  1. We're being whumphed here - it's on and it's staying on! Already got about an inch and currently 0.4C/0C. Snowday!
  2. And bang on cue, the cold air has arrived: 1.1C/0C. Goodnight from Kilter Outpost Zebra in the Shaky Toun.
  3. LS, that was an epic double post - thank you for outlining all the options and throwing a bit of clarity on the 'forthcoming attractions' over the next wee spell (am especially hoping that the 'foot of snow for southern Perthshire becomes reality). An epic summary and hopefully some epic conditions for all fellow kilters over the next few days (and the remainder of the winter). Hats off, LS! 'Mon the snaw!
  4. Cauld rain just now...properly p1shing it down as well... 2.9C/1C - the wrong side of marginal for the moment, it would appear...
  5. Just had a short, blustery shower of wet snow. Didn't settle but looks like the trend is going the right way. Temp has fallen through the morning & currently 4.0ºC/1.5ºC 'Mon the snaw! Edit: Another, even heavier shower - mainly snaw. This bodes well for later on today & into tomorrow. 'Mon the cauld zonal pattern!
  6. Some further decent heavy snow showers through the afternoon and evening here. Was through in Crieff earlier and it's sticking more readily there than here. Snaps attached of the snow cover up at the Hydro and then further down the town at my mum's place. A bare covering in Comrie and currently 1.1ºC/0.5ºC.
  7. Heavy shower of graupel here just now & starting to lie. 2.9C/0C
  8. Blustery snow showers on and off this morning but not sticking yet. Hopefully they can keep going through the day and overnight. 3.5C/0C at the moment. PG junior is obsessed with building a snowman (thank you, Frozen!) - just wait until he gets to go sledging for the first time! Sounds a very wild morning up in Shetland - tak tent and stay safe everyone.
  9. This is an exceptional storm. The question for the Met Office is: if this doesn't merit a red warning, then what on earth does? Totally wild outside now, with random bangs and crashes as stuff gets birled around in the wind. Power cuts across much of the country as well: https://www.ssepd.co.uk/powertrack/ I hope that no one is injured in tonight's storm - please stay safe, fellow kilters.
  10. We've had a few beefy sleety showers this morning, interspersed with some good sunny spells. Feeling raw at 3.3C/2C and the hills to the north of the village have a dusting of the white stuff again. Still pretty calm...for now.
  11. Does Friday's incoming beastie have a name yet?
  12. If this is the aperitif, not sure I'm looking forward to Friday's main course: wet, very windy and mild (of course). 10.1C and not feeling remotely wintry. Foul yes, wintry no. As for tomorrow, suspect we'll see more naw than snaw, but live in hope!
  13. Happy New Year, fellow Kilters! Hope 2015 is good to all of you and brings us all plenty of snow, cold bright days and starry, frosty nights. Some snaps from last night's Flambeaux in the village. The weather was kind to us, with a pause in the rain to allow the festivities to take place. Today: mild, wet & windy. This evening's forecast: slow, improving later. Mostly Bru.
  14. Some snaps from our winter wonderland Boxing Day walk around Comrie late this afternoon. Our first ice day since December 2012 (I think): maximum of -1.3ºC after an overnight low of -4.3ºC. Weather station is showing the snow symbol - please weathergods...'mon the snow!
  15. Merry Crimbo, fellow kilters! Hope you're all having a grand time of it. A very seasonal Christmas so far. Cold, crisp and sunny for the big day yesterday and we're white with frost here for Boxing Day. Overnight low was -4.3C and we're currently at -1.6C/-2C so could be on for an ice day. Cloudier now after another lovely sunny start. Fingers crossed for some of the white stuff for all of us and in the meantime... Happy Boxing!
  16. The last foggy Christmas Day I can recall was in Glasgow in 2005 (I think). Something (anything!) other than mild mush does make the day itself a bit more special, be it snow, frost, fog or even just a bright and chilly Crimbo. Just make it something seasonal please, Santa. Otherwise...
  17. 1.6C/(DP)2C and cauld rain here now. This evening's GPS twins are definitely teasing with some tasty looking cauld stuff from Christmas onwards. Tiny step in the right direction.
  18. Only a thin slushy covering here this morning, but it's a start!
  19. The full works today: gales, thunder, rain, sleet, hail & snow. Bit of a lull and some sunshine early this afternoon, but it has pepped up again this evening: gales are back and really squally wet snow showers, too. Trying its best to lie but the temperature is still fluctuating a wee bittie high for it to lie for any amount of time. Flash of lightning, too earlier this evening. Currently 3.8C/-3C and blawing a total hoolie. The Snorce* is strong in this one... *with apologies to Star Wars fans...
  20. Just the wrong side of marginal so far - only sleet in the showers this morning. The bigger hills to the north are white though. Currently 3.1C/2C. Bring it on! Edit: And no sooner had I finished typing this, than the first big wet flakes of winter began birling from the sky! Now 3.0C/1C
  21. And now for the sensible weather report: Overnight low last night of -2.5ºC and a good frost, which persisted all day in the shade on what was a beautiful, cold, crisp, bright winter's day. Cloudier later on this afternoon and this evening. Daytime max of 1.6ºC. Chilly again just now though temperature has risen slightly to 1.8ºC. Already, this winter is better from a frosts perspective than the entirety of last winter (albeit I've moved from Embra to deepest rural Perthshire, so that might've helped, too). A snap of the frosted front lawn at my mum's place in Crieff is attached to help get us in the mood.
  22. Hello, fellow Kilters. Ends estivation. *blinks* OPwhit? Ventures into MOD... Retreats. Still too many numpties... Rummages around in the 'Huge Bag of Winter Goodies'. Finds it: Last third of December looks tasty after the opening skirmishes from this weekend. Bring it on! Proper Winter: welcome back. We have missed you!
