Heat?   No sign here.   Winter clothes still.   It's like back end tonight.  Howling blustery wind and some rain.  13.3C.

Like back end alright, saying this week it was similar to October, been for a walk on the beach, wasn’t cold but the overcast drizzle ridden, overcast sky and a strong breeze constantly, had a fleece on and was too warm, took it off and goose bumps, this is July

People are going to suffer next week if anything like that comes off. Not just us but our pets too. I don’t see anything good about some of these temperatures being shown.

Some parts of the country could find themselves in major health emergency territory.

I have a black Labrador she hates the heat, at least we have a nice brown sea to cool off in I suppose

Last winter a number of frontal features missed Cumbria for some reason.. plenty were drawn into the south of the region as the cold blocks held to the north. There has been a tendency for low pressure systems to move in from the SW but come unstuck and head back south or south east missing Lancashire and Cumbria.

Best snowy frontal attacks for Cumbria is the classic stalling front with cold SE air ahead.. not had many of these. A good example 5 Feb 96.

Yes this was a one off, this was ridiculous for the fylde, better than 2010 but didn’t last too long

25th February 1989, Friday evening. Really chilly and it was raining but you could see it getting sleetier and sleetier then it started snowed heavily enough to give a covering as it gone dark which lasted into the next morning

and it happened almost 4 weeks later. Started off as rain but got sleetier and sleetier turned to snow and there was a covering which lasted into the next morning.

1st March 1995 that heralded the cold zonality. It was snowing at Liverpool because you could see the snow falling during This Morning with Richard and Judy and yet it was raining where I was. Then suddenly a burst of very fine ice pellets followed almost instantly by snow falling and trying to stick. Amazing, it was a very sharp transistion.

I was thinking of a March 1995 event during the morning, this must have been it

    It does.

largest accumulation of snow I’ve seen since 2013 was 12 cm in Crosby on 08/03/18 from an epic rain to snow event.

I had a few cm from this but think it was during the night of the 1st, didn’t last long though before it melted I remember expecting it to stay like in December 2010, suppose later on in the season had an influence, even though it was a bitter airstream

It’s funny because I can recall quite a lot of rain to snow events here.

    03/01/8, 05/1/10, 16/12/10, 16/12/11, 25/01/13, 26/12/14, 29/01/15, 30/01/15, 15/12/17,08/03/18 (my favourite), 02/01/21, 20/01/21 (storm Christoph), 23/01/21.

all of these started as 100% rain and turn to 100% snow and gave accumulations. All except the last 3 were recorded in Crosby. I think I forgotten a few and some of them I can’t put a date to

I can’t remember anything in recent years that gave anything more than an icing except jan ‘09 December’10, Jan 13, and the beast in ‘18, all these came on an easterly or a greenie, that’s for my location anyway, old style set ups were the best for here, but depends on your location as different set ups benefit different areas, if this makes sense Chris sorry

Yes, this is one thing that I remember being quite common growing up in the 90s that barely seems to happen anymore. Frosty periods followed by a relatively hefty fall of snow, followed by rain. You could get some pretty rough blizzard like conditions for a few hours. Can’t remember the last time it happened.

Rain to snow I had never seen i don’t think until a couple in our brief little 2009-2013 ‘mini mini ice age’.

Different weather set ups now whereas we don’t get that type of snow event any more, cold highs
