  1. Emerged from my house at 5:55am this morning expecting the ice that had formed on the car window at 8pm last night to be even thicker. Was surprised to see it had disappeared and temp had risen.
  2. That's great thanks Nick, and yep, apologies for the off topic question
  3. Just wondered if there is a website that has a list of UK daily weather records. eg, warmest October 27th, wettest November 5th etc? I've tried to find something on the Met Office but possibly looking in the wrong areas
  4. Not many times I've been able to head out in late October without any need for a jacket or coat. Beautiful day in Surrey, feels more like late April.
  5. Goodness me it's dark over west London as I head out on the train, incredible stuff
  6. Belting it down here in Surrey!! Cracks of thunder too. Saw it coming and managed to get the lawn mown just in time. So much for a day off in the garden
  7. Yep, despite this apparent change, next week temps still look pleasant for the time of year, above average for southern England according to GFS
  8. What a gorgeous early evening, sat in Cavendish Square in Central London and the sun is still warm. Lovely summer conditions
  9. The GFS 06z run retains the high pressure early next week with temps in the south in the mid twentiesLow pressure does make an appearance from the North West later in the week, still a while away obviously
  10. What creates the orange sky, can't purely be the sun setting to the west?
  11. Some impressive Cumulonimbus developing to the east of us here in Surrey. Something's brewing
  12. Jesus! Those winds are incredible, having slept through the 87 event I'm not sure I've seen trees struggling to stay upright. Amazing to see clouds glowing orange with lightning strikes here in Westergate, West Sussex. Stay safe all
  13. Night all, wife and I going to get some shut eye before Noah wakes for his feed in the early hrs. I'll be taking a look what's going on then. Sleep well, and for those doing all nighters, enjoy the ride!
  14. We actually drove east and visited Climping beach. Would certainly be interesting to be there now. A wild night out there, just took the dog out to do her business and not a car or person to be seen
  15. I'm staying at my mother's near Chichester. Took a walk at the beach this afternoon and the wind was incredible already! It's going to be an interesting night, hope you've all got the candles ready
  16. Farewell summer, you certainly were fab, certainly an improvement on the last six. Please make sure you return next June
  17. This from the Telegraph, echoes some of the thoughts for the next week or so posted in here. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/10264990/Enjoy-the-last-of-the-summer-weather-on-Bank-Holiday-Monday.html also interested to read this: "Met Office figures show the UK average temperature for June, July and August so far is 15.1C (59.2F). This would make it one of the 10th hottest summers on record. Even if summer’s average temperature unexpectedly eases to 14.8C (58.6F), it would still be the 14th hottest on record, and the hottest since the 15.6C (60.1F) in 2006 – the hottest summer ever."
  18. I'd agree, that's what makes this forum so interesting, there's a real mixture of weather fans with totally different preferences (I love cold snowy conditions in winter and love heatwaves in summer) but I think Scorcher has a point re. Matt's comments, throughout the summer I can't recall seeing him tweeting with excitement about high pressure, he does seem to prefer cyclonic conditions. Anyway, all good fun this model watching.
  19. Yep, always baffles me. I can understand that some people may find temps in excess of 30oc too much for a number of reasons, notably health. But seeking the sort of dross that the South East experienced yesterday in the summer months does seem odd. Anyway, I'm just glad that I've got three days off starting tomorrow and the forecast is looking good for the south. As far as next weekend is concerned it looks like it's still all to play for.
  20. Morning all, I see that Matt Hugo is getting very excited on twitter about prospects of a "possible cool/unsettled NW'ly next wkend" He appears to be siding with everything but the GFS which still looks good for the south of the UK
  21. Just been in twitter contact with Simon King, 5-Live's met forecaster, he says: "signs that big high might well persist beyond the weekend too"
  22. Does Matt Hugo ever tweet about prospects of sunny and warm weather approaching, I've only ever seen him tweet about the potential of low pressure having an influence? It certainly doesn't look too bad for next week in this neck of the woods, compared to last summer this August weather is certainly an improvement even if conditions are average at best at the moment.
  23. BBC weather just tweeted 33.7 Celsius reached at Heathrow Airport. Hottest August day since 2003
