  1. Really snowing heavy now, up to 3cm in about an hour. I should be into the warmer dew points so it looks like a little altitude does the trick.
  2. I'm getting plastered now, big chunky flakes. Have around 2cm now. Temp has dropped to freezing and dew point steady at -0.4oC. An even bigger heads up for saturday night as another atlantic low pushes in, could provide even more snow. This is based on the GFS 18z run. Keep and eye on the fax charts and Met warnings.
  3. Still snowing here. A quick heads up on later this week. From Wednesday night onwards we will be in a northerly airstream with frequent snow (and they should be snow) showers pushing in, particularly on North and East coasts. More interestingly on Friday evening into Saturday a feature moves in from the Atlantic bringing a pile of precipitation with it. This feature will have milder atlantic air wrapped in it and the snow line seems to run through the middle of the Provence. Snow amounts would be very large.
  4. Click on attached link from the Met Office http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html Precipitation moving your way, should get 2-5cm from that providing it stays as snow. There will be wintry showers throughout the night as well.
  5. Heavier snow falling now, probably 1cm at the moment, all surfaces covered. Unfortunately temp is up to 0.5oC and dew point up to -0.5oC. Have a feeling it will be sleet and then rain shortly.
  6. Moderate snow now, blowing in the wind and starting to lay. Temp and Dew point have risen though. Temp - +0.3oC Dew - - 1.1oC
  7. Light snow here. Temp - -0.1oC Dew - -2.2oC I'm up in Carryduff in the Castlereagh Hills so might do a wee bit better than you lot down on the lough side and in the valley.
  8. BBC News 24 - Computer says no for eastern NI with sleet or rain (sometimes difficult to tell). Inland look really good, and plenty of snow showing up in the South East and South West of Ireland. Antrim looked good to.
  9. A few snow showers today, nothing major. Tonight looks very very marginal for snow on the east coast but you never know.
  10. Light covering of snow here this morning, temps down to -3oC, more than I was expecting overnight. Here's to the real deal this afternoon and tonight.
  11. In heavy persistent snow it don't matter how much grit goes down. Funny watching the south east grind to a halt at a wee bit snaw though.
  12. Agreed Johnny, but you never know. It will start as snow at least for maybe an hour or so. Main event for Norn Iron later in the week anyway. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn961.png Cheers SA. I'm even more convinced we'll see some decent snow showers here tomorrow afternoon, despite the Met saying no.
  13. 6pm tomorrow night even better!! http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn244.png This is actually concerning me, as the UK met reckon we will get pretty much nothing in NI on monday. Can they be wrong two years in a row? Now this it what's hard to predict. Tuesday night shows the low pushing north. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn361.png The precipitation looks great for a whiteout. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn364.png However the upper air has some less cold air wrapped up in it as shown below. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn362.png This makes things much more marginal. And by Tuesday 6pm we're back under the colder air again. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn482.png Higher ground will definetly get pasted.
  14. Here's the 18z precip chart for 6am tomorrow. Frequent heavy snow showers into east coast!! http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn124.png
  15. Do you have the link for that SnowAddict please?
  16. This free site is handy for checking for the snow showers coming in off the Irish Sea. http://www.meteogroup.co.uk/uk/home/weathe...ed_kingdom.html
  17. We have the ingredients now. The cold upper with a moisture laden front moving up tomorrow evening will engage the cold air and will fall as snow initially wherever you are. The problem is there is slightly less cold air becoming involved and as things stand we can expect the snow to turn to sleet and then rain especially the closer you are to the east coast and sea level. Further west and a bit of height may benefit. Again though it is a very marginal event and MAY stay as snow.
  18. This is a similar situation, so yes it may happen. Very difficult to forecast though.
  19. It was pretty underwhelming for me, that's for sure, as the low pushes up it brings in the warmer air from the Irish Sea, so more likely rain for me on the east coast. On the plus side there was a similar situation in January last year which produced a foot of snow for me, and was completely unforecasted by the Met.
  20. Well I am prepared for a major let down in terms of snowfall amounts. It will be snow initially however looks like quickly turning to sleet and snow along the Northern Irish sea coasts. Things are still marginal and the track of the low could still change providing colder upper air and a massive dumping. Obviously the better altitude you have the better. Towards the end of the week things look much better though.
  21. Regretibly his credibility has gone out the window like his namesake in No.10.
  22. Ehm fae Ardler ken what eh mean. Eh remember the snaw faw the echties, daes aff skael, the lot. Maybees the same this week fir Dundee.
  23. Folkestone being at sea level is more likely to be rain or sleet as the milder sector from the low pushes north. You will have snow initially tomorrow night and monday morning. The higher altitude you have the better chance of staying as snow. This is by no means saying that some low lying areas will not stay as snow as the many factors involved in producing snow could prove positive.
  24. For the North Downs at 650feet it is quit simply BINGO, BANGO, BONGO for heavy snow.
