  1. Hope it's wrong, could end up with a scenario like that of January 2nd 1976 for my area , one of the worst wind storms to date for this area....
  2. Looks like the proverbial "wishbone" effect is working really well, with the other side of the country in West Wales getting prepared for the "Pembrokeshire Dangler " starting to get organised!
  3. Yes, with high pressure forecast to build over mainland Europe ,it leaves the UK in Yuk Yuk territory. None descript weather with cloud laden south westerlies, wind ,rain especially for Northern Britain and mild ,perhaps very mild.
  4. The fact is ,this week has the potential to snow just about anywhere in the uk, but for the majority of the population, it won't, because of the lack of moisture/ fronts / instability etc. Fact is it doesn't have to be that cold to snow, it can snow a few degrees above freezing ,I've known it snow at 5c/41f ,but because the dewpoints are sub-zero that's what is needed.....
  5. Goes in cycles ,like everything in nature.
  6. Never say never. We had some lousy mild winters in the 70s /80s as well. It's only the exceptional winters people remember.
  7. UKV ,going for the Wednesday precip to be south of mainland UK ,although this models simulation of pressure precipitation is about as reliable as the weather itself, so no to snow, but with the caveat of the gfs being correct ,it can't be ignored completely. ....
  8. I'm not so sure on the rest of winter , but I think personally based on my historic experience of this situation is that the Atlantic will have more or less full control from next weekend ,at least until the end of the month ,probably going into the start of February as well.......unfortunately
  9. As I'm working on a degree for meteorology I totally get what you're saying, but I'm not one to mince my words and with all the teleconnections and so forth along with the rest of the Meteorological tools after a certain timeframe it is relative guess work, and that is not being in any way condescending. ☺
  10. Model output is so dire for coldies by day ten , that my lady Brindle has gone to sleep
  11. Well , I imagine the ten day charts have put the coldies to bed and asleep tonight, but winter still has a lot to burn , so still plenty left for winter frolicking. Although the Atlantic is coming in , I expect at least a couple or three weeks of mild wet weather, so will be looking into February before we see any sort of pattern change at the earliest Watch this space
  12. Hope the gfs is wrong ,although I half expect to be right unfortunately, one storm system after another ,we will be talking floods again ......
  13. I think the hype on the mod thread ,year in and year out is getting a little tedious. Okay it's the model thread talking about the upcoming pattern, but some of the hype is truly unbelievable, and yes it is unbelievable! ! !. But again we find ourselves if you believed the hype ,which I didn't, looking down on a forth coming week with just about normal winter weather for the UK in January. If you believed the hype than next week would have been the start of the ,coldest, snowiest ,longest spell of Winter the UK has ever endured! Thank god it was all Hype
  14. I think we have to have a balanced view of this coming weeks situation. Firstly for most ,it's a four day affair. The colder weather comes in late Sunday especially for southern uk and it's whisked pretty quickly away by early Friday for most. The lions share of the Wintry cold weather ,will be in the North of the Uk, southern Britain, remains cold but mainly dry, in fact I will say that southern parts of the uk will have felt colder last week than this coming week because of the Easterly wind. For southern Britain, the interest a few days ago was the low pressure moving north over England and Wales ,which would of produced the Wintry goods to a big population, but that threat has gone now ,so yes some wintry weather especially for Northern Britain, but looking at the charts a bit further ahead ,chances of some more wind storms and rain, which is not good news...
  15. It seems to me that you have to have the last say! That's fine by me ,☺
  16. Thank you for your response! Of course , I'm fimiliar with the Meteorological tools , but at the end of the day it's all guess work, but thanks again for your elaboration. ☺
  17. Yep, but at least they give us nice chocolate! Snow or Chocolate? Shall we set up a Poll
