  1. Not warm enough but definitely ok rain wise as we've avoided the constant downpours of last year. A few sunny days early month but then endless low cloud off the North Sea. Nasty depression festered over my wedding weekend - we were lucky to only get gale force winds during the event with heavy rain falling during the setup and overnight (not good for those who chose to camp though!). Overall- the short good weather periods fell at wrong time, generally not warm enough with cold winds and far too cloudy. As a plus it did well for not being wet. Garden is looking far better than this time 12 months ago so must have been sunnier/warmer than last June. 5/10.
  2. Well nothing at all to smile about for this weekends weather. A real, albeit expected, disappointment. I can only but hope it doesn't lash it down all day as it will make our plans next to impossible. Either way everyone will be shivering during the outdoor portions and will cram into the marquee which simply won't be big enough (until we sit for dinner). Knew I should have got married in any country but this one - even Iceland would be a better choice!
  3. Today is nice yes - tomorrow looks good too. Downhill for the weekend typically. Bah.
  4. Yes it looks like this weekend is the one to avoid out of all the weather for the two weeks surrounding it. You couldn't make it up could you! Knew I should have got married in a warmer, drier country - which at the moment is the majority of the northern hemisphere! bah.
  5. The low is looking less deep with less rain/wind on the 06Z compared to the dire 00Z so perhaps a sign of improvement. Don't think I've ever followed the models so closely!
  6. I would argue 'vile' for the outlook when it hits your outdoor based wedding day! So far models showing the frontal rain passing through in early hours of Sat clearing to sunshine & showers. This would be fine for our day - we're happy with dramatic skies, sunshine & odd shower. Its the manky frontal stuff we don't want! Of course, knowing how awful our weather frequently is especially in summer & especially in Buxton we were prepared with wellies/umbrellas to deal with showers. Constant frontal rain would make it very cramped & unpleasant in the marquee in the afternoon part though so fingers crossed it stays away from the afternoon/early evening period.
  7. NOT what I want to see! Couldn't make it up given what's coming this week (whilst I'll be either still at work or frantically working indoors getting things ready!) Really come on weather I've been nice to you over years no play nice with me! arrreggggg
  8. All I can say is someone save my wedding on the 22nd in Buxton! It's based on a farm with a fairly significant outdoor element and the models are beginning to scare the hell out of me now! Dry is priority, warmth & sun after that. I know how bad things can get up there even more so in this current naffness. Fingers, toes, elbows and everything else crossed...
  9. 20c these days feels like a heatwave even here! Think we've only gone over that 4-5 times this year. We don't live in good times weatherwise sadly. The glory of 2006 seems so long ago.
  10. Weather patterns have indeed changed - and much for the worse! This past 12 months especially has hit wildlife, gardeners, retail, tourist attractions and farming hard - right when we don't need it! Although I do like snow in winter I'd much rather we could revert to the mild winter/hot summer pattern than this constant cool/cold. Its miserable and only gas companies & slugs benefit! *runs and hides from the winter fans*
  11. A cheery thought there mushy! Even last year I got a few good sunny & warm days in the Lake District (of all places) and a bbq where I could sit out in shorts till 10pm. Admittedly I was lucky enough to time those events well with the only decent weather but still - we'll see at least something decent at some point even if only briefly. This year has been worse than last for maximums & averages - still my yearly max it 22.1c. Very poor indeed and by far the latest I've had such a low max for in my years of recording (since April 2006). All I'm looking for as a priority is something not horrendous and preferably decent on the 22nd of this month in Buxton. A tall order I know but I live in hope...
  12. Mostly cloudy but with some sunny spells. A stiff wind. Warm & humid though with max of 21.2c so far - the warmest this month and not far off the current year max of 22.1c (May 7th).
  13. With winds coming in from the north-east off that cold North Sea... So chilly & gray would be order again - so no thanks!
  14. Yes and its really lovely! Got to have my window open downstairs for a while (a real treat!) - nicely warmed & humidified the house. And no heating needed at last! Midnight and still almost 16c - much much better for the garden and for pleasant evenings. Got a good deal of sunshine this evening too - a vast improvement on the chilly, cloudy conditions of recent days.
  15. Yeah the whole point of bbqs is to have the chance to be outside for the things you're forced to do indoors most of the time. The summer/warm season is so short here that people tend to leap at the chance when it comes along. It's a change from the norm. It's like wearing summer clothes, keeping the door open for air or just sitting outside to read - a nice change from the same four walls and in this country a rare treat indeed. Life would be very dull, isolating and depressing if we all had to lock ourselves away indoors with window/doors/curtains closed the whole time.
  16. Amen to that - sick of the gloom & chill it brings!
  17. Much like all of yesterday - cloudy with a nippy breeze. 13.8c after 11.5c low.
  18. Sadly I receive no sunlight into my house nor the half of the yard not covered in plants after 12:30 or so. If it clears at 1 the plants can enjoy it (good!) but it'll do nothing to warm it up for a bbq other than lift ambient air temps. Of course that will help but I really wanted the sun to 'charge' the house/tiles/brickwork in the morning so it felt warmer out. It's that re-radiative effect that often makes it feel warmer outside in the evenings than inside! We'll still do the bbq but yes think the cardigans will be out! Loads of folks in town in shorts/little skirts looking awfully chilly! 14.9c....
  19. A cloudfest here - that vile low cloud has increased. Will give up on the bbq idea. This 'sunny' spell has not really been good enough round here with only 50% of the days being properly sunny. Nor has it been warm enough. Time for a change now!
  20. It is now well broken here but a chilly breeze on so anytime the sun does go it certainly doesn't feel warm! Think the bbq will be an eat and head inside job I feel...
  21. Mostly cloudy but bright - really really need it to clear now if I'm going to get the chance of a bbq later or the yard won't be warm enough! Getting tempted to fill that damn North Sea in with concrete!
  22. Yeah horrid chart that- gimme the goods! (actually could the goods wait for weekend 22nd pleasssse!)
  23. Yes a change of wind direction to southerly rather than easterly will really help temperatures in this area and those to the east of here where the cold North Sea has really kept things on the cool side.
  24. Yes apart from Wednesday I'm having to keep a close eye on plant watering as its drying out extremely quickly! And compared to last year we're light years ahead in growth... (assuming plants can grow in terms of 'light years'... hmmm...). Only concern is tomatoes/peppers don't like the chilly nights so probably won't fruit a great deal until it warms up a bit.
