  1. Didn't fancy correcting the "there grammer" part then?
  2. Hi Richie, I think you need to email your prediction to the address above!
  3. Hardly watch BBC forecasts any more, caught one the other day and saw they STILL haven't improved those abysmal graphics. The ITV ones are far better, at least you can easily tell the difference between clear/cloudy/fog/snow.

    Tour 4

*waves* Fellow tour 4 driver here.
  5. Good to see you back out Martin, fingers crossed it'll be more lively than last year!
  6. We really would end up in the s***!
  7. The lead car is being fitted with one of these! :D
  8. Where in the states were you living?
  9. My first year based out of Denver, can't wait! Also, hello Tour 3 folks, I shall be one of your drivers!
  10. It's not the model. Snow depth charts from the EC have to be derived from the data it does run. So any snow depth charts are built in house using their own algorithm. We have our own too. The problem is, theirs is rubbish.
  11. That's not too farfetched, but a broken clock is right twice a day. But take for example southern Scotland. The ENTIRE EC RUN only has 10-15mm of precipitation. Yet on that chart it's got 15-20 INCHES of snow on the ground! Even assuming all that 10 days of precip falls as snow AND settles AND lasts the 10 days, it's still a tall ask. Unfortunately I'm not able to post EC charts, we would have to pay a hefty licence fee to do so.
  12. Usual rant from me, these "snow depth charts" are in no way indicative of what the EC is actually showing. The algorithms in them are hyped up purely for clickbait, that's the only explanation I can think of. Edit: Just noticed that foot and a half of snow near Dublin, yeah alright
  13. What do you mean by last time ever, Ollie? You packing it in??
  14. Please, can we just drop it? If you disagree that a particular post should be in here, either report it or PM one of us.
  15. It's the model thread. If someone is talking about the models. We're all good. However, posts discussing whether someone should be posting here or not are not allowed.
  16. Another wretched performance from models regarding cloud cover last night. Another classic from the UKV... I hope everyone enjoys their crystal clear, sunny start Cannot wait to get rid of this garbage. I'd even take an unsettled southwesterly right now.
  17. Not at all! As my job primarily involves forecasting road temperatures, the hopelessness of the models in correctly predicting cloud amounts the last few days has left me somewhat stressed ha. I posted a chart from the Met Office UKV model in the winter moans thread yesterday to illustrate just how bad it's been.
  18. I think there's a fundamental lack of understanding regarding the capabilities of models if you can't see the difference between forecasting low level cloud on a local scale, compared to longer term, broader patterns. They're worlds apart, and just because it's immensely difficult to accurately predict cloud cover does not mean the models or forecasters are clueless.
  19. To be fair, the GFS did have some patchy cloud over London. We don't usually pay too much attention to the GFS for cloud forecasting but on this occasion it's certainly no worse than the rest.
  20. GFS is utterly dreadful at cloud, particularly low cloud which it pretty much doesn't believe in. EC is decent, UKV usually is too. Euro4 tends to go overboard but even that during this spell doesn't have enough. Considering that cloud is the biggest influence on road temperatures, forecasting for the council gritting teams has been a challenge!
  21. I suspect all forecasting services (ours included!) will be doing similar. Been made to look rather silly the last day or two, mainly because models are refusing to even acknowledge the existence of this cloud. I thought they ingested satellite data but it's clearly not working!
  22. The UKV model has been utterly useless, sadly. All models have been but this is pretty special. This is what the skies should be like now apparently, gin clear for everyone...
  23. One thing that may have gone unnoticed is how appalling the models have done regarding cloud amounts over the last 24 hours. I was looking forward to a cold, frosty week but nope, can't even muster that. Not only that, but the unexpected cloud has utterly ruined my roads forecasts
  24. My last flight with Virgin Atlantic was far better than the misery BA serve up. The food was actually enjoyable and the plane was from this century.
  25. "Posts likely to lead the thread off on an entirely off topic tangent are not ok. For example (but not solely limited to): Posts entirely or mainly about Met Office, BBC or media forecasts with little or no model context, and posts solely asking for a weather forecast in a specific location." For most, the bit in bold is an easy instruction to follow. But for those who insist on ignoring it, your posts will continue to be removed.
