  1. The way you are painting the synoptics is a bit ott . If you take the gfs 12z at face value even at T+240 ,that would be surface cold ,very cold in fact ,probably very foggy as well with ice days for many...... and at least it would allow the ground to dry out from the high rainfalls this Autumn and Winter, and releave people with the worry of flooding....
  2. Well if you look at the latest projection ,lots more heavy rain to come on Thursday, and Saturday. I think Thursdays rain will be the catalyst for some more potent flooding
  3. It's been raining more or less all the time since Saturday night here, it's Tuesday morning and it's still raining! Hopefully Ecm shows a drying out period ,at days 9 and ten! I'm not kidding if they made a reservoir the size of the Uk, this Autumn /Winter we would have filled it!
  4. Too many people despondent about the current Synoptics. A lot of people have already seen snow , many weeks before we get to the real meaty part of winter! There is lots of potential in the weeks ahead, but for now our first cold snap has delivered for many , where as some years people never see a snowflake, but have to accept a brief milder period which even happened in all the iconic winters past!
  5. Dewpoints were too high ,even though the surface was below freezing last night here . Rule of thumb for snowfall......the colder the dewpoints the greater chance of snow to fall ,even though surface temperatures are above freezing... Dewpoints , it's all about dewpoints!
  6. Whatever way you look at it, the Atlantic is going to be in full control in a few days time. Question is for how long?
  7. Wow, you lucky person! Thanks for the beautiful photos. Elan is beautiful anytime of year but with the frost and snow it's simply stunning! Will retire down your way ,fingers crossed!
  8. Love you're area. Was down the beautiful Elan valley for a week in September when we had the very warm weather early September. Love Rhayader ,stayed at the horseshoe guesthouse. Lovely place. Do you live in Rhayader?
  9. No snow but freezing cold! Looks like Winter, Feels like Winter and it is Winter
  10. The good old December Winter freeze of 2010. It was minus 10c at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at my place. Now that's what I call cold
  11. The depth of cold modelled is certainly jaw dropping to our east , something akin to later winter rather than this early on. The effects that will have on populations will have serious implications. .....
  12. Last day of Meteorological Autumn, very cold but dry……good old Alto-Cumulus Lenticular
  13. I would imagine ,given that it's Ireland that's the easiest default long range forecast there is !
  14. Yes sorry, thinking of Autumn while it should have Winter! My minds on too many things. ..☺
  15. Too add to a rather somber forum for cold lovers, Meteorological Autumn starts on Friday, that's 3 months of potential cold, but March often delivers Wintry goods too, so a whopping 16 weeks of Winter to come, relax and sit back and enoy the Winter roller coaster ride as there will be many new twists and turns.
