  1. Thanks for keeping us up dated Ian, it's much appreciated. Well it's looking like were not going to be seeing anything significant here in the south west during this cold spell. The odd shower is better than nothing though as Ian said, I'm just going to be enjoying the very cold conditions for the time being and keeping an eye on the radar as these showers can pop up out of no where. I can't think of a better way of spending an evening lamppost watching in front of the roaring open fire
  2. Very well said Ian, people are always far to fast to blame. BBC/MO have done really well so far this winter, predicting with accuracy the snow in the SE, snow in SC and this snow event. People also need to realise that a MO warning is simply that and not a sure sign that you will receive those conditions.
  3. Thanks Ian, very informative post and hopefully bring back some reality after all the ramping I've just been reading on the general model thread with people reading into the ECM 240 what the hell is all that about!
  4. Still raining here, temps climbed quickly from -4 to -0.5 but have held for a while now. Roads are pure ice now with the rain falling on frozen ground, cars now unable to climb the small slope out of the village.
  5. I just stepped outside after that freezing rain and it's like an ice rink now, really bad and the air ambulance just flew over and can hear it hovering near by, roads must be awful. Temps still holding at -3 and a few more showers just approaching from my south.
  6. Morning, Well it's -3.1 here in north Dorset with a heavy frost and a heavy shower of freezing rain Think the upper temps are just a little to warm for us down here today. Going to be interesting on the roads though.
  7. Really glad I didn't go on a chase this afternoon, Would of been gutted after a 2 hour drive but tbh it could of gone either way. Still no thunderstorms so far this year apart from some distant rummbles so if things develop through the evening I'll be straight in the van.
  8. Think I'm going to wait awhile before I start to chase with these storms drifting through Dorset. Seems to be some intense stormes leaving NW France at the moment and may be heading my way and there don't seem to be much electrical stiff out to my east at the moment. I'm staying put for now
  9. Indeed dogs, very heavy rain it the moment with constant thunder in the distance getting closer
  10. Yep I'm hearing thunder from these and its getting very dark again.
  11. Can hear rummbles of thunder coming from these heavy showers around Dorset, I may not even need to chase yet
  12. Looking at the NW lightning detector overlay it seems to be kicking off around Oxford.
  13. Nice one Coast, looks like some good views out over the IOW etc from there and only an hour or so drive
  14. Cheers Coast, gives me some idea of which direction to roughly head in. I thing Portsmouth might be a good bet, anyone got any better ideas?
  15. Yeah just had some very heavy rain here in Dorset with the odd flash and rumble but nothing showing on the detectors, just had a nightmare drive with roads flooded etc. Looking very nasty over north France and heading towards IOW/Southhampton maybe? Only an hour or so away from me so thinking about going on a bit of a chase but need to hold off untill the last minute as I have no internet radar once I leave the house
  16. Metoffice update for the southcoast. lightning detector picking up some strike's from the heavy pulses of rain off to the southwest.
  17. LOL dry here but not for long I dont think, got some hefty showers heading my way by the looks of things <_<
  18. Reading through todays posts looking to see what conditions are like in other areas! Silly me
  19. May have to make a 10min drive down to weymouth in a while with my camera to see whats about  Kev
  20. My god what is it with knit picking on this forum!!!! I think its good to know when potential convective weather is making landfall and what conditions they are giving. Can hear rubbling to my south but maybe the army tanks on the ranges at Lulworth in which case I shouldn't really be mentioning that in this thread as tanks are not convective but its hard to tell the difference Lightning detector picking up some strikes in the english channel.
  21. Raining now in north Dorset and 21c. Nothing else much happening, just dull and wet
  22. Temp has droped from 1.8 to 0.5 in the last hour but feel it's to little to late as after 10mins of snow it looks like the last of the precip, unless the precip that is north of us starts to sink south. Wind sounds like it's getting stronger.
  23. Temps started to drop in north Dorset to 3.4c Pressure down to 964.6hpa and the weather station has gone into storm mode with flashing symbles and alarming now and again. Still steady rain and not expecting much else, maybe a little sleet during the night on the back edge but won't be doing a long night shift of lampost watching <_<
  24. Well what a day, heavy snow about 11am then I left to pick the other half up from work at 12 After 20min of driving through thick snow the traffic finally ground to a hault on the A35 at puddletown and thats where I stayed for the next 3 hours, watching the heavy snow build up around me while the trucks were straighned out and the fallen tree removed. The whole time my mobile failed whenever trying to call anyone including a very unhappy missus Is this a usuall thing in heavy snow???????? After fighting through all the traffic got home about half 5, thats an hour drive that took over 5 Was hard going but sat here thinking about it I think I loved every minute    It's safe to say Iv'e got the bug
