  1. Just measured my snow depth as per the MetO standard requirement at 9am and we have 120mm level snowcover in spite of some melting also taking place. An interesting couple of days ahead in terms of the slow thawing that will take place for nearly all of us. Hopefully, this is the way things do pan out as we do not really need further flooding caused by a rapid thaw.
  2. Ha ha, never say never, it is snowing once again in RG14 but the Temperature remains above freezing so I'm sure it's only delaying the inevitable.
  3. Well I'm up and at em far too early this morning but I suspect I will need to take my 9am measurement later on and treasure it. Judging by my currently above freezing Temperatures and in spite of all the SNOW on the ground, it will steadily thaw throughout most of today. Hopefully the snowcover will make it until the weekend for most and I wouldn't write off another surprise if not before then, after then some time in February. Cheers all.
  4. I'm not long from going to bed but I thought I'd re-issue fergieweathers info from earlier should you not have seen it. I would also add IMHO there is some expectation for parts of inland Devon and Cornwall to also join in the snowy fun over the coming hours. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Primary concern now uplands W Somerset and Forest of Dean. Decent break now across many central areas extending west, but potential for more to follow later behind. I'm quite hopeful situation for main urban areas (e.g. Bristol) will now be largely improving, not least given wet snow story and vehicular traffic helping to clear it in next couple of hours before it all falls quieter. Morning rush might well be fine for these areas, but story over parts of Mendips Plateau and other uplands will be far less pretty for travellers. Next major issue will be into weekend as rapid thaw, with heavy rain too, conspires to bring flooding issues. Could get pretty bad for some (again). But at least the freeze gets swept-aside very readily, so the scope of transport/services disruption of late will ease.
  5. Wow, out of bath now and hear of potenential from Ian F for yet a little bit more as we head into the overnight period. I would say I've had about a 40 to 50mm top-up so I can't argue with that. Judging by the radar animation, it is hard not to agree with Ian F's synopsis and I would add that I think parts of inland Devon and Cornwall could get in on the act before this lot fades away.
  6. Not sure about pepping up but the radar will turn PINK in general, in front of your very eyes as soon as your Temps go sub-freezing and so too, your DPs. We well, your area, more especially looks like getting a fair few CMs yet I would say. I guess, we've had an inch or so so far which has settled.
  7. Yes the green has been showing as wet snow/sleet because that was pretty much what it was. My DP went sub-freezing at approx. 6 o'clock and the snow immediately started settling on all surfaces.
  8. Ha ha, as if by magic, we turn 7 o'clock and vast parts of the radars start turning PINK as suggested. Keep your eyes on the Dew points guys n gals, I'm off for a hot bath. Marginality will start to decrease markedly over the coming couple of hours.
  9. I'm guessing we've had a top up of between a half inch to an inch now but I ain't going out to check. AT 0.3c
  10. For those not sure of where we are heading further out from the immediate situation, would do no harm in reading AWDs thoughts from earlier. http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/75698-south-westcentral-southern-england-regional-discussion-220113-00z/page__st__340#entry2558626
  11. Hi ghosty, welcome aboard. Please can you update your profile to show your location, as this will aid the forecasters whom will on occasion, look at reports coming from this thread.
  12. Now settling readily on all surfaces in Newbury, as the Dew point has now gone sub-freezing.
  13. Onto the weather...................................................................................... You will be especially unlucky should some of us folk need an umbrella tonight, as I am still expecting purely SNOW as we head into the evening session from say, 7pm onwards. Albeit, it will be something less fanciful in the coastal locations etc.
  14. I must stop doing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=PXvauXKo2hU Best keep the party atmosphere going though.
  15. Thanks, I believe you are indeed correct. I checked the latest model output and you can see the low slowly drifting Eastwards over France.
  16. Welcome aboard bubbs. Could you kindly update your profile to show your location. This will help assist the MetO and affiliated members, accurately judge the current situation.
  17. Talk about a NOWCAST. The AT remains constant at 0.8c and the DP is still 0.2c BUT the SNOW is now settling readily on car roofs and windscreen. I expect most of us, especially away from the immediate coastline, to now see a topup of snowfalls over the coming hours. GAME ON.
  18. Can anybody confirm why the Air Pressure is rising? It is IMBY at least.
  19. I still maintain that the period between roughly 7pm through to 8pm onwards, will be the time for proper SNOW and this is when the SNOW will start settling more readily.
  20. I think you've got as much chance as the rest of us right now Julian. Worringly the Barometer continues to rise and the wet snowy mess is slowly washing bits of the roofs and roads. Once this lot clears, whenever that is, it could be proper icy out there. Currently AT 0.8c, DP 0.2c, winds from the ENE.
