  1. Well I hope everyone has enjoyed the snow today, Im surprised at how much snow has gone considering temps did not get much above 1c! I thought I was going to have a nice quiet night, untill we see round three brewing in the southwest approaches. Certainly looks as though its moving more or less north maybe with an "hint" of east ! Hence the met office are now changing there forecast, and it certainly looks as though a larger part of England and Wales will be seeing some more snow!
  2. Hi,Shaun. That precip in the Bristol Channel is very unlikely to get much further north as its along an occluded which stays there all day! If you look at the fax chart you will see what I mean the occluded front ive highlighted in red. The front which may bring some snow to us is that cold front highlighted in blue, you will see what I mean if you run the radar loop !
  3. Andy. a lot of the snow which has fallen ,even at low levels will not thaw today as the temps are not likely to get much above freezing. Only those who have seen snow around the M4 corridor will see a thaw of lying snow. If you have a look at this fax chart you will see that the cold front just to the north of us will be paying us a visit later today as it moves south with perhaps some more snow and then behind that cold front it turns icy and very cold with a northerly airflow.
  4. heavy snow in Evesham, and I expect Worcester the same, Whats Hereford like?
  5. we will stay in the cold sector today, very marginal allbeit. The front which has brought the snow is now grinding to a halt and will once again move south later today as another front from the north pushes everything south
  6. About 4 to 5 inches although ive not got the ruler to it yet!! Damn good covering though.
  7. No its not going to turn to rain...probably more snow later today as that snow band moves south again!
  8. Hi mate . well the only thing I can say is that anywhere from the Midlands south to Somerset will see tricky driving conditions. The worst of the snow is probably over south of that , but that snow will be making its way south later today, from the north midlands.
  9. Hi mate. If you tap into your computer "metoffice rainfall radar" you,ll have a good idea what is happening! The latest loop shows what I said before is that front is becoming stationery as it hits another cold front coming down from the north. It means two things, firstly the next few hours wont change much, so what weather you,ll have now you,ll likely keep for a while, and secondly that front will be heading south later today so more snow can be expected, enjoy!
  10. Looking at the latest radar loop, it appears to me that the precip [snow] is not going to get much above Manchester, but the Eastern side of that front is swinging quickly north/northwest, indicating the front is pivioting, and grinding to a halt and will be looking to come back south at some point today, so anyplace north of the M4 imo is likely to keep the snow they have, a slow thaw [worse case scenario, depends on your point of view!] .We have a very good covering of snow in Evesham I have not been out but I would say there is at least 4 inches if not more of the white stuff and its still snowing! An interesting day ahead I think
  11. A very cold start to the month, minus 9.2c on two nights and a couple of days did not get above freezing! and there was some lying snow which laid for nearly a week! mid month was a little milder but then it turned colder again so all in all January was a "true winters month. Highest temperature, 10.7c Monday 12th... Lowest temperature, minus 9.2c ,Tues/weds 6th and 7th max wind gust ,40mph Sat 17th Highest barometer reading, 1029.4mbs Friday 2nd lowest barometer reading 979.2mbs, Monday 19th Average day time temp..6.7c...recorded 5.6c Average night time temp...1.4c....recorded...0.5c So another month with temperatures below normal! rainfall just below average at 53.5mms ,compared to the average monthly of 62mms
  12. Hi Essan, hope youre ok, disappointed with Mondays snow, but im hoping this will be much better, potential there, we just need that precip, to be heavy and im sure we will be smiling One of my customers went up Bredon Hill today and she said there was lots of powdery snow at the top , and some deep snow drifts as well! See you up there, Best Wishes Ian.
  13. Great stuff, just shows you why "netweather" is way ahead of the rest!
  14. Met office is funded by the goverment, and so the goverment make so called "green taxes" to supposedly protect the enviroment , and of course nothing to do with lining there pockets with tax payers money!!.....  :o hence the met office have an "obligation" to plug global warming! :o
  15. Hi, well Micheal is a believer in global warming, I dont have none of it myself and I think if the right weather synoptics develop like they have there will always be snow and ice.....
  16. I think this is the area which I think will get some decent snow!!
  17. Youve missed most of it ,but the weather on in a minute!
  18. The latest 06z gfs [which in my eyes was a bad run] keeps the cold conditions right into Weds and so does the meto fax as well! You could be in line for at least 6 inches of snow, and after weds lets hope the ecm model is right and keeps the cold conditions going!
  19. Right ready boys and girls. If you look at the fax chart for Monday ,youll see ive highlighted in red the 528 dam which is the general consensus for snow at sea level, [the whole of the uk is under that!] the lines in blue are bands of snow showers which could well give a good covering to many places later on Monday and any accumulations will drift in that bitter east north east wind. The real fun and games start in the early hours of Tuesday morning with that low moving slowly north , you,ll notice with this second chart we are still under that 528 dam line ,and the area in Blue is where I expect the heaviest of the snow, perhaps up to 12 inches in some favoured spots with drifting as well. It all depends how far north and how fast that low pushes its fronts across our area. There is potential for severe wintry weather in these synoptics but the devil will be in the detail, last minute changes can make a massive difference. Thats my thoughts at the moment.... :o
  20. Yep ,remember it well and indeed it did come out of the blue! Ive got all the action on my old video camera, I shall have to look at it again, probably one of the best snowstorms ive ever seen in the Vale!
  21. Yep thats what I wrote above, and reading that forecast, now, I can see why I wrote it! I always say credit where due on good forecasting , but that forecast he gave has done him no credit whatsover. The next time people read his LRF they will not believe a word.....[ian, if you read this learn a lesson and give up your Long range forecasts, ]
  22. Went to the Beautiful Black Mountains in Wales on Sunday with my friend and had a great time! We were just at the top of Hay Bluff at nearly 2,300 ft when we had a blizzard for about 15 minutes.! Ive never been in such a "white out " and the winds were ferocious , gusting to at least 60mph ,that the snow hurt your face when you walked towards it and the wind was enough to blow you pff youre feet! Just shows you how easily it is to get trapped on a mountain[even at modest heights] and get very cold[hypothermia]...its scary and dangerous ,but fortunately for us it was only for a few minutes....its a Stunning area ,here are some of the pics.....[attachme nt=75927:PICT1241.jpg]
