  1. Looks like we could be entering a phase of northerly topplers driven by the MJO. Certainly no sign of an extended cold spell but continue to hope that SSW influences can have a snowy impact on our wee islands.
  2. Lets hope we see a lot more of this in the next few days. .. http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130124/18/384/npsh500.png Shades of December 2010 if that comes off.
  3. It would be a long way back to mild from this... http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130124/18/384/npsh500.png Need to see more support in the ensembles, but this ties in with the MJO, angular momentum expectations.
  4. What say you to the updated MJO forecast of Phase 8 at a moderate amplitude? Reading the NOAA mjo analysis they seem confident of the MJO to get to this amplitude in phase 8. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/MJO/foregfs.shtml Phase 8 can assist teleconnectally with height rises towards Greenland.
  5. Had a lovely afternoon outside clearing the snow with the neighbours. Some whom ive never even spoken to before. Given that most of the worlds Political hotspots appear to be in desert regions, my solution to world peace is snow.
  6. There is no cold evident in the model output past Saturday, because the next potential cold spell is outside the model range, so yes SM and others are correct. However, with a continued weak vortex, and more importantly a more favourable MJO becoming, colder weather may start to show its hand again over the weekend.
  7. No a Barlett can only be called a Bartlett when it has been in place for a couple of weeks at least.
  8. The latest MJO forecast only has tentative sign of the MJO creeping into phase 8 by the end of the month, I wouldn't therefore be expecting a Greenie High until the second week of February. So perhaps a week and a half of mild from Saturday until we see things changing. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/MJO/foregfs.shtml
  9. Still snowing over 15 hours since it started, I tried posting some Pics but it wouldn't let me.
  10. Who knows Snowydog. Still coming down plenty. Tomorrow morning will be fun and games.
  11. Incredible stuff. If what i can see out my window doesnt warrant an orange warning i dont know what does. Im going to need a bigger spade.
  12. Getting mullered again. This is now becoming something special. Streamers still coming.
  13. Just went out for a bracing walk. Lovely it was, will try and upload pics later. Snow starting to ease
  14. Got in at half five, cannot believe an amber warning wasnt issued. Carryduff is a car park, cars abandoned all over the shop. This is my heaviest snowfall in NI since i came here 8 years ago Still hammering down.
  15. Left early. Stück a mile outside Carryduff on Carryduff to Hillsborogh road. Gridlock.
  16. Thats what the wife said. Workers in Belfast who travel home up the hill from Forestside could be in for a long journey home.
  17. Carryduff PS closing early. A little snow in Moira. I better start walking now. Only 16 miles. :-(.
