  2. Localized flooding in and around York, not seen too much in the way of lightning but have had thunder on and off since half 7 this morning. Not sure if this has been posted but there was a Tornado in York apparently on Wednesday. Was in the area at the time but didn't see anything.

  3. Excellent! :D I missed out on Yesterday's storms, which paid Scarborough a visit instead, so it could could be my turn today

If today's showers are anything like yesterday's, I'll be happy with that.

    Cheers, Nick :D

Hi Brian, fingers crossed for today! Shame we missed out yesterday after the potential and amount of rain. Have you seen any thunderstorms yet this year, only one ive seen was in Barcelona, not had one here in York since 2009 so heres hoping for today :drinks:

    Hope your well

  4. Hi, you stand a 50/50 chance of seeing something, your best bet will be to chill out and forget about storms for a good 4 hours or so and then have a look at the radars e.g. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ to see whats happening. These situations can be difficult to predict and to pinpoint exact locations that will see storms can be almost impossible even 6 hours away. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for the reply, ive got nw extra so im gonna be glued to the radar later, doesnt matter if the storms dont come to York ive got a car with a ful tank of diesal so im confident i will find something today, either bbc or gfs is gonna be terribly wrong, fingers crossed its bbc.

  5. Just wondering if anyone could help me to know what to look out for in the charts when it comes to thunderstorms, maybe post some classic thunderstorms from the chart archive or common sypnotics that are good for them. Got great knowledge for snow in winter just havent a clue what im looking for in the charts with t storms. Thanks

  6. I dont understand charts lol so explain what this shows and when ??????

Shows a chance of a cold start to march with north/northeasterly winds, gfs showed this on a few runs now but ecm having none of it. Fustrates me how just because GP says ecm ismore likely to come off everyone has thrown in the towel. He may be a clever guy but the weather will do as it pleases and I am certainly going to stay optimistic about another cold shot before the winters out!!

  7. Came home from York through Garrowby about 1800, very thick snow and foggy as well, with a good covering on the road. Cover as far down as Fimber, almost, so about 100m.

Never got here really, all the heavy stuff went south with a little sleet, though has just started again with some heavier stuff to the NW. 1.5c currently.

West not usually a good direction for here, heavier stuff gets to Garrowby then dies out. Mustn't grumble, they don't get our Northerly showers - not that I've seen one lately. :(

    ????????????????????????????????????????

Glad u saw some snow mate, whats with the ??????????????????????????????????

  8. Spent the afternoon in Yorkshire Wolds snow chasing, disappointing start with the prec not getting very far east, then a huge shock as i was about to call it a day the snow starting to fall and stick, then it kept getting heavier and was moderate for a good half an hour with huge 50p flakes, left a covering of 3cm within half an hour with all roads covered and quite hazardous driving conditions. Was still snowing as i came back down garrowby hill so theres probably more now. Anyone after a proper snowfix go to the top of Garrowby Hill where the wolds are at there highest (247m asl), you shall be greeted with a winter wonderland :D

  9. Woke up to a light dusting here in Keighley about 8.00am then started snowing again at 8.30 for about half an hour. Missed that on the forecast. I love to be surprised by snow, makes me happy for the rest of the day.

Yeh its always nice to be surprised. Funny how I spent all Wednesday chasing forecasted snow showers in the North York Moors yet I only saw sleet but last night I had no idea it was going to snow and I saw quite a decent snow shower :)
