  1. Ready for a wee bit of quieter weather now after the efforts of Gertrude & Henry - and the flooding a week ago. Three peaks in the wind yesterday: between 9am and 10am, then another spike at lunchtime and finally just after midnight. Much less blowy today. Finally managed to snap these braw nacreous clouds this morning, too - bonnie! 5.2C/1C and changeable.
  2. -0.3C min overnight, cloudy and foggy. Snowcover mainly intact. A further snaw flurry around 9am this morning. Took a wee birl up to Loch Earn to snap it in its winter finery. Braw. Currently 0.4C/1C and cloudy.
  3. The full wintry works here overnight and this morning. A minimum of -0.6ºC overnight and freezing rain to top up the existing snowpack. This turned to snaw for a while around 9am and then as the temperature and dewpoint gradually crept up, it changed to sleety rain. It can now best be described as a wintry mix and it's persisting it down. A lot of hill fog, too. Currently 0.8ºC/1ºC.
  4. A few flakes earlier this evening. Has now just gently started to snaw again. -0.5C/-1C
  5. Snaw started just before 1pm and has given us another inch of cover. Still going, albeit only the odd flake now. -1.3C/-2C Snaps of sledging and a random hot air balloon from Crieff this afternoon.
  6. Ended up with just over 3" from last night's snawfall. Result! Froze overnight with a low of -2.1ºC and the high for today looks to be in at 0.8ºC, so a very slight thaw in the beautiful cauld sunshine. Currently 0.0ºC/-2ºC An absolutely cracking day here today - cannot remember the last time I clapped eyes on blue skies such as these. It's been a while... Went for a wee dander and took some snaps of the winter wonderland.
  7. Snaw's now been on for over five hours. Heading for a couple of inches on the level using the old ruler in the top of the wheelie bin measure. Could yet be a mini-whumphing if it keeps going. The second half of this winter of two halves has begun. T/DP: -0.1ºC/-1ºC
  8. Sorry to hear your news and condolences, Catch & Blitzen.
  9. BOOM! Snowing in Crieff - and proper big flakes, too. 0.7C/1C Cracking!
  10. This morning's update: foul about covers it. Cauld(ish) with heavy rain. Which, to be fair, makes a change from mild with heavy rain. Truly, a dismal month so far (and I thought November was p*sh), though we did manage to eke out an ice day on Sunday 13th along with some snow. Overall, am getting flashbacks to the El Nino winters of 1982-83 and 1997-98 and their utter direness for snaw and cauld. However, perhaps some signs of hope from GP in the TOORP thread - but not until mid-Jan. Looks like we're stuck with this muck until then. Bring on the Eva! Have a Merry Crimbo, fellow kilters, and stay safe in the storms.
  11. PG Junior this morning (puzzled face): "Daddy, why is there sunshine?" In the end, 104.1mm of rain fell here in 36 hours (the monthly average for Strathallan is 92.9mm). We got off lightly though compared to many others. A couple of snaps attached of the Earn at 2.30pm yesterday. I've now released the dove to look for dry land...
  12. BOOM! Currently 2.0ºC/1ºC with occasional squally wintry showers passing through and a bit of a thaw on - for now.
  13. Wet snaw falling in Crieff from 9.30am. Flakes the size of £2 coins for a while and settling on cars. Ground is saturated. Hills to the north are white. Currently 1.2C in Comrie - the right side of marginal! First snaw of the winter! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!
  14. To add a slight touch of levity and bring this back on topic... This morning, I asked the 5 year old weathergeek of the house (aka PG junior) when he thought we would see our first proper snowfall up here. Based on absolutely no science whatsoever, he replied, "Not until after your birthday, Daddy." - which would mean after 21st January. Anyone for a 1947? ;-)>
  15. Indeedy - Beeb playing catch up once again! Dreich & 7.5ºC here just now. Tomorrow looking damp, too. Hope it clears up for Bonfire Night later on.
  16. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weatherwatchers Well, this is new - or is it? Seem to recall a similarly named network of people that existed in the pre-internet 1980s who would provide reports by telephone during episodes of severe weather in the more remote areas (i.e. much of Scotland). Good to see the idea being reinvented for the digital age by the Beeb, albeit others got there first. Still, it could save them a fortune on paying for a new weather info provider once they bin the Met Office... ;-)>
  17. An absolutely cracking morning here. First air frost of the season with an overnight low of -0.6C. This most benign autumn continues with a lovely sunny morning and fog in the glens. Makes Crieff look like the the enchanted town in the clouds. A brief venture to the MOD indicates that a pattern change is on the way, but a good few days of settled and calm conditions yet before it arrives. Enjoy.
