  1. Haha unlucky. Unfortunately it has just recently clouded over here but still quite pleasant actually at 20c.

Unfortunately I think Mid Shropshire northwards has a climate much more akin to that of NW England in general. As soon as you move south and East of here then its more akin to S/SE England.

  2. Brightening up here now to woop, ended up with a low of 12c last night in the end, rather disappointing this weekend downgrading back to a cool cloudfest last minute though! Tomorrow in particular a fitting end to this month, 17c and stratomania

Looks like plenty of sunny spells to me tomorrow. Sunday for ages had been a cloudier one. Meanwhile it's very warm and sunny today here rounding off a very respectable week. :)
  3. yeah i didnt think id have much support for my grumpy post earlier.. obviously im talking from a personal pov, and botty also added two points against this weeks weather... not warm enough in the evenings for sitting out, and a couple of degrees warmer... for me its just not worked.maybe that high the gfs is currently progging for early next week might give us one last blast of warmth...

Sadly I have to disagree with you too. Lots of sun this week here. Very warm especially earlier in the week and it was defo warm enough in the evening here Monday and Tuesday. We enjoyed a BBQ on Monday evening so it certainly was good enough. And today is lovely and sunny too.
  4. Ahh it's well and truly back today! the joyous dark slate grey skies with no sign of brightness and that wonderful magic number, 17 degrees.

I'm guessing Blizzards is at 23c again by now Posted Image certainly looks like in true Midlands tradition Shropshire will be the region that doesn't brighten up today!

Annoyingly, its cloudy here today too. Pretty much the Whole West Midlands, East Wales and northern parts of the SW have struggled. 19c.

  5. I think Blizzards is a little too happy that the east has fared worst this summer. His posts seem to celebrate it - rubbing salt in the wounds, I guess you could say. That's very naughty. Posted Image

No not at all. I am very happy here as faired so well though. But there is no denying how much North Sea cloud you lot put up with though.   Yes the average year wouldnt have had such a high Easterly frequency. But this year the odds have favoured the west for a change.

  6. So around average, then? Great.

as for the updated gfs 18z, a very mobile Atlantic is seen jumping into gear, with ensemble support for cooler temps...

Yep, Id agree average wise with temperatures. Still very nice out there. Still dont see where that rainfall is coming from a 'mobile' atlantic. Would such frequent but more brief spells of rain. Doesnt look like much to me. Each to their own with interpretation though.

  7. Nowhere near as good as 2006 here, it's been nothing special save those 2 weeks in July.

June far too cool despite being dry and at times sunny, highest max 22.5 which even June 2012 bettered. Felt like a good April.

July had that spell which was better than anything since 2006, but was disappointed it didn't hit 30C when all the conditions seemed right. The month was however wetter than average here thanks to its monsoonal last 9 days, which infuriating didn't produce any overhead storms here either.

August had a cracking first 3 days, 29.5C on the 1st (would surely have hit 30 if the sun had come out before 2pm though....) then the first overhead storm since 2011 on the 3rd. All downhill then until yesterday, far too cloudy during the day and will struggle to make average sunshine now.

Overall about equal to 2005, with the best bits not as good (19th June 05)  and the worst bits not as bad (that appalling dull cold end to July 05) as that year.

I think you have vastly overstated it there.

Those last 9 days of July were not Monsoonal. It turned a little cooler in the last week but it remained very warm with some occasioanl rain. You make it out to be 2007 esque. Careful with your wording. Im amazed you never reached 30c if here almost touched 33c though I am in an urban area and in a bit od a dip so we get to trap the heat more. On the 1st August it was 30c pretty much all over the Midlands. It always seems to be except Shrewsbury. Get out of the place man!

the ECM ensembles for Glasgow illustrate the trend towards a cooler period, especially for the North. With average/below average temp values and rainfall amounts slightly above the average as we move into Sept.

Just for balance, where as the Ensembles for the southern half of the country suggest very little rainfall till at least the 5th September and apart from this weekend, temperatures in the low 20s.

  9. The sun properly came out again later this afternoon though turned surprisingly cool due to that Cheshire Gap breeze, 18/19c most of the day.

Rest of the week a bit uncertain for sunshine amounts, Friday potentially 23-25c widely across the region if that pesky front can keep cloudzilla away long enough.

Weekend looks fairly sunny and fresh now rather than the October esque misery the charts were showing before with the potential for things to warm up again into early next week, nice to see upgrades for once in what has been a disappointing month for here, though mostly due to the no mans land 17-19c days while down the road has been 22c+, it's all a very 'usable' month but certainly joining April 2011 in the Shropshire vs rest of the Midlands sunshine split.

Yep, looks dry but cooler for the weekend but still lots of warm sunshine. Just a mix of cloud and sun. Looking good into next week. This has to be the best 'useable' summer I have known of! So many dry days. Just 1 maybe 2 wet days all day as far as I can remember.

  10. I don't know why you always insist on making sweeping statements and trying to score points in your posts which are often otherwise well put-together. Sunshine averages can be very varied over quite small areas and coastal areas of the west are often as sunny if not sunnier on average than many places in the east. For instance Robin Hood Airport averages 1477 hours over the year, Blackpool averages 1566 hours. Morecambe 1507 hours. Dishforth Airfield in North Yorkshire averages 1438 hours over the year with no month reaching 200 on average. Pershore which isn't too far from Blizzards gets 1537 hours in a year.Compare to 1573 at Church Fenton. Only a couple of hours in it if you compare the sunniest month at Pershore with the sunniest month at Church Fenton and Pershore is clearly warmer.

There really isn't a lot of difference over the year between the stations in the west and the east. You picked out a particularly dull station in Coleshill- not sure about the location of the station but a lot of the stations around it are sunnier and very close to your average in Church Fenton. Sunshine is related to topography as well- the west is generally hillier but the flatter areas in the west away from high ground will compare favourably with those in the east. Church Fenton couldn't be much closer to sea level at just 8m.

Indeed, Pershore isnt a million miles away from me. Though I can trump most of you when im in Falmouth. hehe. But thats not the point. We are usually far enough West so North Sea low cloud isnt too much of a pain. The hills to the west also do a good job of holding back some cloud. Today seems to be a bit of an example of that. 23c and very sunny here despite forecasts that it would be cloudier now.
