  1. Been snowing heavier for last half hour. Snow has started to settle on more favourable surfaces. Temp down to 0.5c
  2. It literally has not stopped snowing for 6 and a half hours. Where’s that in the Met forecasts?
  3. Personally I think we’ll see snow till lunchtime, then rain till teatime, then back to snow for a short time. A mess of an event.
  4. At least they got the ‘little more in the way of cloud’ bit right!
  5. We’re already double what the Met have progged for the maxima with offshore winds. Doesn’t bode well really. Temps are supposed to drop. I guess they will do naturally when heavier PPN moves over us during the day via evaporative cooling. Air is very dry too for the moment. It’ll get messier as the drier air is mixed out later.
  6. Should probably be glad the precip isn’t reaching the ground. It’s 4.0C. Would just soak everywhere
  7. If it’s any consolation, this system is about 200 miles further north than what the Met Office had in their forecast yesterday. They’re not always right, I guess.
  8. Yeah it is, it was only yesterday that it said widely 10cm was expected. That’s a downgrade, big time.
  9. Met office updated warning has downplayed the event from a high impact, to a medium and specifically mentions NW England cities, citing it will turn to rain after very limited accumulations. The only meaningful snow away from hills being in Yorkshire, according to the update.
  10. Morning all. I’m not really looking forward to colder weather. I was looking for a relief on the wallet from the relentless gas top ups. Been unable to put washing on the line outside, we don’t have a drier and our house is regularly just as cold as outside (it is properly insulated). Got loads of crops planned for sowing this year too, and it looks as though it’s going to be a late start. Last year was a poor growing season, so I was hoping it was going to be better this year. Will it snow? I mean we struggle in the heart of winter when solar input is minimum, when uppers are colder and airstreams are more potent. That said, statistically, you’re more likely to see snow at Easter than you are at Christmas. Hopefully the cold is just a blip and it’s not a rinse; reload and repeat scenario. Our weather seems to easily get stuck in a rut the past few years. It needs to break and revert at some point. When was the last time we had a sunny high?! Even summer struggled! I’m waiting to sort out the garden, it needs to be completely re-turfed as the rain and dogs have ruined it. Can’t do that when it’s like a bog
  11. Morning all, Really watching the models closely and reading the model output thread often. I’m really into my gardening, and a lot of my seeds can be sown in the greenhouse in the next couple of weeks, but obviously there’s no point if there’s a cold spell on the way. Typically, I thought this might be the case. Another mild winter followed by a cold spring. Still 50/50 on whether it’ll come off though I suppose, but now there’s talk of a second warming in the strat, so chances of a colder April also increasing? Been really mild and nice here the last few days. Hoping that can continue. Hit 15C yesterday.
  12. Weather forecasts have been consistently wrong for the last 3 days. Cloud has been forecast all day, instead we’ve had clear blue skies. Same as today. Lovely stuff. Cold at night though, had a frost every night this week so far. No cold on the horizon, let’s keep it that way. Last thing we want is cool easterlies popping up in April, delaying plants and peoples doses of vitamin D intake.

  14. Afternoon all. The February sunshine certainly is starting to feel like it’s got a slight bit of warmth behind it. It’s oh so uplifting, refreshing and welcome. Spring truly is around the corner now, just 3 weeks of yet another poor winter left. 3 weeks to think about what plants I’m gonna be growing this year and what needs doing to the garden. Really hoping that this ‘winter’ doesn’t have a sting in its tail, and it can loosen its dross grip without a fight. Time will tell. For now, some blue skies and frosts to look forward to.
  15. Always worries me when we get a calm winter. Are we gonna get a disgusting, unsettled summer? Where’s the low pressure storms, the frost, the snow? The hailstone?! We’re just sat in ‘meh land’. As I’ve said a few days ago, I’m ready for spring now. I’ve had enough of endless grey skies and drizzle.
  16. There’s a real feel of spring in the air now. This high pressure system is really pressing the ‘go away winter’ buttons. I don’t really want the SSW to happen, it’ll just result in a cold spring, and that’s the time when I start to look for warmth. Ideally warm days and cool nights, love it.
  17. -3.8C was the low last night. Really exceptional to keep hitting these low minimums for my location. Was hoping that the high pressure would bring some sunshine with it, but looks like a lot of cloud trapped in it.
  18. What a gloriously, sunny day. That sun has some real strength to it now. It’s lovely 7.5C
  19. Temp absolutely shot up from 3C to 5.5C. All remaining snow melting fast.
  20. Grauple shower passing through. 1-2cm on cars and paths this morning. Not so much on the grass weirdly. Temp 1C now so it’ll start melting quickly soon. But that’s the 3rd morning I’ve woken up to a snow this winter. A real rarity.
  21. Big boy shower approaching! Slow moving and not marginal. Temp firmly below 0C. Massive difference there between Liverpool Airport (+3C) and Manchester Airport (-3C).
