  1. A very interesting table there thanks, as for last years max I too can`t see that 30c was reached myself this year I would of put as a higher max but only slightly.
  2. So is 29.7c the highest temp this summer as last summer also made 29.7c in august, you would normally expect 30c to be reached somewhere but to get 2 summers in a row these days is different. Last time it never reached 30c was in 1993 when once again 29.7c was the max in July and the last time that happened was in august 1981 at 29.5c, I thought summer of 1988 it only reached about 28c.
  3. Very warm last night of 16c there was a touch more drizzle alot of cloud once again today but with a few sunnybreaks and it is just a few 19.9c now and the sun is out now.!!!!!!
  4. The sun came out yesterday afternoon for around 2 hours 19c max and an 30/45 mins earlier this morning but since then it`s been cloudy but it`s quite bright/warm and humid now at 20.2c with odd small gaps and light wind another cloudy one tomorrow, thundery showers doesn`t look like coming this far west after
  5. Could be a very stormy/very wet autumn this year then, as those years 1998-2001 some the worst autumn storms seen and heaviest torrential rain during any autumn well heaviest rain ever, the period during sept for flooding 1999, october for the damaging storms, hope for more colder air in the mix.
  6. Certainly looks like the sunshine levels will be the main talking point a record low august is now looking inevitable next 4 days look on the dull side especially the further west you are. Interesting that last june sunshine only made average seemed quite a sunny month to me. Temps will end up just slightly above average by the looks now.
  7. Yes Pit it doesn`t look very summery now for warm sunshine, including saturday for the west still showed cloudcover, thundery breakdown sunday then we`re into autumn atlantic lows cooler wet/windy/showery.
  8. This is the type of weather we get in the autumn or winter not summer with anticylonic gloom except the high isn`t over us at the moment(tomorows chart)not a great lookig fax so more gloom and some drizzle. http://85.214.49.20/pics/brack0a.gif The sun came out for 2 minutes and temps rocketed to 17.2c otherwise it would`ve been just over 1c lower to yesterday.
  9. I just had a look at last night upper air temps and they are very warm with a west flow, but it wasn`t that warm here down to 13.9c and windy. As for today thought yesterday was dull but it has topped that with it being darker and some morning drizzle and windy now the wind has dropped and you`ve guessed it/it`s started drizzling again temps hardly moving cooler than yesterday at 14.8c and it feels cool.
  10. A few charts from that autumn starting with the warmest day at 22c here on sept 11th the first half was warm and reasonably settled,2nd half was very wet and unsettled. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...a0012000911.gif Then the gales to severe gales started on oct 3rd with lots of twigs and boughs broken off by the 4th. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120001003.gif More gales on the 9th the first ground frost on the 22nd at 2c then more gales 24th/25th not damaging though. Oct 28th yet more gales but the highlight of october 2000 was the 29th/30th infact that was the highlight all that autumn as november gave no snow as the 29th gave torential rain/hail with flash floods. 30th severe gales, heavy snow shower with a covering then a thaw with frequent showers/then as there were still severe gales a squall, storm force in that with a sleet and snow shower to end that dramatic day!!!!! http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120001029.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120001030.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00220001030.gif A colder crisp autumn I would like to see but that doesn`t look very likely this year... wetter windy and cooler overall looks more like it. Some snow in october aswell.
  11. From what I can see this cloudy damp spell looks like continuing until friday anyway now and the S-ly plume comes friday night/saturday which should be the sunniest day hopefully, then it breaks down saturday night sunday with thundery rain/showers so much for the settled spell that was shown.!!! This cloud will take some shifting too now so it could end up the dullest august on record.
  12. Just made 16.9c today and theres also some mid-level cloud about today aswell as the low cloud just about broke up to leave a few brief gaps no sun though. Now it`s more like november with it being rather dark.
  13. This is turning out to be a very dissapointing end of august in the west holiday weather I think not at the coast, no sun and drizzle at night and mornings in a very moist west/SW flow and a thick low cloudsheet just very mild at night temp now 15.8c Still bits of drizzle in the wind now and 2mm last night.
  14. Well this summer hasn`t been too warm has it??? As for something like physical work for instance firstly in winter on a coldish 7c windy day in winter well at least then when you feel cold you can get warm but if you were to just standing around at say a outside sale all day in an exposed place it`s like brass monkeys after a while  , but warm to hot days in the summer now that is most uncomfortable 18/20c+ working in,and another thing people say about the heat in this country is the amount of humidity, as if you went say to spain the heat there isn`t uncomfortable not as I`ve been there to experience it.
  15. Last august was cool for recent years 15.4c but it was a much better month than how this month will turn out as there was plenty of dry and sunnny weather, but as I said last night we could still end up near that mark again at this month`s end, as yesterday was a 0.2c drop and plenty of wet cool days to come from saturday and cool again tonight as was last night at 9.7c here a shade warmer today though with more sun it`s average for the month now.
  16. Nights seem to of started to cool off starting from last night the first single figure of 9.5c here and tonight looks similar a below average august looks easily possible to me now, especially looking at the models.
  17. I`ve seen a cloud somewhat like you described but recently may of been around that time and it was one morning, this was like altostratus/stratus inbetween those 2 levels, and it was quite thin but unusual but it was nice to look at like crystal type cloud ,seen it more than once though usually in the morning. August 10th also gave a thundery shower at 10.45 - midnight also and the following morning by the looks of it oh yes I remember that now from 7.35am to 8am then 8.50 to 9.25am. thundery showers passing by.
  18. I agree that Summer 2008 is a poor one overall no doubt it might be average on temps but it`s way too unsettled and wet overall the general public will put this as a poor summer even if next weekened settles down it`s just that bit too late in the season. Summers of the 50s/60s were cooler no doubt but probably not as wet as summers now on average with more intense rainfall.
  19. Summer 1990 had 34 days above 20c but there were cold nights in June but there was more sun than 94 which just had 19 days above 20 here, different locations makes a difference to certain parts of the country as the CET doesn`t count then and we didn`t have the internet to see all these wonderful facts we get now. 1989 was a much dryer sunnier summer even though I took no readings the ground was burnt right over that year.
  20. Was a very shortlived hot spell here and this was the hottest day with 28c on the 9th next night was also very warm indeed at 18c followed by a thundery shower at 8.15 until 9.50am on the 10th which was certainly very unusual probably the only time I`ve ever seen thunder at that time of day. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120030810.gif
  21. Unless a long settled period does come from mid-month which the models are showing very tentively,we might get 2 of the worst most unsettled summers in a row since 1987/88 then whats the odds on that happening!!! I judge a summer not just by temps which has only been average for a typical summer overall, but by how wet and dull it`s been there has been some warm/mild nights though and 1 hot spell doesn`t make a good summer as in the last week/9days of July.
  22. Memory is a funny thing but 1989/90/and 1991 were 3 summers I remember much more than 1994 and which did have that bit more rain spread out over so many days so much less burning of the fields with 24c max in July 1994, as 1989 was the dryest I could remember with burnt grass covering most fields here since 1976 which was extreme, 1983 it probably was actually , followed sharply by 1990 then to a lesser extent 1991 no sign of that happening this summer.
  23. Not really surprising the nights have been mild so far this month as we`ve been in very mild upper air well it would be for winter. But compared with this tme last year the CET would be lower after today as I recorded the warmest day of the summer at 24.5c It will change this week though with warmer muggy air coming but wet so daytime won`t be much higher, as it looks cooler by the weekened. Last august had some notably cool nights and was the coolest since 1993 at 15.4c
  24. So rather surprising that 29.7c was the highest max as shown on the 30c thread as 30c was forecast about 3 times as far as I seen. It was a good enough month for me anyway in the end after that notably cool unsettled first few weeks.
  25. Still is the equal hottest day I`ve recorded along with July 19th 2006 at 32c and 1990 was a very hot summer as was 1989 with solar maximum being at it`s highest... and with the most massive northern lights display ever seen in Spring 1989. :o http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119900803.gif
