  24. Wind mean speeds 30mph in places which from the south which I don`t mind from that direction and also find a S-ly isn`t usually that strong here anyway when forecast and looking at the fax it`s the south/coasts central east and SW Wales that gets the strongest winds and what XC map shows too. http://85.214.49.20/pics/brack0.gif Some very patchy rain showing on the radar at the moment it doesn`t look like it`ll dampen the dust yet ...dry but getting cloudy here and calm.
  25. Last night was chilly 6.9c and I make it the coldest august night for 12 years. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119950809.gif If only we could have a high like that now.
