  1. Frost number 5 this morning with a low of -1.8
  2. Hit -5.4 here early this morning for the 4th air frost of Autumn. Coldest November temp recorded here was -10.9 on 28th 2010 and that was with 20 inches of snow on the ground!
  3. Utter garbage as usual. Same article as every year since 2010. The argument "we will get it right one day" shouldn't come into journalism when all it does is worry pensioners.
  4. http://www.solarham.net/farside.htm this should help
  5. Should be allowed to temporarily ban high sided vehicles during worst conditions
  6. Starting to pick up here in Northumberland but I believe tomorrow is worse for us
  7. Here in the North Pennines of Northumberland is currently calm, drizzling with yellow sky. Garden solar lights are on as well! Top gusts forecast here are 68-72 tomorrow morning.
  8. This time next month we will be wondering what all the fuss was about. London will of had 9inches on the ground for 2 weeks and the north and Scotland will of been under 3 feet since early Feb. Plus the forecast into March will be for more of the same. Oh how we will mock those who said winter was over in the last week of Jan! And to cap it all the Bbc will announce their new weather data provider as Exacta weather!
  9. Here according to the Meto we average over 60 days of snow falling a year. Between Dec 09-april-10 it fell here in 86 days. Then there was this in 2010 that delivered nearly 3 foot in 48 hours
  10. Plus the next solar cycle (25) could be delayed by 2-5 years meaning a weak sun for a prolonged period http://earthsky.org/space/frank-hill-sees-future-sunspot-drop-no-new-ice-age
  11. Well next winter we will probably be looking at a La Niña, easterly QBO and a weaker sun which would surely mean a colder winter
  12. March 2013 changed my option of cold spells in spring. Snow stuck around for weeks and the big piles of snow in the local tesco car park didn't melt till May
  13. March 2013 was one of the best cold spells here with deep snow of around 30 inches at deepist and freezing temps well into April
  14. What's the betting high pressure moves over scandi/Greenland mid March and sends us northerlys until mid May before the jet crashes back in to spoil early summer then back to Scandinavia high for July-August!
  15. December 2010 we had over 2 foot in a 36 hour period at one point here and totalled 41 inches in the end. Although it's high in the north here proves it can happen here as in north Northumberland had similar at around 200feet
  16. Allenheads and just about the snowiest place in England around our area. The north pennine "ski resorts" will be busy tomorrow!
  17. Been on and off here since 4 in south west Northumberland near Cumbria/Durham/Northumberland border. Moderate snow now. Oddly met office forecast cloudy but no snow
  18. Had light snow here on and off since around 4 with the heavier stuff looking on course. I'd say west of a68 100% it will snow, west of a1 to a68 70%, east of a1 30% but chances increase further south. Just my thinking!
  19. Another ice day here now with a max of -1.1 today and if the met local forecast is to be believed the next day it gets above -1 here will be Thursday. Will we hit minus double figures tonight?
  20. Not all about height but also being far enough from the coast. I remember going to a Xmas party in town a few years back. Was over a foot of snow at home. About 8 inches at Hexham station which is low down. The same all the way along the valley until Blaydon about 2 inches then in Newcastle nothing at all just wet. Newcastle station is certainly higher than Blaydon so must be more at play than just height asl!
  21. Not many houses to choose from at that height in the uk if any. Try Tow Law, Consett, Slaley, Allendale! Temp peaked today at -0.3 just after 2 so ice day confirmed here I'd say.
  22. A pic of the roads standard around here this morning. Low of -6.2 over night and now -3.2. Ice day ahead i think
  23. Currently -1.2 dp -3.04 and snowing moderately right now here
  24. Well the met office online forecast for my location having snow for 25 hours starting at 3pm today with no lower than 70% chance. Will probably change by lunch time but if not will be very interesting.
