  1. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...ings.html?day=4 Above are the weather warnings for UK and NI. If I were to use this for Ireland I would put the following Counties under Be Prepared and Be Aware. Be Prepared Dublin, Meath, Wicklow & Wexford Be Aware Louth, Kildare, Cavan, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford & Cork
  2. As the fax charts show the Isobars fairly close together this indicated the flow will be brisk enough to carry the snow over the Grampians and Sidlaws into southern Angus, Perthshire and Fife. Obviously Buchan, Moray and Aberdeenshire will do better in terms of snowfall amounts.
  3. The +120 Fax from the Met supports my above comments.
  4. http://www.met.ie/forecasts/warnings.asp Found it. Talk about no detail, that is comical in it's lack of anything.
  5. Thanks GP. Your Teleconnection forecasts have been excellent this winter, here's hoping this one is on the money.
  6. I can't find it, do you have the link? Wintry showers can mean anything, there will be prolonged areas of snow at some point, 1 hr or more for sure.
  7. I guarantee you that over the next seven days somewhere on the east coast of Scotland will record the highest snowfall in the uk and sea level. It is and always will have the greatest amount of snowfall due to its locality.
  8. Certainly does Matty. The east will get it first then shifting to the North, West and South. Strangely Ireland will do better in the longer term than the south east of england as away from the milder sectors. Have the Irish met any warmings out? do they include the Ulster counties in Norn Iron?
  9. This METchart shows why things are so good for you. Trace the Isobar through Derry all the to the bitter cold to the North East. You will definetly be under much colder air, the rest of us have to hope the trough to the south west is further east. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rukm961.gif
  10. This is as far as I am prepared to go on this run as I believe the GFS is overdoing the short waves again. Plenty of heavy snow showers into the east coast. http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn481.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn482.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn483.png http://91.121.93.17/pics/Rtavn484.png
  11. Don't worry showers will definetly get to Meath.
  12. You are actually in a ptime position later in the week as the winds turn more northerly and north easterly, you are probably best placed in the whole of the uk and Ireland along with Donegal to keep the colder upper air. Don't think it's the plane leaving will be the issue but the plane landing in London will.
  13. We don't seem to have one yet, so bring it on. Eastern counties should do very well and plenty of other areas besides. My hope is the low pressure pushing up from the south will get more and more east as time goes on which will reduce the mild sectors and hopefully give us potential snowfall for the whole week. Would a Mod pin this please.
  14. Darren Bett latest on BBC was distinctly underwhelming. After the initial snowy 24-36 hrs looks like sleet and rain.
  15. Playing the old double bluff then? I bet you've changed that by Friday. Given the volatility of the model output at the minute, you would have to be mad to post before 23.59 on 31st January.
  16. Nick, Phone the BBC, you could be their on the spot reporter in the morning. Seriously, it does look like a violent storm, keep safe and keep us updated. Don't worry about Andy Murray, straight sets victory, nae bother.
  17. Would the Pyrenees intensify the winds on the southern flank of the storm?
  18. I should also point out that Peter Gibbs also said the storm could be as bad as the one to hit southern england in October 1987. The BBC also had a storm sturge picture and a gave winds of 90mph inland. It was the main weather feature before the Uk forecast, certainly a very rare and violent picture for that part of Europe.
  19. Don't think your best placed for snow right on the north coast but you never know. Currently 3oC here also, with heavy rain and squally winds, lovely stuff.
  20. Batten down the hatches, theirs a storm comin in. Looking to see whether the storm moves further south as it interacts with the block out east. Expect early warning from the Meto tomorrow.
  21. This thread should be renamed 'what constitutes a city, and indeed who cares?'
