Uninspiring output for who?

Two things stand out this morning. 1/ A blocked pattern , so an end at least for a while of flooding issues... 2/ Potential , for outbreaks of notable cold as we move into early December. Of course ,it's a very complicated set up and models always struggle with this scenario,and details will change daily ,but that is the trend for now, but the main thing I'm glad about is the break in the relentless rains of recent months, that alone is worth a mention!☺

Well , looks very seasonal from the gfs, by the weekend and into next week. Plenty of frosts to come ,but more importantly a drying trend ,from the endless weeks of rain, great synoptics for a gentle ride into winter......!

Well just typical for the Gfs 06z, it’s now undoing the buttons as regards the phantom cold spell in true Gfs Style.

It's all very tentative at the moment, there is a strong signal for cold, but still could go horribly wrong as it's done over the years. If the gfs is correct any part of the country could see snow ,but for now it's a case of seeing how things unfold this week, impossible at this stage to put any finer details on it...

Well if it's cold you're after then the Gfs 12z is for you.....

Anyway, the old saying on here is Get the cold in first and then then we can squabble about who gets the Snnaaawww and Wintry goods

Ecm is still not interested in the Gfs amazing Christmas Switch On Synoptics..! You cannot dismiss the Almighty Ecm, To be honest as much as I like the Gfs predictions, I'm expecting a big climbdown from gfs......

Without putting to finer point on it ,gfs 12z is a cold lovers early winters dream ! What possibly go wrong! Snaaaawww ,frost and everything else wintry thrown in ,even for the south.....Will be interesting what ecm has to say , but are we on a wild goose chase or being led up the garden path, we have been here many times before, but IF these charts came off ,it would be an early Christmas presant for many.....❄

Stepped outside earlier and it felt positively balmy outside, around 14/15c ,very mild for this time of year....!

I have to say ecm and gfs at 00z could not be more different at the T+168 . Not buying into gfs evolution,or not the extreme side of it anyway, I hope I'm wrong for you cold fans out there.

With low sun minima in December, it's great for cold as we saw last year ,without super cold synoptics, but we need the jet stream to become less powerful, and move north into the Artic and then the UK is in business! The coldest Winter of 1962,63 in the UK, for 240 years happened because Greenland had one of its warmest winters ever......

Too much energy coming over the Atlantic from a powerful Jet stream , Shots of cold , that's all folks...in the next ten days....

I think that chart shows wind speed at 5,000 ft (850 mb) level, in kmh . There is jet stream charts on netweather and gfs.....☺

Jet stream is too strong being sharpened by the strong thermal gradient between the Poles and the subtropical highs , which is quite normal for this time of year ,as the Artic primes itself for The Polar Winter. We need a relaxation of the jet ,which will come , but for now any wintryness will come from temporary amplification in the Atlantic ....which the models do show, I'm looking for a fragmented jet stream which will help build high pressure to our north, but for now it's playing the waiting game ,

Really? Poor charts for deep ,long lasting cold this morning, Ecm has a similar ,chart at day ten ,as the chart looks this weekend, and gfs is flopping about like it normally does! The good news is that the relentless rains look like easing as high pressure is close by, but we are going to have to wait a while for proper winter synoptics, but that's a good thing in my opinion!
