  1. I think in Philip Edens last book about British disasters that there was a loose correlation to April and Summer? As in if April is dry then summer overall will be wet and vice versa? Doesn't always work as I think April 2003 was dry, however he mentions it's to do with the lengthening of the Rossby Waves from Spring into Summer mode? Maybe someone else could confirm my thoughts!
  2. Thanks! Sky plussed it on the +1 channel
  3. Well done Stu for achieving your dream of experiencing the eye, was it the stadium effect you wanted? I've got a feeling from when I was reading through the forums for Gustav that the eye was cloudy, was that the case? Also to have a partner as understanding as yours is a blessing, even though they know they are weather widows/wags! Mine is understandable to a point, she wouldn't let me know go tornado chasing unless she went with me to make sure I didn't do anything stupid! B) Let's hope there's a second part in the pipeline!
  4. Still snowing lightly here! Grass and cars are white, we have between 1 and 2 cm on the ground. Wasn't expecting this so nice surprise to end the week! Only Wed and Thurs this week it hasn't snowed on, a great wintery week!
  5. Well it's been sleeting/snowing here/Crawley for the last 3 hours! Nothing particularly heavy but enough to settle on cars and grass. I should imagine the south downs north of Worthing/Lancing/Shoreham should be getting a good few inches!
  6. Yes I've had reports from work colleagues saying that along the A23 near Haywards heath it's chucking it down! I think it's rain here though? (Can't get to a window to check!)
  7. It's snowing and sleeting here at the moment, started about 10 min ago. Beginning to see bigger flakes now!
  8. Just started to .........................rain! Although it does sound a bit tinny (do you like my technical term?! ) Oh well never mind, at least the pavements will be easier to walk on!
  9. A new centimetre of snow overnight...which was nice <_< ......and now it's just started snowing again lightly! Dark clouds above and to my west, anywhere to my west looks like it's getting a pounding!
  10. Started to snow Sunday 01st Feb @ 12.30, started off with a few moderate showers until some heavier ones came through and deposited 3 inches overnight. More snow showers during Monday morning which became persistent from 1pm onwards! Looks like we are right on the western edge of this band heading north. Big flakes, main roads still clear at the moment but it could be dicey after dark! Hence we've been told that the office is closing at 15.30!
  11. Started snowing from the main band around 12.30pm, in the last half an hour it's got it's act together and we're having some very heavy snow falling!! Big flakes! The roads later on after dark are going to be a nightmare!
  12. Started snowing again about half an hour ago, to add to the 3 inches we had overnight. People ringing in saying that can't get to work from Brighton to Crawley, so I should imagine the A23 is pretty bad!
  13. Steve, Does that include towns bordering Surrey? Saaaaaay Crawley? Haha! Currently have about 4 cms or so on the ground and it's currently snowing moderately! On and off for most of the day!
  14. Nice bonus showers today which has left a dusting! At times moderate snow falling and blowing about Stopped for now but hoping later on tomorrow the mild sector doesn't come this far west, but hey all of this and all that's coming is a hell of alot better than a Bartlett!
  15. Got to think that the SW will have an effect, and with Feb normally pretty blocked even without the warming up top, I'm going for a temp of: 2.7c
  16. Does this sound about right? http://www.dailytech.com/Sea+Ice+Ends+Year...rticle13834.htm
  17. My heart says 2.6c My head say 4.5c I'll go with the heart!!
  18. Well done guys! It's not easy to try and talk casually when you know your being televised! I could sense the nervousness but I'm sure with more exposure you'll all be fine! I found it very enjoyable even though the wife just kept giving me funny looks when she heard weird words like QBO, MJO etc! Thanks again and I look forward to the next installment! I think maybe some planning/structure as to who is going to explain what, with accompanying screen shots/animations, might have helped but it's your first time so we'll let you off!
  19. Mods - feel free to delete or move if it's being discussed elsewhere: http://www.easternuswx.com/bb/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 Execellent forecast......for Mushymanrob!
  20. AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Joe Bast*rdri Forecasts Coldest Winter in Five Years AccuWeather.com Chief Long-Range Forecaster Joe Bast*rdri today released his 2008-09 Winter Season Forecast addressing issues of average temperature and precipitation impacting the nation. His forecast calls for one of the coldest winters in several years across much of the East. The core of cold was centered across the Midwest last year but is expected to be farther east this year. laminate floori says the winter of 2008-2009 will be viewed as the hardest in several years. "It may be a shock to some when compared with the above-average temperatures of last year in the East. It will put some 'brrrrrr' in the saddle of folks who have not had to deal with such things for a while," he cautions. "In the eastern half of the nation, people will look at the winter as bookends of cold," laminate floori said. He says the overall colder and snowier winter will be off to a cold start in December with perhaps the roughest winter month for much of the nation. It may finish with another cold spell in late January and February. Between the bookends of cold, laminate floori expects "the January thaw of old winter lore" but it will offer only a temporary break to consumers. "The winter as a whole in the population-dense eastern third of the nation will be a one-two punch of higher heating prices and lower temperatures. Given this economic environment, the winter will push some homeowners to the brink," he concludes. In some cases, homeowners trying to keep their residences as warm as last winter could spend hundreds of dollars more this heating season. Temperatures across most of the West will be warmer than last year and should be warmer than normal, which will help consumers by keeping heating cost increases in check. The northern Rockies and Northwest will still have more snow than normal but not as much as last year, where some locations developed a snow pack that reached twice normal levels. The Midwest was blasted by snow last year and many communities ran very low on salt to keep roads clear of ice. Despite the elevated cost of salt this winter season, these areas will receive a break in the form of less snow than last year. Unfortunately, the East will not turn out as lucky, as more snowfall than last year is expected. Not sure what if any impact this has for us? Although he does tend to forecast cold most years! B)
  21. Well if there is going to be an increased snow depth around during Autumn, then IMO this will bode well for our winter. Your optimism and Steve's apparent optimistic posts here and over on Eastern show (I think) he's looking forward to this winter also. Possibly more so than previous years! ; Sorry for the OT post!
  22. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/seasonal/autumn2008/ It looks like they think it's going to be a pretty average autumn! Thoughts?
  23. Take a bow PP! Apparently 30C has been recorded at Heathrow!
  24. Apparently it's now on the move! Moving NW at 2 mph, which means it could score a direct hit on Bermuda as a TS, mostly wind as there doesn't appear to be that much rain associated with it now.
