  1. That sounds like a very IMBY comment as it doesn't look like any sort of downgrade, gusts still look to be 60-70mph for a large swathe of the country. You certainly won't miss it and we still have over 48 hours of models to go before the event.
  2. Really tired of the Met Office bashing ref the non issuing of a red warning. you have all got access to the matrix and all the information on how they issue warnings, go tske a read and maybe you will understand a bit more. its all down to impact, timings and population of said area. The area is prone to this type of weather and therefore are resilient towards it, the concerned area is sparsely populated, it happened at night when most would be at home tucked up in bed and not when hundreds were trying to commute to work. Amber covers structural damage, utility disruption and travel disruption so no more than an amber wss justified period. If red warnings are issued willy nilly then what happens when the next stronger storm approches? It becomes difficult for the Met to quantify the seriousness if red warnings are issued for every disruptive event. Wednesday's storm will also get an amber warning although weaker than last weeks storm in the north but thats because it will impact more densely populated areas and parts of the country less resilient to strong winds. Hope that helps.
  3. These long range forecasts are going well!?! I don't pretend to be an expert but why do people pretend to know what the weather will be doing 10+ days away let alone weather paterns over a month away. all these LRF's that were predicting a "cold hearted" winter have slowly had to backtracked, all the so called background drivers have failed to materialise, strat warming is a failure and so is most of the othe so called drivers that people use for these hocus pocus forcasts. only the Met office has any success with there LRF but even that would of been more luck than judgment, there 10-15 day forecast is the furthest I'll look ahead and has proved useful, anything else isn't worth the paper it's printed on and belongs on the front page of the Daily Express.
  4. Gets my vote for post of the week, im not surprised you get shot down for telling everyone to ignore the models in a model related chat forum.......go figure!
  5. Just had the Dorset storm pass overhead, heavy rain but the storm must be high level as no lightning observed and constant thunder although barely audible over the tv with the window open, nice to hear though.
  6. That was storm number 5 today, little more activity it that one with bright lightning and loud gun shot thunder with very heavy rain, roads are like rivers now. The sun has now broken through and we have got a bit of a break before the next one.
  7. Just had another nice storm overhead and I have seen no sun at all today so I don't think the lack of sun is going to be that much of an issue. The only annoying thing is that due to the low level murk and the 3 storms this morning being very high based and even though there passing overhead very little lightning was seen and I wouldn't exactly call the thunder loud at all but there storms never the less so shouldn't moan to much lol :-) Edit: sun has just come out so hopefully will aid any storms coming over the channel.
  8. nice storm here at the moment with deep loud rumbles of thunder, lots more lining up in the channel and heading in this general direction.
  9. Just getting our 3rd storm of the day now, Very heavy convective rain and bright flashes every 15 seconds or so with almost constant thunder rumbling. a good start and looking forward to todays prospects.
  10. First very faint rumble heard, it's flashing a lot more often than the live map is indicating, I'm seeing near constant flashes on the horizon.
  11. I'm all but 10 miles in land north of Bournemouth and starting to see flickers of light on the horizon, strike alert has also just sprang into life signaling 24-40 mile proximity. Comon baby........
  12. Front just clearing now, blue sky and warm sunshine at the moment, temp dropped through the morning from 20c to now 15c. Storms broke out just to the East of me unfortunately but its looking good for you guys in East and Midlands, enjoy :-)
  13. Nice thunderstorm just past over, first slow moving, overhead storm this year :-) Got a couple of very close rumbles on cam that I'll post later if i can and a couple of nice pics of the storm moving away. Anymore today is just a bonus, well chuffed.
  14. Do you have cloud cover? Sun has been out for 10mins here and warming nicely! I could say it was 25c here but what would be the point of that lol.
  15. I'm down on the Dorset coast and It's feeling very humid and muggy, It's around 20c, cloud cover with the occasional break, clouds moving in some strange directions. All in all its feeling right, just need the sparks now.
  16. I'm only about 20 mins from Weymouth so I'll be keeping a close eye on things tonight and heading to the coast if anything starts traveling over the channel, been so long since I last seen an import coming across the channel . I think it's going to be 50:50 if anything kicks off down here thought.
  17. Google Ringstead bay mate, its not as far as Portland but great views of the channel if its all further West, then you also got the option of Abbotsbury hill if its on a more Westerly track.
  18. Lol maybe I should try taking her out for a meal instead of storm chasing :-p I think we do stand a good chance down on the Dorset coast early hours of Thursday but still a lot to play for and lots can change.
  19. Hi Dave, I'll be out and about Wed/Thur. Think I'll be heading towards Ringstead bay over looking Weymouth bay and great views over Portland, maybe further West if needs be. I'm sure you and the new girlfriend can keep ya selves occupied if there are no stormed :-p I've taken the girlfriend out 3 times so far this year and had nothing! She's not so keen on coming anymore and can't understand why I drive for miles all day to watch heavy rain showers, or we end up driving 3 hours east only to get a call saying there is a massive storm over our village lol. Good luck.
  20. yes can confirm its still lightning over north Dorset, rain not that heavy but big drops and the sky lighing up about every 5mins.
  21. Still snowing here in North Dorset, some heavier bursts now and again with nice big flakes, good white covering over everything. Temp of 0.3c and slowly falling, DP 0.0c
