  1. August this year was cooler though at 15.4c, 2006`s was average after the record breaking hot July. And what about July this year at 15.2c the same as 1993. Since 1966 say there has only been 3 July`s colder 1978 at 14.8c, 1980 and 1988 both at 14.7c That actually makes it the 4th coolest July I`ve lived through after last years hottest.
  2. Thats sounds about right except if it was 3-5c with wind it would make it cold and 10-13c is very mild although to see 6 to 7c shown on the bbc forecast say in march in a fresh NW-ly is cold and cold enough for snow showers here. Today was 6.6c here so just I put it as above average by 1c even though it felt rather fresh. A max of 0.0c to -3c with no or just thawing very slight but briefly still as icicles form is what I aim for. But even in the bitterly cold february 1986 with a cet of -1.1c there were days when at a certain time of day around mid-late morning it starting thawing slightly on the less cold days during that month in the shade and it was cloudy can`t say what the maxes was then. There were sunny days that month also when snow had thawed 2 or 3 some of the steepest fields facing the sun and there were many icicles on the roof that month amazing. As for a maxes of -8c to -11c that was exceptional like in december 81 or Jan 82 and Jan 87 when snow/frost wouldn`t even thaw in the sun now thats exceptional. Another thing it depends which direction the wind is coming from on how cold we aim for like we`ve had mild NW-lys coming round the top of a HP. Another thing I remember is we had a bitterly cold easterly one year then the wind changed during the cold spell to a cold north or NW but it was`nt quite the same as an east wind with slightly more thawing and it didn`t feel as cold, that may of been feb 1991 I`m thinking of.
  3. I`m very happy with that, 2nd month I`ve got bang on this year .... that makes 5 years now since 1900 that 4.9 cet was made. 1905/1945/1973 and 1989.
  4. Last jan was 7.0c and the mildest on record, 6.7c would be the equal 2nd mildest with 1983 ands thats since 1900, I can`t see that happening myself, but stranger things have happened I suppose.
  5. 3.3c please, the coldest since 2001 which was 1c below average.
  6. Yes the CET going to take a hammering today and another cold day tomorrow not quite as cold as today especially later in the west. Saturday`s not looking that mild either as it was a few days ago and sunday`s looking cold again. http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn5417.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn7217.png GFS is getting very good with these temp forecasts as 1c was the max shown for today it was colder than that in places with the freezing fog.
  7. Light snow flurries within the last hour with a layer of stratus/east/SE wind 0.4c now.
  8. Skies are clearing here and the wind has picked up light to moderate from the east/SE at -0.3c.
  9. That was last years storm which never happened the crisp packet is still in tact somewhere. All I want again is a winter chart like this again this year preferably with the feb to follow. awesome feb.
  10. It does look like if this continental SE-ly or slack east even, then if high sticks around like the models suggest the SE will certainly get quite plummet in temps especially. Last years was a mild 6.5c and it does look like being 1c lower at least if the high stays 2c. I went for 4.9c which was dec 1989 cet who remembers that month it wasn`t exactly a memorable month as I remember. Looks like there was an ineresting set-up here though. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119891211.gif
  11. Already 15c reached in north Wales,it`s even milder than tuesday here at 12.6c so 0.5c higher it`s getting a bit ridiculous for december this is,and the coolest day in the summer was 12.7c at the very end of June. Click on temps. http://xcweather.co.uk/
  12. December 1st winter starts in weather. I expected today to test it out with another on thusday with more very mild atlantic air. As for warmest days even December 1985 it reached 17.7c in devon in a fohn effect. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119851202.gif
  13. Yes dec 1999 was the last time we had cold zonality at this time of year at the begining of the month. This day gave hail, sleet and snow showers with W-ly gales with the snow showers (rare now) and a dusting of snow here max temps 3c lower than todays actually here. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119991204.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219991204.gif But as TWS said this was the last great cold zonality to remember with prolonged heavy snow shower with 2.5inches with slight drifting and what a perfect time for it to come 4 inches by boxing day. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120041225.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00220041225.gif A different situation to what we have currently with those anyway. http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn001.png
  14. Well 2005/06 winter my highest max was just 10c. last year it was 11.1c both happened feb. 18c somewhere I`ll say.
  15. 4.9c but it may end up lower but thats my punt, first week looks mobile atlantic with not exactly mild but coolish westerlies then after that it could get interesting, but there again it may not.
  16. LOL, yes I assure you, Stratos that the measurements were carefully made in the vertical plane, as opposed to the horizontal. We ended up with a maximum mean depth of 15.8cm around 0200, the mean taken from measurements in a dozen different places. Equally surprising was the rainfall total for yesterday of 35.5 mm, most of it melted snow. It was the heaviest November snowfall here since the 19th in 1996 when there was 30 cm (29.9cm average to be precise) T.M
  17. Those dates reminds me of a few past christmases when we had snow either side of christmas and a mild xmas followed by a cold near year with snow in the 90`s Last 2 mild ones were actually only 2002/03 as all the others in the 00`s were cold days here. 2000/0c 2001/2c 2002/8c 2003/8c 2004/0c 2005/3c 2006/3c 2007/??????
  18. A great chart too. I Don`t remember that as I was only 1. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219701225.gif
  19. I see he is 900ft up so as high as our lowest ground but snow every christmas isn`t possible. The 90`s were the best for white xmas`s but I seen to remember a very nasty storm one christmas eve in 1997 and mild temps. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119971224.gif And there was one year Mr Data said he had no snow in 1992. Well not sure if this counts but there was a sharp frost and sprinkles of snow to start with as it thawed. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119921224.gif
  20. Since sept 1st I`ve recorded 76mm and with just 1mm so far in november.
  21. No can`t have that. Warm humid thundery summer a few extreme days like this summer also with a few cold/wet days/thunderstorms and a month like this august and a cold winter with blizzards, but with a couple of mild spells not lasting any more than a week. And an autumn like we`re having now very dry except temps want to be 10c lower to today`s max 15c although it`s much better to rain/gales and getting soaked.
  22. Going back to how cool these easterlies next week will be... 4 years ago we had a somewhat rather simlar set-up. although more advanced with winds more east/SE to next week I think it was sunny on that occasion but not sure. Cool nights here anyway down 4/5c and maxes of 10/11c just on the 15/16/17 and 18th 2003 with mild/warm upper air. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120031015.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00220031015.gif Next week. http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1261.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1262.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn13217.png
  23. Followed without knowing whats coming next which on two I do in particular. 1986/1996/2006 next I`d say, then 1976 last.
  24. From the title of the thread "where has the winter cold gone" Just at total random a day in January from each decade since 1956 firstly the sypnotics. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119560112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119660112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119760112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119860112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119960112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120060112.gif Now the upper air temps. looking at last year there`s more cold to 1956 as upper air temps show at total random. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219560112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219660112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219760112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219860112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219960112.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00220060112.gif Pick of those sypnotics for me though is 1966 then 1956.
  25. Yes friday 17th was the first day of wintriness here and a ground frost also.
