  1. My thoughts exactly! I am just trying to get my head around the synoptics that would cause snow from 6-9am then sleet from 3-6pm followed by snow from 9pm. I do realise that this will not happen exactly as generated by a computer forecast. What I am trying to understand what is causing the sleet to occur... Gosh im not even making sense to myself!
  2. Morning Plum... With regards to meto for Monday. Im not very good at all the chart malarky, but from what I can make out from my local meto forecast there does seem to be marginality. Yesterday was an all snow event which was arriving later and prolonged through the night. This morning it seems to have swung to light snow and sleet showers starting at 6am. Is there a warm sector or is this due to something else?
  3. That would be wonderful! I have however noticed that for my area meto have changed from light/heavy snow showers to light snow and sleet for Monday. The length of time (for snowfall) has been shortened and it seems to have brought the timing forward as well.
  4. The prospect for all this snow from fronts is great.... but my ears pricked up when I read the words "convective easterly" in the mod thread. My favorite weather type in the world!
  5. I nearly spat me whiskey on the screen..... NO.. (no offence yammers I do love ya), my hubby is the coordinator for footway gritting. I know if he has his crews on standby there will be lying snow in central London. John Pike where are you! I neeeed to see whats up with the fax reports!
  6. Far more poetic than reality. I really do feel for the guys that drive the quad bikes... what with having to fight off the riff raff stumbling out of pubs and clubs , whilst dressed in thermal suites, ski masks with goggles to complete the ensemble.
  7. My husband does gritting for Central London. They have to callibrate the machinery. Depending on how many grams per square inch has to be laid down. Hope that helps.
  8. Sorry guys, I am on my phone and not near a telly. Did the BBC include London and South west London? Im in Epsom.
  9. Same for me. Changed from rain, to sleet to snow, now nothing. Just dry and chilly. I do know that those online forecasts change far to often.
  10. I have no where near as much knowledge as some (heck most on here), but I have been a member here since 2008 and before that I was a mod on a popular american weather forum in the USA, when I lived in Florida. I just have to say, I have never seen such volatile model out put. Enough to completely do your head in. I shall be sticking with JP's fax reports. Have a fantastic day all.
  11. Am having an awful time trying to post from my phone. John would thst strong flow not trigger showers or hope above all hopes a streamer?
  12. Happy Birthday JP! Thanks so much for doing the fax charts and of course the nightly ramp. Much appreciated. So sad... my blinking weather station just will not work. Wonder if I can ask hubby for an early birthday prezzie? Have a great day fellow southerners.
  13. Yammers! So good to have you back here. Now I can go to sleep knowing that we will get buried in 10 ft drifts. Happy New year to all, by the way. Here's to a snowy start. Cheers

  15. http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2649957 YAY me too! I have not clue if it is relevant to our area, but fergie commented in the sw region thread about ignoring raw output?
  16. ooo Meto have a little snow symbol for me on wed at 12 midday! Changed from sleet on Thursday to snow on Wed. A little bit happier now. Just hope it actually comes to fruition! Have a great day peeps.xx
  17. Well tinybill, I work with the footway gritters for red routes in central London. We are given daily emails (red, amber or green), our info comes directly from the met office. Sometimes the snow just pops up on very short notice, but generally we do get fair warning and the council always gives us the go ahead if the situation arises for gritting. Bear in mind in can cost London THOUSANDS and I mean in the hundreds of thousands to do a full gritt! The councils do the best they can with the budget they have been given.
  18. At least strippers get paid! Sorry could not resist that one Marie! It is impossible to stay out of that thread, hand over heart. I am a model weather addict. I do think we have some hope at some snow sooner or later. That Northern blocking may move about a bit, but it sure beats last year when there was nothing remotely interesting in FI let alone in a few days time.
  19. You and me both hun. I have checked every online forecast and not one has snow for me. yes I know they are based of the GFS, maybe I should rename that Good For Smoking
  20. I actually get nervous when I see such fantastic charts that far off, I just cant help thinking it can only downgrade from there! Do hope I am wrong! I shall just keep reading the fantastic posts from GP and keep thinking positive thoughts.
  21. BRRRR -0.1c this morning. Not a happy camper, my boiler is on the fritz. Not the most pleasant of mornings to be freezing inside my house. Good news, it is Friday, it is pay day, it is not raining and I am off to find me crimbo tree . Have a super day all
