  1. Exactly, yesterday evening there were list of closed schools being red out on 2CR and we have not had a flake, that was due to the major alert given by the Met Office yesterday. Still plenty of time yet as this cold spell don't look like letting up soon.
  2. I feel your pain mate, the last 24 hours has been a complete nightmare for Dorset
  3. Cheers Iceberg, been waiting for your input. Been studying the NW radar all night since our massive downgrade and I agree, looks like if this arcs as much as it looks like it might we may have a slight chance of all that ppn coming right down on top of us and that ppn is increasing quite a lot.
  4. I know what you mean, it's disappointing after all the hype!!! I'm just glad I kept my feet on the ground and didn't get my hopes up. Just stick to the radar, there maybe slight changes for us, we know how fast things can changes. Hope the rest of you guys get a good pasting even if we don't. Kev.
  5. Thanks Ian, Your post is much appreciated especially at this busy time, I don't know how you do it!!! It's sounding like I may be close to the main event tonight and it's sounding like a special one
  6. Thats good to hear, don't think it's going to be long, keep your eyes open Temp -2.2c from -10.2 during the night.
  7. Just do what I did and move just up the road to higher ground, think were going to be aright. Current temp -2.8c
  8. Now -8.4c and still falling. think we will beat my -9.5c I recorded this morning.
  9. Thanks for the great input tonight Ian. I agree with the icy conditions are going to be a problem before the snow. my temp sensor is 6ft off the ground and is picking up a very cold -8.3c and the weather station is showing snow Dread to think what the temp is going to be come thee morning :) :cold: Take care everyone.
  10. Well I'm keeping my feet on the ground and getting my hopes up but one hell of an upgrade for 1 run and the other models starting to agree it's looking good at the mo. If the charts are still looking the same in the morning I'll be going out to stock up! tinned and frozen food, logs and coal for the fire, top up the electric key and a big shovel WOW just hit -5.0c already and it's not even half five yet, will I break my record of -9.1c I got last night.
  11. Current temp here is -9.1c :cold: Hope everyone has a safe trip back to work today.
  12. Ha yeah I used to live in Dorchester and work in Weymouth, phoning work saying I'll not be able to make it in used to get an interesting response lol. I live just west of Blandford now, near Bulbarrow so yes slightly better chances than I used to have. Just before Christmas when we had that light dusting I couldn't even get up the hill and had to go the long way around. I'm trying to invest in a 4X4 but I need to sell my car first.
  13. Yeah I think it's the Ridgeway that kills it for you in a good northerly, the snow line usually stops about Dorchster. But like you say it's a little different this time and were not just relying on this front coming from the north. Hopefully I'm in a good location being faraway enough from the coast and a bit of elevation, we tend to do quite well when Dorchester/Weymouth just get the slushy stuff. Kev.
  14. Thanks Iceberg for the very informative and helpful post Even I managed to understand most of that and the fact it had a lot of reference to my area (I'm selfish too). Lets keep our fingers crossed for for Tue/Wed poss Thurs. current temp -0.5c from an over night low -7.2c.
  15. I'll second that, I enjoy reading Ian's contribution to the forum and value his input more than anyone else's in the model discussion thread. I feel there should be a little more respect for people with high expertise in this field as it would be such a shame to lose the likes of Ian due to a minority. Kev.
  16. Well current temp here now has just hit -7.0c. Coldest so far this year, even have frost on the inside of the hallway Window (not a heated room) not had that before Still keeping my eye on this front out the the SW, seems to be getting close, be it very slowly. Best I stock up on the coal tomorrow me thinks.
  17. WOW, I love snow but this sounds dodgy, I live in a small village in a valley, the 2" we had last Feb ment I couldn't get out the village until it melted Anyone wanna swap a mint Mk2 Golf for a 4x4 :)
  18. Yeah I'll be watching but like Lynxus said it does look as it's going to be pushed away and it's not been forecast to be any kind of threat. Current temp -5.3c
  19. Yeah been keeping my eye on it, very slow but it's moving towards us, can see it well on sat24 http://www.sat24.com/Region.aspx?country=gb&sat=ir&type=loop
  20. Looking like another sharp frost here tonight, Roads are going to be a nightmare again in the morning, several main roads in the area were closed this morning due to ice/accidents. I had to go out at 3pm and they were still awful. Currently -4.8c and falling
  21. Nice one Ian, I do try to give my novice take on things and enjoy reading your informative take on things to come, some of what I report may be in FI but only if there is good agreement of the models. I think, like you say, we have some really interesting weather approaching in the coming days (possible weeks) and a lot down to now casting and radar watching. Cheers Kev.
  22. Cheers Ian, Well it's looking like we could have a dusting of snow come Tue/Wed but it's really looking good for some significant snow through the second half of the week looking at the ECM showing a lovely easterly bringing some longer periods of snow at first to the SE but then extending towards the SW. We are still seeing some stunning runs this morning and now we have the cold we just have to wait for the snow to arrive. In the mean time just enjoy the lovely crisp cold sunshine. Current temp 2.1 and steady.
  23. Cheers Ian, even looking like we could see a light shower here in Dorset from that grab. Currant temp is -3.3 and falling.
