  1. Hovered between -5°C and -6°c last night , but we just managed an ice day today when it got up to -0.2°C. Currently it’s -5.5°C
  2. -5.0°C already, if it stays clear could be the coldest night so far.
  3. Perhaps cloud filtering in now. Got down to -5.4°C but has since risen to -4.1°C
  4. It’s interesting, even though on the radar precip is very slight, it actually snowing quite heavily.
  5. Rumble of thunder with this latest shower, though nothing showing up. Torrential rain!
  6. Unless they are introduced by humans there aren’t a lot of deadly or venomous creatures that would arrive here. Different species of mosquitoes that carry diseases for example could arrive, in which case killing them would be a case of self preservation and defense. I for example have killed ticks that I have found (Lyme disease etc)
  7. Spider or crane fly? Crane flies don’t have mouth parts so they won’t bite you. I’ve been bitten by spiders before, still catch them and put them outside when I don’t want them around. Sorry it’s a real bug bear of mine. I work in conservation and so I see a lot of the attitudes towards wildlife that the general public have. I get that a lot of people are afraid of them but we really do need to learn to change our attitudes.
  8. Doesn’t mean you have to kill them on sight though! it just bugs me how we have this attitude. We need to get out of this mind set, especially as so many insects species are declining.
  9. I find it sad how we so easily kill harmless insects just because they inconvience us or we’re scared of them.
  10. Quite a bit of glorious heavy rain today, which I’m very greatful for. Although even with the rain still some hotspots burning in the peat. Hopefully it’s enough rain to start soaking in deeper soon.
  11. Much needed rain! Will help damn out the last smouldering bits of the fire. Hopefully we will get enough to proper wet the ground, should stop the arsonists for a day or two!
  12. 18z reduces the heat slightly for tomorrow, perhaps maxing out at 38°C in the Manchester area, maybe a 39°C in Cheshire. A relatively cool 21.9°C here now. Though still 30°C in my bedroom
  13. They will unfortunately. We’ve got arsonists knocking about in the middle of the night
  14. Keep curtains and windows closed to prevent your house becoming a greenhouse. Should save you a few degrees.
  15. Despite low pressure hanging round for the next week or so, it looks like very little rain. Hope we’re not heading for a drought.
  16. I rarely stray down south but as luck would have it I’m in East London tonight. Have seen a couple of very distant flashes.
  17. While I've been enjoying the nice weather, we really do need some rain now. Vegetation on the hills is tinder dry and crispy.
  18. Well we finally got some proper snow last night. Only a small dusting but at least it settled and was good to see heavy thick flakes!
