  1. Indeed. At the end of the day, it's impossible to cater for everyone here. Really, we just have to grin and bear the negatives for a few months. It could be worse like those in more further polar orientated countries.
  2. Yes the meto have very frequently underestimated temps this year often not increasing till just near the day and then often increasing another 1-2c on the day if the sun is out. Better to underestimate and pleasantly surprise the public than vice versa though!
  3. I've switched opinion in favour of a milder winter. Notably this euro block could be very stubborn in some form. It could move north and allow Something colder but seems some like the METO look more confident in something milder. Not saying they are right but would still trust them that little more.
  4. You keep telling yourself that pretty thought.
  5. Shorts out and ready for any sunshine in the coming week. Cloudy now but very mild too!
  6. Why cant these strong euro heights ever build i9n the summer anymore? Seems to me the jet finds its summer position in winter and vice versa. Its all the wrong way round these days?
  7. Looking forward to getting the shorts back out this weekend on Sunday if its sunny. Will definitely be warm! Could push 18/19c here.
  8. Oh dear, you have much to learn. lol. I reallyy wouldnt take a blind bit of notice of them even though you say not seriously. The default winter will always alternate between something colder and milder. No surprise to see those 6 months forecasts do that. But as we are struggling to predict a week away in any time of the year, you have little hope with Metcheck's 6 motnhs forecast.
  9. I would expect you lot in the North to cope better. Certainly much better located even for snow to rain events. I enjoy all 4 seasons mostly though one thing I hate most is pointless cold that being bone chilling cold with no reward - snow. If it snows fine, im happy as it makes the landscape beautiful. However right now, snow is still a pretty unlikely event so may as well enjoy warmth especially as our climate is rather lagged due to ocean effects etc.
  10. This mornings and early afternoon was nothing short of stunning. 16c, sunny, little wind and people had the Windows right down on cars, multiple soft top roofs were down. Definitely late summer Esque. Fantastic that the weekend looks to offer more of the same. Will be reverting back to shorts for walking the dog this week.

  12. No. I'm loving it. Keeps the hell period away for longer. Unless it snows proper I don't give two hoots about winter!
  13. At the end of the day the actual daylight recieved will never change. No one will ever be satisfied. The main period of complaint in question is too near the time people go to work and come home this no one side will ever be completely happy really. I too wish the argument was ditched to be honest. No one will ever be completely happy. Besides, BST will be back around again in 5 months. Fact.
  14. Only for you lot who think Britain is in the arctic circle.
  15. I would certainly be able to give My dog the proper exercise he deserves around the woods after work. I get better exercise too. The dog hates being on his lead walked around the streets.
  16. I wish people would get rid of the quota thing out of their heads too. I.e better to have the mild stuff now rather than winter. It will last all winter if it wants to. For example we hardly had much heat to compensate the coolness this summer except the one day anomaly 1st July. The last 2 snowless winters don't Mean it will be made up for now.. Things are always changing to an extent but around our default pattern which is not entrenched cold and blizzards.
  17. Throwaway comments like this when it's just 25th October make me dispair. The silly season has arrived sadly.
  18. Wow. Might as well have been a storm of bricks!
  19. Thanks. I might be totally wrong but the way I see it is that in a normal year with the usual bout of westerlies, temperatures will average out near normal. A year with the usual westerlies but off a fair bit colder than normal sea must have some effect? Still, I am presuming winds will be coming from the west. I could be wrong although anything from the north/NE/E/SE is pretty much a given colder than normal in winter. The reason I am perhaps expecting plentiful westerlies is the fact the cold anomaly in the map seems very focused to the UK/far NW France etc. If more northerly spells were predicted (i.e with a trough located Scandinavia), I would have though the cold anomalies might have extended further south into Europe. The localised cooler anomaly around us suggests the overall pattern otherwise wouldn't suggest much majorly cold wise. The North sea isn't particularly cold and seems around normal or slightly above average when I last checked hence colder uppers might mix out more readily on there way to Germany etc. Granted the N Sea is much smaller than the Atlantic but every bit helps I suppose. Consequently, the cool anomaly over land doesn't seem that significant. What is noticeable on the WSI maps is that the cold anomaly over us isn't significantly below average (Just -0.1 to -1c really!). Even with a colder Atlantic and frequent westerlies, I would never expect a significantly colder than normal winter because it is still coming off a sea still relatively a good deal warmer than land. So just a slightly cooler of the standard winter we get?
  20. Ahh but are we dismissing it because you don't like what you see? We have all been guilty of this on the past and things have flopped a fair bit recently but the last 2 months ish have seen large amounts of blocking to our east and tonight's ECM sees a high pressure looking similar to what we had a month ago at least in Western Europe with a low towards the Azores. Not implausible. Seems silly to all of a sudden to write off the next 2 days outputs. Would You be saying the same if a colder more unsettled synoptic was showing?Hmmm.....
  21. Try geoengineering if you want to manipulate the weather. lol.
