  1. Yeah, a bit of cloud coming over now, but I doubt there'll be more than a light flurry, which would still be very welcome!
  2. I've noticed that they do tend to show on short-term models these days. Much less local knowledge required than used to be the case.
  3. Looks like showers beginning to head towards the Cheshire gap, but moving so slowly, it doesn't look as though they'll survive the trip this far.
  4. First serious Cheshire gap streamer of the season this morning. Persistent heavy showers, and pretty damn cold too. The usual pattern where a slackening off of the rain revealed blue skies to the South West & North East. The type of set-up that can produce a foot of snow in a few hours in the right conditions, although sadly, those conditions are far rarer than they were 30 years ago.
  5. Yes. I had to turn it on on Friday evening. With daytime temperatures little above 14c, a North facing flat becomes cold very quickly. My fix doesn't end until next Saturday, so whether I'd be so quick to do it then I'm not so sure. However, I flatly refuse to live in an uncomfortable home, and there's no comfort for me in wearing jumpers, gloves, hats etc. I'm lucky tht I can just about afford the increase, but the way everything else is shooting up, it will become a tightrope walking situation if it's a cold winter.
  6. Been tempted to put the heating on today. Not looking forward to the next few days.
  7. Had to put the living room light on for the tist time, when I got up at 6 this morning. 6-7 months more of it. Yuck!
  8. Yay! First real thunder & lightning of the year here! Had a few very distant rumbles about 1am last night, but first overhead. Seems to come out of nowhere then fizzle out. Definitely pulse type storms, if you can get 1 nearby flash you maybe o for 20 or so.
  9. Still well SW of us but have heard a few of the thud type short rumbles you only hear at night.
  10. Opinions will obviously be based on location. Here, June was predominately cool, cloudy and breezy and often wet. July, cloudy but warmer, with the obvious exception of the 2 day heatwave. August easily the best month, but even then often plagued with cloud, especially the later part, but again warm. Overall, decent, but apart from the heat, lacking anywhere near enough sunny days to qualify as any more than okay. Not to forget, not 1 single rumble of thunder throughout.
  11. Surprised to see so little, and sometimes none in the North West of Scotland & The Hebrides. I would have thought thunder was quite common in winter from heavy showers? Certainly a good North Westerly seems to always have a few strikes on the detector sites.
  12. I thought it was supposed to stay dry after the overnight stuff cleared? Radar seems to be showing a fair amount of rain heading this way from the South West.
  13. Lovely day in Blackpool. Started a bit dull and misty, but gradually brightened up, with some decent sun, if a little hazy. Felt warm at 21c with a light breeze. Hoping that the worst of tomorrow's rain can miss us. Apart from 3 hours yesterday afternoon., the weather has been as good as I could have hoped for given the general setup.
  14. Whilst I'm no fan of the extreme heat, I would never complain about summery weather in, well, summer. Just as I'm sure the army of cold fans wouldn't complain about wintry weather in winter. I'm just an ordinary person who is going away for a few days next week and is very disappointed that after weeks of working in gorgeous weather, now may have to endure poor conditions.
  15. In the meantime, what looked like a decent week next week, is quickly slipping down the toilet, especially away from the South & East.
  16. Ok, so the low that was supposed to clear on Monday, then Tuesday, now hangs around for the rest of the week like a bad stink. Pronanly won't do much except produce cloud & mirk and turn what looked like a decent week to a poor one.
  17. Only since mid July. Prior to that the weather was decidedly chilly, quite windy & dull much of the time hereabouts. The opinion of the summer has been skewed by a good last few weeks. Even then, we had a very dull and often wet week after the July heatwave. This last spell has been the only prolonged suuny and dry spell.
  18. Bit odd all around really. I mentioned the rain "splitting" last night. Looking at the radar animation, it stills seems to be flowing west in the west and east in the east, sort of stretching, but carrying on. Just looks strange.
  19. It just about properly wet the ground, but it's drying up now. Looked like there might be more on the way from the south, but the radar seems to show it dying out and even splitting a little.
  20. A little rain in the last hour or so. Nothing of note, but enough to properly wet the ground, but it's dried up again now. Looked like there might be more coming, but the radar now shows it dying out, and even splitting a little as it moves North.
