  1. Sporadic snaw showers continued overnight but only a bare dusting stuck. Pepped up at first light and became more prolonged, so we now have a decent covering - but that is all. Underwhelmed by this first snaw shot of 2017 so far. Cauld right enough, so whatever falls should stick. 0.2C/-2C
  2. Snaw's still trying to settle here, but only a dusting on the grass so far. Wind is up again and showers blawing through fairly regularly. 1.3C/-1C. Will await tomorrow morning to see if the 'potential' actually delivers. I remain hopeful.
  3. Back to blustery snaw showers now. Still not settling just yet. 1.8C/-1C And re the ****trumpets going up the mountains ill-equipped given the weather warnings in place: bill them the mountain rescue costs.
  4. No, not yet. Bit more of a wintry mix this afternoon, but hopefully they'll pep up again overnight. Currently 2.3C/-2C.
  5. Snaw showers now here and they're potent. Wind's eased off a bit for the moment. 2.4C/0C - intae the freezer we go. Game on!
  6. Bit breezy overnight and continuing blustery this morning with horizontal sleet showers. Tops of the surrounding hills already back in their winter plumage. 3.4C/1C and feels baltic. Latest TOORPing Therapy Centre update: the GFS appears to have gone cold turkey and the ECM & METO are sobering up - all backing away from the 'Beasterly' (sort of). "And a black cloud* did appear over all of Fluffyshire and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth before breakfast." *unfortunately, it was not snow bearing.
  7. *BANK* TOORPing outreach centre ODing on prozac-laced cup cakes this evening due to ECM having taken on the GFS in a drinking session that's turned into a lock-in. Stellas (obviously) for all of Fluffyshire. Honestly, you'd think they'd never seen a snowflake... Anyway, after a wee breeze and a bit of a dusting, looks like it might turn a wee bit chilly for the next several days. Bless.
  8. Top of the morning and a belated very Happy New Year to all on the Kilted Thread. A quiet start to 2017 weatherwise here, though that looks like it's about to change bigtime. ECM and UKMO showing firm support for the cold snap (weekend) turning into a cold spell (into next week). Cauld? Aye. There will be snaw. How much? Not a scooby. GFS, clearly still p*shed up from New Year, now talking to the other 'Big Two' and seeking to outdo them both by producing this chart on the 06Z stagger back from the pub run. The TOORPing therapy safe space is all multipacks of Haribo, hugs and kisses this morning (apart from the odd 'Scrooge' (mildie) or two induging in a spot of trolling balanced realism ). However, sod that. I found this. Buckle up for a repeat of 1947!
  9. Hope everyone had a very Merry Crimbo. PG junior very excited that we had proof of Santa... ;-)> Awoke to a slushy dusting of the white stuff here this morning and intermittent wintry (horizontal) showers still blawin through, so technically a White Boxing Day. Currently, 2.9C/3C after an overnight low of 1.2C. From the models, looks like we're going into the freezer from New Year onwards. At last. Happy Boxing!
  10. True, ECM isnae Winter Wonderland weather, either. Getting awfy close to being within the more accurate timeframe now, too. I hope Santa's got some hefty stabilisers on that sleigh.
  11. This is one occasion where I hope the ECM is closer to the correct solution and 'the GFS has gone off on one'. (910mb!) because if these are 'nailded on' it's going to be a far from 'stella' Christmas for many of us. That's enough model speak for a Monday morning. At least the atmosphere in the TOORPing thread has now settled down again somewhat after all their 62-63 snowfest fantasies were crushed once again by...the weather. Grey & mild - a bit keech - covers it for here this morning. 7C.
  12. Very sad news. A favourite forecaster when I was wee. I'll always remember one forecast he presented which showed an incoming arctic blast: "Good news for small people with sledges; bad news for the rest of us." A true cauldie. RIP
  13. Evening all. After the most benign autumn I can remember, time to end the estivation and return to the MacPalace of Sanity for the fun bit of the year. Second ice day of the autumn/winter yesterday and raw again all day today. First of the rain arrived mid-morning and it's turned progressively heavier and mair dreich since then. Currently 1.0C/DP 1C and heavy cauld rain. The lead in to this winter reminds me of 2012-13 regarding recent winters, despite all the usual posts about 'promising background signals' and general hype in the TOORPing thread. Lots of wild cards, though, this time. Time will tell, but for cauldies, it's off to a decent start. Just the wee mild blip to get through now...
  14. Thank you! An ice day here today after an overnight low of -9.0C - and it's only 21st November. Winter 2016-17 is gonna be a whopper!
  15. I'd like a number, too, please. We're off to a flyer here: two coverings already and we're still in autumn!
  16. Perhaps a slight echo of 47/63, until start of January. Winter of two halves.
