  1. Heavy rain most of the morning led to a cloudy afternoon with the odd bit of brightness. Current temp: 8.4c Max Temp: 9.0c Min Temp: 5.5c Rain 13.6mm Baro: 999.2 hPa
  2. January ended up a cool dry month here, plenty of frosts and lots of foggy/cloudy days that kept the daytime temperatures down. Most notable thing about January was how dry it was with just over 50% of the average rainfall, most of that we received on the first day and last day of the month. Towards the end of the month during the period where we had slack continental flow we suffered around 5 days straight of low cloud and fog and scenes like this became the regular. Highlight of the month was Friday the 13th where in the early hours we received 2cm of wet snow. This is our only day of lying snow so far this winter. January Statistics: Temperature: Mean Temp: 3.2c (0.3c below MO 1981-2010 ave) Mean Max: 5.6c Mean Min: 0.8c Min Temp: -3.6c Max Temp: 11.2c Highest Min: 5.8c Lowest Max: 0.7c Rainfall: Total for month: 36.8mm (Average: 61mm) Wettest Day: 1st (7.4mm) Pressure: Max: 1038.00 hPa (19th) Min: 995.33 hPa (12th) Wind: Will soon be getting an anemometer installed on the chimney breast, as the current location isn't even worth recording wind speeds. Air Frosts: 14
  3. Finished on 3.2c here, 0.3 below the 1981-2010 average.
  4. Cloudy and mild start to February and a lot of rain to start the day. Current temp: 6.9c Overnight min: 5.5c Rainfall: 11.9mm Baro: 1006.0
  5. Cloudy much of the day before rain arrived this afternoon and continued into the evening. Currently 5.6c Max 5.9c Min 4.1c Rain 5.6mm Pressure 1010.0hPa
  6. Firby remains online. Despite yesterdays mean temp of 5.6c we have remained at 3.1c, 0.4c below the 1981-2010 average. We were forecast double figures today a few days ago but today's max is 5.2c so far today.
  7. Here's the big 3 for next Monday morning GFS clearly the most progressive with send the cold air westwards towards the UK. UKMO very nice with vertical WAA up towards Svalbard, what we need to see next is lower heights over central Europe to help advect that colder air towards us. ECM probably the "worst" of the 3 however cold air is marching already into eastern Europe, again lower heights over central Europe around Germany/Poland is what we are after which doesn't quite happen as the colder air starts to sink down towards SE Europe at 168 (surprise surprise). All in all not a bad set of runs as we head into the final winter month, can we hit the jackpot for snow and cold? No idea, sorry.
  8. Cloudy and mild to start the last day of January. Current temp: 4.2c Overnight min: 4.1c Rain 0.0mm Pressure : 1013.09 hPa
  9. Sunny spells to start the day however it it soon clouded over and remained that way. Currently 4.5c Max 7.2c (12.00) Min 3.9c (00.01) Rain 0.0mm Pressure 1013.9 steady
  10. No change here at 3.1c, 0.4c below the 1981-2010 average. A rise likely tomorrow as its already 7c here today after a low of 4c. Tuesday we were forecast to get to double figures however it now looks like we wont get above 6/7c. Estimating Jan finishing at 3.3c.
  11. Mildest morning for sometime here after an overnight low of 3.9c Currently 6.3c and sunny spells.
  12. After a frosty morning a cool mainly sunny day before cloud arrived in the afternoon. Max 5.0c Min 0.2c Rain 0.2mm
  13. 3.1c here to the 28th, 0.4c below the 1981-2010 average. No change likely tonight, and Monday is now looking cooler than originally forecast. Tuesday (31st) will no doubt raise the mean to finish the month however its now very likely 2017 will start on a below average month here.
  14. 3.2c here to the 26th, 0.3c below the 1981-2010 average. Another sub zero mean looking likely today so another drop tomorrow, fairly average over the weekend before much milder Mon/Tues. It will be interesting to see if the milder last 2 days of Jan will get the mean back to average.
  15. No ice day here as we didn't drop below freezing till 3am with a max of 0.7c at 1am. However not getting above freezing all day is quite impressive nonetheless and although we had no snow I did enjoy it as a weather enthusiast. Currently -1.9c with a windchill of -7c.
  16. I often visit the chat room, always been in favour in having one as its a good place to go to chat with like minded weather fanatics. Although its been mainly quiet in there I would imagine during a proper wintry spell it would get some good action, something we've not seen since the chat room has been up and running. With regards to the actual chat room itself, it doesn't need any features for me, other than being able to go in a chat, the current one is great in my opinion.
  17. Another slight drop to 3.3c here overnight, 0.2c below the 1981-2010 average. Another couple of drops likely before a return to average or just above from the weekend. Only 23mm so far this month which is quite a bit down on average, however this could jump up a bit with some rain forecast before months end.
  18. Not bad mate, weathers a bit boring with a mainly snowless winter so far, even been poor on the hills. Wondering if proper snow is even possible anymore!
  19. Hi Chris, similar forecast for here, although not sure it'll go down as an official ice as frustratingly its 2c currently and not forecast to drop below freezing until 3am.
  20. Whens that snow from? Its a shame there wasn't more widespread deep snowfall mid Jan as it could of lasted for quite sometime under this continental flow.
  21. Looking on Wunderground your station has a mean of 4.3c so far this month, I would expect this is around/slightly below average in comparison to the 1981-2010 average? We are at 3.4c to the 24th, 0.1c below the 1981-2010 average. Another few drops look likely before its set to become somewhat milder from the weekend.
  22. I noticed this, could be the first one since Jan 2013 in many places. Only problem is its not forecast to drop below freezing untill 1am here so we could have an unfortunate case of midnight tonight being the warmest temp
  23. After a sub zero mean here yesterday we are at 3.5c so far this month, bang on the 1981-2010 average. Looks likely we will see the mean drop below average over the coming days as the cold peaks on Thursday. After seeing this mornings ECM/UKMO my statement that its unlikely Jan will finish below average is looking a bit sketchy!
