I think it's a false alarm. Nothing else is pointing towards any current activity. As you suggest 875 could possibly be the one to watch though.

Really far too early to say. It's got a beta-gamma-delta magnetic field which if erupts big time will produce x-class flares. Ideal, usually, for this latitude..

Google for spaceweather websites, there's loads... :D

This one is still rotating towards Earth so plenty of time for it to develop and produce some nice big flares. :) (or decay :D )

Actually suprised that there is any significant sun spots at all since the sun is at its peak of low activity..

Ah - but as kar and others will tell you (and told me!) we never know when the peak of the minimum is - until it has happened and we can look back...

Whooohooo! Hopefully we'll get a good blast our way soon!

Biggest flare for months recently occured

M 7.9 from 0876...(which now has a twisted field)

0875 looks like dying a death sooner than we think (field strength has weakened)

0876 isn't yet Earth facing (will be close enough soon), and it's growing(as of this post time) !

From spaceweather.com. Earth is inside a weak solar wind stream flowing from a coronal hole. The interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) near Earth tipped south, opening a crack in Earth's magnetic field.

G1 Geomagnetic storm in progress. KP index is 5.

No chance of sightings for me this far South and plenty of cloud cover right now.

That'll be a smoothed (average) figure..

If you've got a calculator at the ready, you can work out the last few months too!!

http://www.wm7d.net/hamradio/solar/solar_values.html

April was a busy month considering the minimum is a) with us or b ) upon us

Look out for the northern lights tonight.

BBC local weather forecast said increased chance of seeing it tonight in northern england.

Also got a red alert e-mail from http://www.dcs.lancs.ac.uk/iono/aurorawatch/.

Anyone see anything yet?

This webcam is a good place to see the northern lights, just waiting for it to get darker :whistling:

Seems like nothings happening. :whistling:

Just normal blackness here and the webcams which are usually good are showing nothing in the way of colours

Well, off to bed, I waited up for nothing :)

Looking at yesterdays readings it looks like it was a small (couple of hours) event that had ended before it got dark!!! Aint it always the way eh? be it meteors or Aurora's you just end up with a late night!!!

They've given a 'heads up' on a CME heading our way, may be worth checking the readings after dark tonight (or looking North I guess!!!).

Worth a heads-up today perhaps? KP5 atm. I like it when it's red... ;)

For the space weather folks, currently a minor storm under way. KP reached 5 earlier, but probably nothing for the UK i suspect..

...just to keep the topic/thread up to date, Kar..you've no idea how many times i check this thread, btw :whistling:
