  1. 50.4mm of rain overnight here, per the electronic rain gauge. It's fair to say that, in these parts, this summer has been 'below average'. Or, to use the technical term, utter p*sh!
  2. A pretty raw day here. Currently sleeting with flakes of wet snaw doing their best to take over and 1.9C/1C. BST in name only!
  3. It did... Here you go. That wee blast really did merit a full on BOOM!
  4. Whumphed! > 3inches between 8pm (when it started to settle) and 9.20pm when it petered out...for now. Winter's over? My *rse it is!
  5. Still snowing here and the covering is starting to build. Temp holding at 0.4C/0C. Must admit, wasn't expecting anything much from this burst, so this is a wee bonus. PG Junior already zooming around the house shouting, "Mr Teeny's* coming back!" *Mr Teeny was what he named the ****ing enormous snowman 'we' built back in mid-Jan. Who says 4 year olds don't have a sense of irony?
  6. Wet snow on here for a couple of hours now. Not doing much other than a bare covering on the grass. Bit sleety at times, too. Very still at the moment. Currently 0.5C/0C after an overnight low of -2.8C.
  7. The blob made it through! A 5 minute, blink and you'll miss it snow flurry, which must have delivered a good 20 flakes before it chucked it. We live in hope of more snaw action this Tuesday. Another braw, crisp, cold & bright day today. Max 3.3C. Currently, 0.6C/-6C. Very dry air. 'Mon the blobs!
  8. After being stuck in a narrow band between 2C and 3C for ages and watching the snawcover gradually disappear, some lively winds overnight - bits of tree/debris scattered about the place - and a few snow grains. Somewhat p*sh northerly so far. This morning: cold, bright & crisp. 0.3/-4C. Even if there is no more snow, there might at least be some clear nights for stargazing coming up which is another wee result after the endless muck of last winter.
  9. Some snaps from Wednesday & Thursday's snowfall. 2" lying level by 9am on Thursday morning. Nice. Very slight thaw yesterday and then cold at first last night, dipping down to -4.6ºC before the cloud trundled in, giving us a sharp snow shower around half past midnight. The temperature rose through the night and the steady thaw of the lying snow is continuing. Lovely, crisp, bright day, mind. Current temperature: 3.1ºC/-2ºC Looking forward to a wee top-up over the weekend and beyond. Hmmm, also noting a slight outbreak of TOORPing in the MOD as signals of the more prolonged cold spell ahead that were 'nailded' appear a little less 'stella' today...perhaps not quite the 'BOOM' from the after all, but still several orders of magnitude better already than last winter's total mild mushfest, surely? Now, where's that ****** rodent when we need him?
  10. Heavy wet snow showers - and it's settling already. 1.2C/0C It's gonna be a whopper!
  11. Another superb double post, LS - many thanks for the update. Sounds like there will be plenty of cold and snow opportunities for all of us in this next spell. -16C progged for here for 6pm on Monday night..! Also, is that an attempt at a cheeky wee Omega Block on the Wednesday chart? Doesn't look like it is going to take hold, but if it did, this spell could become much more prolonged. Hope all went well with the Quantum Mechanics and the piping - at least it wasn't Quantum Piping - that would properly melt yer heid...
  12. More heavy snow overnight (have too busy outside enjoying the snowday with PG junior to post anything so far... ) and we ended up with almost 7 inches (17cm) of level snow. Changed to rain for a while this afternoon and the temperature rose up to 2.0ºC briefly. Now back to 0.3ºC/1ºC and was snowing again for a while before gradually turning into the 'wintry mix' type of muck. Ah well, a 24 hour mild blipette to endure now... Some snaps from this morning, including one of the new wintry addition to the family, 'Mr Teeny', the snowman - as named by 4 y.o. PG junior. If he wasn't so young, I'd think he was taking the p1sh, as Mr 'Teeny' looks like he's had a particularly fine festive season... Looking at the charts for next week, it's rinse and repeat time - with bells on. Hope that those kilters who missed out this time get a proper whumphing from the next batch. This winter is reminding me more and more of winter 2012-13 (and we could even do a bit better than that one). In the OPI we trust...
  13. Still snowing here now. We're getting a total blootering! Fab! Edit: very heavy stuff now falling - huge flakes! Only one word for it now... EPIC!
  14. About 4 inches lying on the level here and still whumphing us.
  15. It has continued to snow at will here this afternoon - with near whiteoot conditions at times - and with temperatures hovering around 0ºC, very little melt. We now have 3 inches (7.5cm) of level snow lying. The wind is getting up now - overnight could be lively. Currently 0.6ºC/1ºC. A few more snaps attached showing the heavier stuff blanking out the landscape earlier on.
