  1. Moderate snow in Carryduff, County Down. Currently have 10cm lying snow with very icy conditions underneath.
  2. The snow in northern ireland isn't expected to be particularly heavy, but more light and persistant. Winter wonderland in Carryduff. Given the forecast for the week I expect to have lying snow for over a week, pretty much unheard of in this neck of the woods I would have thought. It's the ice that's the main problem though.
  3. I have had zero problems as well? If you do have issues like this why not PM a moderator rather than posting a dud thread.
  4. A very wintry week ahead with snow showers almost anywhere. However, particular emphasis was on this winter storm for Monday night. It's not often you see a weather forecaster looking as serious as Thomas Schafferknickers was. Very heavy flooding in the milder air, and a severe blizzard to the north. You can't help but think this will be a bad one.
  5. Snow is falling on around me............. Another pasting underway in the Castlereagh Hills. Hoping to add another 5/6cm onto my existing 11cm. All side roads are like ice rinks at the moment. Really big fluffy flakes now. Predictions are fall snow for around 3/4 hours....lovely jubbly.
  6. After much hard thought I reckon I will get tired of snow in May.
  7. Brilliant heavy snow shower this morning. I have decided that daylight snow is better than night time snow. Very, very icy here at the moment. Currently -2.9c. Sunday does look good for snow, but it is outwith my knowledge as to what will be snow and what will be sleet/rain. Perhaps The Watcher knows the score. Called Thursday night on the button.
  8. An interesting Sunday night ahead as the shortwave moves in from the Atlantic. Plenty moisture and 2m temps not bad. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn724.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn7217.png But upper air temps and thicknesses marginal for low ground. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn722.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn724.png Notice the colder air quickly moving back in, so if not snow 100%. It could be a snow, rain/sleet/snow event.
  9. Well if there was a place for snow in Ireland today, it was in my own town of Carryduff, South Belfast. Started snowing at 1am and didn't stop until 5.30 tonight. I have a lovely 12cm of snow now frozen solid. Travelling to work this morning in Dromore was chaos, three cars in ditches and one in a tree!! No injuries though. What about the Met Office failure to warn County Down though? Remember last night the warnings were only out for Antrim, Derry and Tyrone. A flash warning was issued in the early hours for Down when of course everyone was in bed. Another Meto cock up. Well done to The Watcher who called it right last night for Down in the face of the Meto. I actually e-mailed the Meto and asked why Down was not included in the warning. They replied that the front was more active than expected with colder air coming in quicker and colder than thought. They also said it was impossible to 100% predict these marginal situations. Ice on minor roads could more of a major problem tomorrow than the snow today. Currently -2.5C in the snow fields in my back garden.
  10. Good dumping here, two inches on ground and still snowing heavily.
  11. Looking at the Met Office radar it looks increasingly likely that Down will not see the white stuff. The snow appears to be moving in NE-SW direction with no movement south in the system at all. I guess this is what we need for proper snow.... http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn3481.png
  12. Crap all here yet, not expecting much tonight, a cm or two if lucky. Certainly will be snow though. Already -2.0oC, frost already formed. What I don't understand is why we aren't going to see frequent snow showers over the next few days with a northerly over a warm ocean.
  13. The 6z GFS intensified the precipitation though? A guess another let down on the cards then. Maybe get some frontal snow from the atlantic at the weekend.
  14. Still bemused by the lack of warning for snow in NI for tonight. The west coast of scotland has a warning out yet we seem to be getting just as much snow, if not more than them. Indeed, it looks a very snowy affair for NI throughout the next 6/7 days.
  15. Tonights snow showing up nicely on GFS 0z. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn244.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn243.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn242.png BBC breakfast news seemed to show snow from between 11pm and 8am for the eastern half of NI but she didn't even mention it her forecast, concentrating on england as usual. Met Office site doesn't have any warnings out so I am starting to worry a bit.
  16. Would be very surprised if it wisnae snaw the morns necht fir share. Cold upper air and good thicknesses, this is a northerly after all and nae a crap easterly.
  17. If Norn Iron can't get lying snow from frequent showers in a disturbed northerly airstream at the start of February then I'm giving up!! Here's the 18z take on it, and look at all that lovely stuff lining up south of Iceland. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn304.png
  18. I can't believe how southern england centric the main model thread has become. Here's to snaw the morn's necht in auld ecosse and norn iron, and pray fir ren fir thon english safties!
  19. South East coast looks like it's getting hammered. Is it rain or snow?
  20. Severe Blizzards in south down and armagh. I've just driven up the A1 in the worst conditions. No warnings from the met office. If the M40 between London and Birmingham had unforecast blizzards people would lose their jobs, but the main road between Belfast and Dublin, who cares. Looks very localised to south down and armagh unfortunately. Yup, passed through Hillsborough 20 minutes ago, Carnreagh Road was icy and snowy. Much much worse down towards Banbridge.
  21. Snow turned to rain about 1.30am. All gone now. Damn.
  22. Hittin the sack now, still snowing lightly before the next batch moves in. Wonder if there will be any left in the morning? Temp - - 0.1c Dew - -0.3c
