  1. Now't wrong with weather folk lore... For a lot of localities, it works well Lassie 23
  2. Evening iapennell Weather front sweeping across the British Isles, leaving in their wake sunshine and showers I'll take!! Its the thought of these weather fronts clearing the UK, or stalling over it giving us yet more endless days of grey... Nah. *shudders*
  3. WHAT??? Lol Seriously, as much as I'd never encourage anyone to take tablets of any sort, if I were you, go and consult with your Doctor, and then based up on where he/she says, then I'd seriously consider heading off to the chemists and getting some vitamin D tablets
  4. Evening Lassie23 That's very true, although I'll admit that I don't normally take vitamin D tablets, mainly due to the fact that I'm out doors nearly all day with my job, I had to resort to them last winter... It was just so dull, and grey... And weirdly enough I was starting to consider taking them again only yesterday for exactly the same reason... Just dull, grey, no UV light. But after another dull wet start to the day, the sun has finally made a rare appearance!! And I have to admit that I do currently feel much better and brighter in myself So I'm holding off taking any vitamin D tablets... For now. Evening Azazel I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling like that, but I can fully sympathize with how you're feeling, as the 'lighter months' this year have been a total let down for me as well... As I've said above, only yesterday I was starting to feel as I was in the depths of last winter... A bit down... Which is not normal for this time of year, so goodness knows how you're feeling... And I really hope you start to feel, at the very least, a bit brighter soon Likewise I fully understand your fear of another goodness knows how many more months of this Atlantic driven rubbish that hopefully we won't have to endure... That thought has often crossed my mind and fills me with dread also. Personally I'm quite an odd ball regarding the solstices... As much as I look forward to the clocks going back and the halloween time of year, once we get towards the end of November, I just find myself craving that bit of extra light, and I can't wait for the winter solstice to happen so it can start getting lighter... Likewise by the time we get to May I find myself wising the summer solstice would hurry up, and be over with so we can start loosing light... As I said, yes I know I'm an odd ball. Lol ... But I do understand how you feel on these dates. But seriously, here's hoping that this coming autumn/winter will be a much sunnier one for all concerned, as if the 'darker period' of the year has a reasonable amount of sunshine, then hopefully people will be out more, and hopefully lessen the awful effects of SAD. But just remember, you're not alone, and talking about these things, is always a good thing
  5. I thought I'd have a look at what the long range Canadian Cansips model is showing for this coming autumn. http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=cansips®ion=global&pkg=mslpa&runtime=2016070100&fh=2&xpos=0&ypos=216 From what I can see September looks like getting Atlantic driven westerly's, October looks like it could be quite a settled month (please don't let it be a carry on of this current gloomfest), and November looks like it could be, 'unsettled' shall we say. Now I know that many people don't rate these long range models, but personally I find that they can be useful in giving you a bit of a guide as to what MAY lie ahead As with all of these things, the weather is mother nature, and it'll do what it'll do
  6. Thanks Frost Hollow Evening Summer Blizzard I remember November 2005 and what a lovely sunny and frosty month it was Evening Karl Seconded, thirded and fourthed!! October seemed to be greyer than average (or at least around here it was), and that gave way to November... November last year was awful. I'm another one who doesn't want a repeat of autumn 2015. Evening Weather-history I agree... November last year was hideous... There were only two days that I found enjoyable... November 1st with the remains of the Halloween fog, and November the 29th, which was a lovely crisp sunny day... But the rest of November was just... well, no thank you.
  7. First things first... I haven't come on here to troll people about the clock change thingy... Personally I love it, but I know a lot of people dread it... And if you are one of those people who dread it, then hey, you have my sympathy, and I respect your decision and views. Now that's the disclaimer out of the way... By the way, if I ramble on a bit, then please bear with me... I'll get to the point eventually. ... Right... I have to be honest here, whilst I do love autumn, and I personally find the time around the clock change/halloween a particularly magical time of the year, but hey that's me... What I do dread is once we get to through to November/December/January/early February, are those days upon days, upon days, upon days of endless grey gloom. Now I've said before (think it was in the autumn thread) 'if its got to be grey, then let it be foggy, as at least the fog is atmospheric'... Again I know that many will disagree with me. To me personally, as someone who works outside, the thing with the endless grey gloom is that there is very little UV light getting through... As a glasses wearer (and my glasses are those reactolite ones) very rarely this summer have they gone dark, or even attempted to go dark, so this says to me that there is a distinct lack of UV light reaching me personally. In fact I'm feeling pretty much the same now as I did back in the depths of winter 15/16... Fed Up!! ... Last winter I found myself really looking forward to this summer because I (wrongly) thought that with the sun high enough in the sky, and it would soon burn through the grey crud... And as winter turned to spring, the amount of grey days decreased, and I did feel better... And then summer 2016 arrived... Oh dear So to me personally I'm saying this feeling is caused by a lack of UV light and vitamin D... Has anyone thought of trying Vitamin D tablets from the chemist? As I may well give that a go myself, to see if it helps, just until the endless grey gloom finally lifts. (Needles to say that the Vitamin D thought has just struck me whilst I was typing!!)
  8. Evening Summer Sun There might only be a couple of warm/hot runs, but cast your mind back a few years ago to the infamous failed easterly in the winter of ???? If my memory serves me correctly, that easterly was totally nailed on, with only one run going against it... As time wore on... Well the rest is history. The point I'm trying to make here is, although this heatwave (next Spanish Plume?) hasn't got much support at the moment it COULD well come off... Give or take a day or three either way... Don't give up hope, you're right to keep an eye on things
  9. Ok... I hope nobody minds me doing this (please accept my apologies if you do), but being as I've just been thinking about the autumn that we had back in 2012 (and getting all misty and dewy eyed in the process), I've just dug out some of the photos that I took back in autumn 2012. Autumn 2012 gave us an absolutely stunning display of autumn colours here in Wales, along with sunny days, and a few misty ones as well And hopefully these photos will give people an idea of whey personally I've love to see a repeat of autumn that year I should also point out that none of these photos have been edited in anyway, these are as they are (or were), straight from the camera.
  10. Evening Damianslaw You could have added autumn 2011 to that list as well, very dull, just the odd sunny day and mild... Very mild/hot if you include the heatwave at the end of September early October. I fully agree with you, autumn 2013 started very late (no doubt due to the cold spring that year) but it did eventually give some very stunning colours on the tree around these parts... But that didn't arrive till November... And autumn last year started off well, but started to turn into a bit of a gloomfest from October onwards (albeit with a few good foggy days at the start of the month and around Halloween)... To some extent I feel as though we are still suffering with that gloomfest that started last October!! Although I'll be honest I can't really remember much about 2009's autumn without consulting my weather records. 2008 was a nice autumn, sadly I only recall bits of autumn 2010 due to not being very well, but I do recall a sunny start to September, a 'few' overcast days in October, and a strong wind storm in November, but thats about it for that year... And the cold twist in its tail obviously Autumn 2012 on the other hand was a nice little autumn I remember September that year very well, one weekend I was at the Duxford airshow, and that day was like a summers day, I even got sun burnt!! Lol The weekend after there was a noticeable change to more seasonal conditions, it was like the dying breaths of summer, albeit sunny, and the weekend after that I remeber having to scrape the frost off my car!! I seem to remember October being a very pleasant autumn month that year as well, with many sunny days, cool(ish) nights with that dampness and that wonderful autumn smell If this autumn is like 2012 then I certainly won't complain
  11. I see that Gavs Weather Vids have done another part towards the autumn 2016 forecast - Autumn 2016 Analogues (Part One) http://www.gavsweathervids.com/ So far, and after viewing this I'd say toss a coin and shout heads and tails as to eventual outcome... But Gavin appears to be starting to side with the idea of high(er) pressure dominating this coming autumn... Fine by me
  12. Same here Snowtime. Autumn is the best season of the year... In my opinion
  13. Morning Mushy Sadly I have to agree with you, the lingering twilight season ends for me on this coming Friday, and I have seen one either this year... Sadly there has just been too much cloud about Here's hoping that next year is better for sightings
  14. Morning IanR Sadly it was the same here... So much potential... Such a ... But I shouldn't complaint, as June was quite thundery around here But having said that, I've seen many days where the MLCAPE figures are almost nil and quite a decent storm has seemingly popped up out of nowhere. So keep the faith, hopefully something good storm wise will come soon
  15. Well, being as Tuesday (just gone) gave us 2600+ Jkg of MLCAPE, along with a lifted index of -8 to -9 (according to what was forecast anyway) and all it gave this area was one poxy clap of thunder, I'll take whats forecast... It can't do any worse. Lol
  16. A blocking high in autumn is a big yes from me Sadly most people always see autumn as wind and rain, but personally I always see it as the Keatsian season of mists and mellow fruitfulness The wind and rain can be kept for the business end of the seaosn... November... Along with the first proper fogs as well. If its gonna be grey, then let it be foggy, as it least the fog is atmospheric
  17. A lot of people... Well, ok, most people condemned summer last year, but for me personally I thought it was a very good summer. Many more sunny days than this year, a pleasant cooling breeze which stopped it from getting too hot, a couple of good Spanish Plumes (which gave us good thunderstorms - Unlike this one which just gave me personally just one poxy clap of thunder ). I'm sorry but I'm starting to class summer 2016 the same as winter 2015/16 - A train wreck of thing... And personally I'd say that most of this down to this horrendous perpetual cloud cover
  18. Morning Matthew Clear sunny days, (hopefully) cool clear nights, along with possibly misty starts (and ends) to the days, heavy dews on the grass... I've always said that the light in September/October is like no other time of year... I'm getting all misty and dewy eyed thinking about it Lets hope autumn 2016 can deliver where this sad excuse for a summer has failed
  19. Just found the first Daddy Longlegs in the house this morning, always a sign of the coming season
  20. I've just been driving through one of them... Really quite potent!!
  21. We had a very heavy shower with thundery rain here about half an hour ago... But I've just seen this sky over towards the west. Sadly I doubt it'll be electrical though
  22. Whilst certainly not missing that horrendous heat and humidity of the past few days, I have to say that a few more fresh feeling sunny days would have nice instead of back to the perpetual cloud cover. *sigh*
  23. Its looking really quite 'frothy' over towards the Chester area at the moment, and heading northwards
  24. For the record, the radio is still crackling with sferics, so there are some spiky storms out there at the moment by the sounds of it
  25. Just been sorting the horses out, and this is the sky above me here... I doubt it'll do anything for us, but its all brewing up and heading northwards!! Enjoy folks
