Winter 2022/23 - Moans, Ramps & Chat
snowspotter replied to cyclonic happiness's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Hmm you can always tell the outlook for cold is deteriorating when people have gone from saying ‘two day mild blip’ to ‘4/5 day mild blip’ to ‘snow for Xmas’ to ‘snow for boxing day’ to ‘post Christmas here comes the cold’ to ‘ new year looking good for cold’ all in the space of about a week !! The pattern is set I can’t wait for the soothsayers in the model thread to start saying mid to late January looking good for cold ……by the time we get to the weekend . Let’s face it we down here had a great cold spell for a weeks snow over . Best since 2010! So realistically what are the chances of another coming so soon …….zero I would suggest . Anyway at least it’s pleasant to go for a run now and generally get about as much as I love the snow and ice so every cloud has a silver lining . Merry Xmas ! -
Don’t know whether anyone else has found this but two nights in a row now the temperature dips well below freezing about 4pm then levels out about 6pm rising a bit . Settles at about -3c to -4c and then drops dramatically between about 6-8am ! Today for example it was -3.5c at 5:30 now it’s -6.1c! . I know it’s coldest about now but seems a bit strange to me . Nothing wrong with my weather station must be something to do with the current set up

It seriously is bad for your mental state to keep on looking constantly. I think it is actually quite depressing after a bit . You need to to detach and come away from the model thread and you feel refreshed . Agree one thing I don’t get is the hysteria for snow and not actually getting out in it at all !! Madness

Model Output Discussion - the cold has arrived

Didn't there used to be split model discussion for up to 5 days to focus on the more detailed (likely) outcomes in situations like this. I'd be more interested to hear what's happening in next 72 hours quite frankly in situations like this rather then a discussion on fantasy island charts for 8-10 days out that hardly ever verify -
Model Output Discussion - moving into Winter

Hmmm yeah if you’re that worried about a 10 chart from one model run . Personally I’m not too distraught -
Model Output Discussion - Deeper into Autumn

I really wouldn’t worry about Exeter updates . I can remember a winter when they banged on week after week about becoming much colder and snow literally for about a month and it never became cold at all . Can’t remember which winter it was -

Temperature Record Monitor Thread

I’ve got a temperature of 38.4c temperature in Reigate which is pretty close to Charlwood. Having said that Charlwood does seem to have some high returns and think one was discounted a few years ago by the met office I think -
Hmmm well sitting in garden it’s very fresh. Low here 13.3c . In my experience that’s too low a starting point for a record down here . My gut feeling is a maximum around 33c for where I am . Hot yes but no way close to what is being forecast . Just doesn’t feel like it’s gonna be a scorcher . I could be wrong but it cooler than yesterday here at present . Currently 16.3c at 7:15 am

Nice to see some settling snow down in Kent . Can anyone let me know a decent place to live down in Kent that has the benefit of being in a elevated position to benefit from getting snow in a good set up ? Will add it to my list of possible places to move to . Ideally a village not in the complete middle of nowhere .
