  1. Temp topped out at 0.5 here today so just missed out on ice day. Frost never lifted all day though. More of the same tomorrow please
  2. Been colder here since Thursday with snow falling every day since apart from today. Not been above 3 since last Wednesday. Was -3.8 overnight and currently 0.2. The gfs 18z put a min of -15 here for next weekend so could be first temp below -9.9 since 2013. Personally I expect the cold to intensify after next weekend under the high so maybe a -20 somewhere
  3. My feeling after model watching for years is that the models will chop and change every run up to and after the cold starts with so many variables at play. Up to and during the 2010 cold spell the models were always looking for the atlantic break through and were pushed back numerous times. Get the cold here first then look for snow and how long it will all last. With warmer seas around the UK and cold uppers lake/sea effect snow dumpings could well happen. Also look out for K>4 red geomagnetic storm activity as this can beef up ppn. Also with regards to met update they will never come on board until >95% certain or they will be shot down in the media.
  4. In his latest video no mention of Gfs or ukmo. Just showes the ecm from earlier and the the cfs which showed gh and euro low for the rest of Jan.
  5. Yes but he was using earlier charts not the latest stonking ecm
  6. I know to take these forecasts with a massive shovel of salt but in 72 hours away so can't be that fare out
  7. All positive I'd say. Pre 2010 updates said similar. Will know better by the weekend.
  8. From the met update: There is now an increased signal for a brief much colder spell around the middle of next week with widespread overnight frosts. There is likely to be a mixture of sunshine and showers, with the showers falling as sleet or snow to low levels in the north, and perhaps also in the south. Towards the end of next week unsettled and sometimes windy weather with mainly westerly winds may become re-established, although there is some uncertainty. Uncertainty from the met on a return to westerlys can only be a good thing!
  9. Low last night of -2.7 Well nearly 4pm now and temp still hasn't hit 0. Max so far of -0.3. Currently -0.4 5-6 inches of snow still on the ground fr yesterdays suprise fall but been a lot of misty spells today
  10. 5-6 inch covering now here after heavy snow from 11-4. Met forecast was 4 with heavy rain but in reality was -1 and heavy snow!
  11. On the 8am update the meto have taken us from heavy snow at 9 and 10 on the 7am update to cloudy but dry now for 9&10. Nowing their updates by 9 will be back to heavy snow! Instead of spending millions on super computers maybe they could just toss a coin as it will be just as acurate!
  12. Around 3 inches here right now and currently moderate snow. North Sea looking decent at the min to the nne. Plus meto forecast has heavy snow here at 9&10. I know they are usually useless but surely at this range they can't be far wrong?
  13. 50/50 is the best bet. Unofficial I recorded -29.4 at redesdale camp in December 2010 with 5 foot of even snow cover. It was so cold the diesel froze in the tanks of loads of army vehicles left out overnight on the otterburn range. I know cause I helped defrost them with hot coals in baking trays while I was contracting for them for 3 mornings in a row. If I recorded that at 1590 feet there what was the temp at 2800 feet above us on the tops!
  14. Met office forecast for my location has got heavy snow from 11am tomorrow till 12 pm Sunday! This far out can they be so wrong? If right we may need the ladders!
  15. More snow showers here today on and off. Nothing really heavy but a fresh dusting over night. Temp average here for month to date is a chilly 3.8 day and -0.6 night. Add the recent wind chill of -1 to -10 Certainly not mild! Plus an ice day forecast here for Saturday ! http://m.webcams.travel/webcam/1322989605-Weather-Spartylea,-Northumberland-Allenheads
  16. 11 frosts so far here and a good dusting of snow on ground so already well ahead of last year!
  17. Had 11 hard frosts now and a min temp of -4.6 so far and currently a dusting of maybe 2 inches of snow so far better than last year already. Last winter only had 6 hard frosts here!
  18. Just read the book Cold sun by John Casey. Some convincing evidence that we are heading into a climate like the Dalton minimum. Plenty of top climate and solar scientists agree and even NASA forecasting sun cycle 25 to be a grand solar minimum. The book was released in 2011 and the signs he mentioned in the book have happened. Anyone else with any thoughts regarding this?
  19. Id say its got to be somewhere in the vale of york like topcliff or maybe houghall. As for Redesdale camp I grew up a mile away and its around 1000 feet and very exposed to northerly winds so definatly not low ground but also cold and snowy.
  20. Well madden and corbyn going for widespread snow on Christmas eve. Mild and wet it is then.
  21. neither was 1946/7Christmas day chart for 1946 below not too different from this years setup.
