Quite an intense tiny shower been on the radar last few frames between IOM and Cumbria, zoomed in there’s a tiny pink speck, so is this saying that the more intense the shower there’s more likely to be a bit of snow in them?

Starting to feel bitter now in the wind, showers becoming more frequent and wintry, plenty of ice in these now

I'm in south shore near the airport, been flurries most of the morning, we are just too far west for the showers to keep their intensity, we need a good disturbance in the flow to get anything like on tuesday morning

I remember end of January last year a bitter surface flow, never been as cold working outdoors ever, yet the uppers were above freezing, I take it next week will be even colder in the wind?

still another 4 or so runs yet to shift about, plus it may come in earlier/later than forecast so could have an impact on the position, it may not follow the models, it could make it's own mind up where it wants to be, also wasn't the temperatures down south too warm?

Knowing the luck of this region even if a polar low was to form it would still be rain!

Woken by loud thunderclap at about 12.20am. Not sure why the thunder was so loud and seemed to be drawn out.

Let's see if any of these showers over Irish sea can hold together, see what happens anyway.

Don't ever give me an easterly ever again, got absolutely Jack!
M6 seemed to be the problem, but the other side of the M6 back the other way if you get me,
think some inland did ok, but for the coast we really need a greenie block with a very cold slack wavy northerly

Showers now making their way towards the region from the east

Yes, I remember this well. Best snowfall I have seen on an easterly. Really heavy snow showers spilled across the Pennines and it was more like prolonged snow. I have seen at least a little bit of snow on most easterlies that I can remember. Even today, I have seen snow falling.
Great stuff, you don't see forecasts like that very often, 96 was a good year for snow for the North West, there was this, the feb event and another snow event in the November if I remember correctly!

Seem to remember a decent easterly in Jan 1996? delivered quite a lot of snow here, so more eastern parts of the region must have done well, must have been in the form of prolonged showers? Weather history have you any information on this?
